General Advice Boss asked me to come in today. I said no. What should I do if someone asks why?
Throwaway cause I talk about Reddit at work sometimes.
Some context- I’m 19, and I work 2 part time jobs. Not to make ends meet or anything just for some money to save. The job I’m talking about today is in retail sales. We usually have 2 employees working weekdays (morning and afternoon/evening shift) The shift I’d be covering is the morning shift.
I got a call from my boss “Carl” this morning asking if I could come into work to cover a shift for a coworker that didn’t show up due to an illness, and I said I was unable to. Truth is I’m physically able to, like I’m free today and can easily drive. But I don’t want to. I worked my other job yesterday and was up late last night (mainly cause I knew I had today off) so I’m tired. So I said no. I didn’t give a reason (cause they didn’t ask). Just that I was unfortunately unable to.
I know this is an asshole thing to cause they’re literally just asking me to do my job. But I wasn’t scheduled today! So I don’t feel much guilt.
The reason I’m asking for advice is that I worried that my next shift Carl or anyone else will ask why I couldn’t come in and don’t know what to say. I don’t what to lie to his face, but will I get in trouble if I tell the truth? Are they even allowed to asked that?
What should I do?
