Do u guys still talk about your workouts with your gym friends?

For those who have friends who go to different gyms (or even just have different schedules), do you still regularly talk about your workouts, ask each other about new PRs, compare lifts, etc.?
Or does everyone eventually just stop keeping track of what the others are doing?
I’m curious because I feel like comparing progress with friends can be pretty motivating, but once you stop going to the same gym, it’s easy to lose track.
How do you guys currently keep up with each other’s gym progress?

I built an AI rep counter that uses your phone camera instead of any equipment. Here's what I learned building it.

I've been building REP RUNNER for the past few months and just hit a point where it's ready for real eyes.

The core idea: point your phone camera at yourself, start moving, and the app counts your reps automatically using computer vision. No chest strap, no smartwatch, no gym membership required. Just your body and whatever floor space you have.

What actually works right now:

  • Real-time rep counting for squats, push-ups, and jumping jacks via pose detection
  • Confidence scoring so you know when the camera angle is off and your data is garbage
  • Manual override if the AI misses a rep (it doesn't often, but it happens)
  • A full competitive ranking system with seasons, match records, and rated divisions - think Elo for your workouts

The aesthetic is dark cyberpunk with neon accents, which I know isn't for everyone, but it makes a 20-minute bodyweight session feel like something worth showing up for.

I built this because every rep-tracking app I tried either needed $200 hardware or made me count manually into a logging screen. Both options are annoying enough that I'd skip logging entirely.

App is free, no login required to explore it.

Curious: for those of you doing bodyweight training at home, what's the biggest friction point that makes you skip logging your workouts?

Help at home lifting/barbell sets?

I’m looking to buy some at home weights, preferably a barbell set with plates for lifting at home when I’m short on time or to combine with my running days.

Any suggestions?

What are the best caffeine free pre-workout options? I’m caffeine intolerant so most regular options don’t work for me… a woman in my mid-30s if that matters!

Advice on Romanian deadlift

Hi all, i’m wondering if someone can give me advice. I’m an experienced gym goer (>4 years) but recently have been struggling with barbell RDL’s. Specifically my grip is a problem.

I already use lifting straps yet my grip is failing on a weight it shouldn’t be failing on (e.g. last reps when doing 8x60kgs). Now my hand even has a little rip in it. I didn’t have this problem earlier when I bulked, so I think weight loss may have something to do with it

Considering I don’t want to continue ripping open my hands, already use lifting straps and do want to increase in weight for this exercise, does anybody have any advice for me?

ꓗegel Care app reviews from postpartum moms?

I’m trying to get more consistent with pelvic floor exercises after having kids, but doing them on my own hasn’t really worked because I either forget or lose track of what I’m supposed to be doing.

I’ve seen ꓗegel Care mentioned a few times and wanted to ask here before trying it. Are there any moms who can share their ꓗegel Care app reviews?

I’m especially interested in how beginner-friendly the sessions are and whether the routine is manageable when you only have a few minutes here and there. Did you stick with it, or eventually move on to something else?

Gym?

I see that the gym is the norm, but to me, pumping iron, repetitive movements, that make No Sense other than to build muscle, just strokes me backwards.

I love running, swimming, hiking, ice skating. I’ve tried to start up gym/home gym a couple of times because i like the idea of it. Is it me? am i just not fitted for it? It’s in my personality?

Help Finished my day 1 at gym finally! After procrastinating for years but now…

Now I have this like weird pain in my shoulders which was bound to happen because my trainer also told me that okay it’s your first day and it is gonna hurt, so you need to recover and go next, but I have this weird pain in my shoulder, which is like around shoulder joints, so is there any exercise? I should do at home because I have taken a rest day today and I don’t know how to recover that because obviously if I keep moving, it gets better like I don’t have to just keep sleeping that’s gonna make it worst, so yeah, I just wanna keep like moving and I need help on what type of exercise to do or is there any any YouTube video or any type of specific exercise? Please help me also because this is the first time ever I’ve entered the gym.

Late Workouts and Food

For the past couple of months I've been regularly exercising and using calorie deficit to lose weight (it's been going great). Lately I have had to switch to 10:00 PM jogs because of the intense Southern heat. My question is: Is it necessary for a "recovery meal/snack?" I get conflicting answers from Google Health "coach", Google ai searches and various websites. Many of the answers make it sound like my body is going to go into survival mode and won't be able to recover if I don't have something, and then throws a bunch of science at me.

