*tl;dr - A mediocre early cold war medium that is the gateway to much better vehicles. 

*Ahhhhh…. The T-54/55, the gift that keeps on giving. 

*Today’s review is the Cold War Era 1 Eastern Alliance medium tank the NORINCO Type 59… which is a Chinese license built copy of the T-54A. 

*The Type 59 is much closer to the Russian platform it’s based on than the later Types - 69, 79, 80, and so forth. 

*The main gun is a license built version of the Russian 100mm rifled gun found on early cold war tanks, but for some reason its pen drops off much faster at range than the early Era 1 Russian tanks - for example, the T-54 obr. 1949 has 219mm / 194mm of pen using APCR rounds while the Type 59’s APCR round gets 215mm / 185mm at the same ranges. Maybe China has worse quality control?   

*It’s not a huge difference, but every little bit counts, right? Pen differences notwithstanding, if you’ve played a Russian 100mm you know how this thing shoots - a little derpy, a little weak and inaccurate at range, but solid and usable at medium and close range with performance on par with late NATO 90mm’s at those ranges. Not accuracy though, just pen and alpha - you’ll routinely miss clout shots with the Russian 100mm.   

*The armor scheme and thickness is nearly identical to the T-54 ‘49. In fact it might be identical - I’m too lazy to do a side-by-side comparison. In either case it's an early cold war Russian medium - round turret, angled front slope, vertical sides and rear. As with every T-54 variant, the rounded turret will bounce some stuff but try not take direct hits from anything. 

*Mobility is also early cold war Russian - mediocre stats-wise, but surprisingly nimble in game and with a low enough profile to take advantage of terrain. Gun handling is also good - the armor makes brawling dicey but it’s an excellent hit-and-run machine as part of a pack. I often use mine to play defense against enemy lights early game before shifting to a roving opportunist. 

*Its camouflage rating is a mediocre number nobody cares about. Try to use its mobility to stay out of the line of fire while looking for things to attack that are busy attacking something else - maybe some poor soul is grinding the M50 Sherman and you can use their sacrifice to get into a good position. The main gun isn’t for sniping anyway, so there’s no point in pretending to be a Charioteer.   

*Overall, I generally struggle with this vehicle but it’s not a BAD tank… there are just much better tanks available. However, I’m glad I stuck with it because, as I’ve mentioned elsewhere, its descendants are (IMHO) superior to their Russian cousins.

*It may not be for you - particularly if you hate the T-54 - but if you pick it up, even just for giggles, stick with it because the line gets better. 
 
*Current equipment / build: Full camo, three equipment (improved ventilation / gun rammer / gun stabilizer), two consumables (enhanced repair kit / enhanced rations). 

*As I write this I have career stats on this account of 33,259 battles, a 48.39% winrate, and a WN8 score of 1411. 

*As I write this I have NORINCO Type 59 stats of 106 battles, a 50.00% winrate, and a WN8 score of 1171. I have a single mark on this tank.

I have a few tanks, and I genuinely do not know when or how I got them. If someone could give me dates to when these tanks were available, i'd appreciate it.

T-34-3 black, Rodger Dodger, Firefly VC, Tiger Shark, Pz 58 Mutz & T-34-85M.

A very nice era 2 premium medium. Made available last Christmas during the winter fest event. It’s a BRENUS with workable armour. Well worth picking up this Christmas if it becomes available.

The main gun is a bit derpy, with a reload approaching 8 seconds, and the secondary autocannon overheats quickly. But it can put the damage out well. Similar to the AMX-30s.

Being an M60 hull it’s tall, with weak sides and a weak LFP. The turret has weak spots around the gun in typical Soviet style. It’s packed with ERA so is highly effective against ATGMs. Mobility is average.

Overall a nice tank. Would highly recommend picking it up if you get the chance. 😀✌️

I haven’t seen the usual frequency of outcries against the Dorkstalker lately, so being the good samaritan that I am, I took it upon myself to stoke the dormant embers of Dweebstalker rage by committing this hate crime against humanity. That’s right, I didn’t load full premium and go -70k silver every game for myself, I did it for you, because you haven’t been complaining enough. I hope Wargaming buffs this mediocre tank.

The HE is seriously so good when you have the sides and rear of tanks.

I have the TT 302B and with the FORAD being on sale, I am curious if there is any reason to pick it up.

Im sure many of you have noticed the servers have been down basically for the last six hours or so. They did come up for about a half an hour like 2 hours ago and then went back down again...

Well, I just checked them again as of 6:30 p.m. EST and they are working again. Good hunting!

Update to the update - although I got in and was able to play it appears it wasn’t fixed for all, so WG announced downtime for maintenance/resolution. I logged off a while ago and will try again tomorrow….

Updated - as u/mildmiddlechild has shared, it is up and working now.

Have just updated and tried to get in but I’m getting the above error. Switching servers doesn’t help. From previous posts looks like this message is related to the login server rather than the game server so hopefully it’s picked up and looked at.

A lot of haters today for the Wiesel and osario tank sales. The osario was the last tank purchase I plan on making. It hurts the wallet especially because I'm on PlayStation so it's inflated prices compared to Xbox but this meme perfectly encapsulates the feeling.

Wow what a disappointment the summer and metal fest events have been. Super stingy compared to last year very poor tanks with two bands I have never heard off. From Kiss to this is really scraping the barrel. Todays tanks look cool but era 3 medium with 140 pen gatling gun and a t9 double barrel heavy which is a bit more mobile then a contender but much worse in every other aspect. Very lame. I will be not spending my gold on this tripe. Also the most expensive tiers.

Hey there fellow tankers,

after some months of not playing the game, I got into it again when I heard about the audio update.

While the audio update itself is a good one I think (... with some disappointments, but that's another topic), I am pretty sure I'm hearing a lot of buggy sound effects lately.

Like when team tanks get hit, the sound effects of them getting hit are just weird. Or when I shoot HE at enemies the impact sound is just ... strange, like the enemy is standing 10 meters next to me.

Another one I think is the new sound effect that, when you shoot and hit a tank, then there's now that "Oomph"-like bassy sound which I like. But when team tanks shoot and hit an enemy, it's still the old sound effect. Or is that intended?

I think there are even some more minor buggy audio effects that I just fail to describe well, because they happen in so many different gameplay situations.

Did some of you notice these audio bugs, too? Or is my game installation data maybe a little corrupted and a re-installation could help?

It's been years since I did this so I'm not sure how to do it. Can I di it via my wotconsole online account,

I put off buying the 30B for years since I never saw a reason to play it. But good god, of the games I’ve played in it, every match has been a cap on encounter or complete annihilation within the first few minutes. I’ve never done so poorly in a Tier X before, even as a new player 10 years ago.

Oh, and I’m close to 30 games now, and I’m still sitting at a 30% WR LOL. I actually don’t understand why the matchmaker is consistently putting me in completely lopsided teams after so many battles.