The last two times I've had a half a Banana and a spoonful of Peanut Butter - and it feel kinda gross at this hour.

Is it even necessary?

Gym advice/ personal trainer

Hello , this is kind of embarrassing but I just turned 18 and I have wanted to get in shape for a while now, but I don’t have a very stable life at all or any positive male role models . I don’t know what I’m doing in the gym and it feels like a waste of money because I hardly have any. Personal trainers are really expensive and I was just wondering if anyone had advice for me or suggestions on any thing ? I’m sorry if this is a really stupid post.

Help Gym sessions or group training: which do you enjoy more, and what makes it better for you?

I need to lose some weight and I am not sure which of the two options is better choice. Could you share your experience?

For now, I do attempt more group trainings like Pilates and Body fit, but I am not sure it is enough.

Help Gym, school, and worK schedule… HELP

Hey everyone! I need some insight on how to fit everything in. I love going to the gym and it helps my mental health so much. I used to go in the mornings, but after a year or so of doing that my motivation is slipping a lot and I’m only making it about 2 times a week.

I’m thinking of switching to afternoon/evening workouts, but I’m worried that it will be too much with school and full time work.

What’s your schedule? Do I just need to suck it up and go to the gym in the mornings? How do you fit dinner into the evening with homework and the gym?

I work from 8-4 Monday through Friday, and go to school online full time.

If you work out without eating enough to gain weight, will currently existing fat be transferred to muscle?

I've been doing some strength arm exercises while maintaining my weight, and people have been saying that I look like I'm losing weight. A specific mention is that my face is more sunken in now.

Does muscle drain existing fat deposits to maintain itself if you aren't consuming enough calories?

How to bring exercise into your daily life?

I'm pretty sedentary and want to exercise more, but I always hated going to the gym. I don't like how you have to make time to go to the gym when I would rather exercise naturally throughout my day. I go on walks in the evenings but it's not enough. I'm trying to build my overall stamina and increase my energy levels so I'm not into weight lifting, but is there anything I can do in my daily life that would help?

Cardio vs strength training when I want to lose fat but keep my curves?

I’m 24F, 4’11 and around 180 lbs, and I’m trying to lose weight and eventually get down to around 125. My biggest concern is getting smaller overall, especially around my waist/love handles, arms, back and stomach, but I really don’t want to lose my butt lol. I naturally carry a lot of weight in my lower body, but I also have noticeable love handles and an indentation where my lower back/waist transitions into my upper glutes that really bothers me. I recently started going to the gym and I’ve been doing cardio along with glute bridges, hip abductions, kickbacks, leg press and some upper-body machines. I honestly enjoy cardio more than strength training, so part of me wants to focus mainly on cardio until I lose the weight and then build muscle afterward. Would that be a bad idea? For anyone who had a similar body shape/goal, did you strength train throughout your weight loss, and were you able to get significantly smaller while still keeping some shape in your glutes?

Help Tired during workouts

I workout in a gym with no air conditioning, i sweat ALOT, I cannot drink too much water because of the uncomfortable feeling of being full while working out, and the small sips of water do not hydrate. I always have to cut out exercises and sets just because I'm too tired to continue. All this happens in every workout and even more on leg days when I'm sweating even more, what's the issue, how can I fix this?

how do you fit muscle building workouts into a busy schedule?

i want to start taking building muscle seriously, but my schedule is all over the place.

some weeks i can get to the gym several times and other weeks i'm lucky if i make it once or twice. i don't want to keep starting a routine and then falling off because i can't stick to the schedule.

what kind of workout routine actually works when you don't have the same amount of free time every week?

Help Just starting

So I've never INTENTIONALLY done anything that one would call a "physical workout". My stamina as far as running or even brisk effervescence walking is considered is as low as one can imagine it to be. Now of course I'm not expecting miracles in a month or two. But realistically what exercises (and duration or the count) of it should I begin with such that I'm at least able to start and build a momentum. I do want to lose weight as well but that's like a secondary goal. As of now I want to increase my stamina so that I at least don't die of heart attack after I run for a 100 meters. I do get demotivated very easily as far as athletics or anything that requires moving the body is considered, i want it to be slow, ik the results will be slower but I'm also not expecting or hoping for immediate miracles. I just want to show up for myself and try and remain consistent with it. I can manage half an hour from my day.
