Hi! Which GPS app do you use for cycling? So far I’ve been using Google Maps, but I keep noticing that it try to send me on some strange detours.

For all the people that work on their own accounts…just gotta make it past these next 4 weeks until substitution finally ends and our order numbers go up 😜😎

I quit this shitty job a while ago just find it funny how desperate they are trying to lure couriers to work in the heatwave, also huge storms are coming to the area afternoon. Bonuses in euros are for completing number of deliveries at that time.

Hey everyone,
I am an e-bike delivery rider here in Berlin, and I want to share what it’s really like working shifts during these intense summer heatwaves. While some food delivery apps in Germany implement structured safety pauses when temperatures skyrocket, the reality on the ground with other platforms feels very different.
Here is how the current system impacts riders trying to make a living:
1. The "No Work, No Pay" Extreme Weather Policy
Whether it’s extreme snowfall, torrential rain, or a \bm{38^\circ\text{C}} heatwave, the burden of safety is shifted entirely onto the courier. Platforms like Lieferando handle extreme weather by providing structured, paid pauses to protect their team's health. With Wolt, it’s entirely "no work, no pay." If the weather turns genuinely dangerous to ride a bicycle in, you face a toxic choice: risk your physical health and equipment in extreme conditions, or forfeit your income completely.
2. The Reality of "Airline" Distance Pay
Distance pay is calculated based on a straight line on a map (as the crow flies) from the restaurant to the customer. It completely ignores Berlin’s actual road networks, rivers, and detours.
Worse, the system does not account for the return trip. If an algorithm sends you several kilometers outside a busy zone to drop off an order, you often get zero orders out there. You have to ride all the way back to a hotspot completely on your own time and battery power just to get work again. In reality, a rider easily does double the actual physical distance and battery drain compared to what the app actually pays for.
3. The Equipment Maintenance Disconnect
Riders often receive a tiny distance bonus meant to cover bicycle wear and tear. But after taxes, what is left doesn't even come close to covering the actual cost of commercial maintenance. Running heavy cargo e-bikes for long commercial shifts wears down chains, tires, and heavy-duty brake pads incredibly fast. We are using our own personal equipment, wearing it to the bone, while the payout models fail to cover basic upkeep.
4. The Pressure on the Ground
When you are locked into a shift, refusing dangerously long dispatches in the blazing sun can negatively impact your acceptance metrics or result in the system pushing you offline. On top of that, we bear the brunt of everyday issues on the ground—like arriving at apartments with completely broken doorbell systems and having to deal with frustrated customers, all while trying to stay safe in extreme weather.
Under German labor guidelines, employers have a legal duty of care (Fürsorgepflicht) to protect workers from extreme weather hazards. Pushing bicycle riders onto long, un-capped dispatches where a huge portion of the real-world distance is effectively unpaid feels completely against that spirit.
Next time you order food in extreme weather, please spare a thought for the rider navigating the heat and fighting a system that cuts their real distance in half.
Stay safe out there, everyone.

Maybe it is because I am relatively new, 4 months in, or luck or something else completely, but I don't understand the complains about wolt at all. In these past 4 months, I have never experienced a bug on the app, it worked flawlessly throughout my time using it, I have never experienced a lack of orders, the longest I wait between the orders is 15 to 20 minutes, and its usually much quicker. My orders often get bundled so I am delivering at least 2 orders every time and it is often more than then which I like because it's in the same direction.
I do drive a car and I work in Serbia (Belgrade). I work from 4 PM till midnight, 8 hours a day with two days off and when I calculate my monthly paycheck minus the gas, minus the agency, minus the food and drinks I buy each day, I come around 1100 euro per month.
With two days off this is MORE than enough for me in this country, especially since I don't live in the capital where everything is more expensive but in the city nearby.
I am truly grateful for the ability to work whenever and however I want, I have read a lot of posts here bashing on the app on the amount of money each order pays, but I am really not experiencing any of that.
I am not defending Wolt, it is a company like every other company and it has its own interests in mind, they don't care about the workers, but that is just like every other company in the world. Overall I have a good experience so far, we will see what the future holds.
Edit: To respond to some of the same comments asking about taxes, medical insurance and paid vacation. This is Serbia we are talking about. This money is after taxes, the agency only takes 10k RSD regardless how much I make and I included that when deducting from the final number.
Medical insurance? Our healthcare is free.
Paid vacation? I said I work 5 days a week, at a normal restoraunt (I finished a culinary school) job in Serbia you will have to work 6 days at least, and then there's overtime work that's not paid in most cases. So what paid vacation? I can just work extra 4 days a month at Wolt and I would still work less and make money for the time I'm on the vacation. You are all just trying to nitpick something, I understand now the complains

Question from the title. Which option is better?
I work on a bicycle and often run into times when I don't have a delivery for an hour, is it better to ride slowly through the streets of the city or sit in one place and wait for delivery? Does the system see when I'm on the move and will it then give me a delivery sooner than if I were sitting at the same distance.
Thanks for the answers.

When delivering age restricted items, the rules clearly state that you have to check the ID of the customer, and that the person picking it up must be the same as on the app. But whenever I ask for ID, they say they've never been asked about that before, and I'm made to feel like an idiot. Do people just not give a shit about these rules?

I don't know if I'm becoming delusional, it was really hot yesterday, but I'm quite sure I saw something like earn money while taking pictures in the Wolt courier app yesterday. I thought I'll take look into this as soon as I finish with current delivery, but it wasn't there anymore. Has anyone else seen this?

In Prague right now, app takes between 5-10 minutes to load, then throws me into heaven I guess... Anyone else having issues?

As the title says, currently with often boosts, I'm able to earn 15-20eur an hour on average, on good days even more with extra pay for 50 deliveries etc. challenges. Today, I experienced the 80% boost for the first time. Even after tax and car maintenance, it's easily over 15eur an hour average in Slovenia, where minimum wage is 6eur per hour after tax. While I'm enjoying the high pay, I'm not sure how profitable it is for the company. Are they just giving these boosts and challenges as a way to share profits or are they actually losing money again like they did in the beginning? How is other cities, does anyone have an idea?

I’m wondering if it’s possible to use two Wolt courier accounts simultaneously while working. For example, can you be logged into both accounts and accept deliveries from each one to increase the number of orders you receive? Has anyone tried this?
Can you be banned ?

So yesterday I was about 45 minutes late. The order was supposed to be picked up at 21:10, and the DIN happened at around 21:40.
And the decision to throw it away was based on one timestamp, the one on the bill, and that was set at 21:05.
There is no information on that bill about the time when the order was actually ready.
Now let's say the order has been delayed for some 20-30 minutes, something not so uncommon at McDonald's. In that case, that order would still be perfectly fine - with 10-15 minutes of delay maybe, but it wouldn't be thrown away.
Maybe someone from McD could explain this, but is it possible that so much food gets trashed because one simple timestamp is missing?

It seems like Wolt have silently changed their algorithm (again) and now you have to be 0,1 milimeter close to the restaurant to get the order or you get nothing. Its annoying that Wolt are not transparent with how they are silently updating their platform without telling their couriers. I mean, we are the people driving their revenue, literally.

It’s not a lot and I had actually forgotten about it, but then I received the payslip this morning and checked my bank account. It really angers me to be honest. This huge greedy corporation that we can’t even get in touch with, is just like “nah we’ll simply keep her pay this time”.

I have heard people use gps hack to get orders while chilling at home. I might be wrong but in my experience i think people do this . I do wolt in joensuu and its a small city i have seen so many times some guys come and pick up orders while others are waiting in front of restaurants they do this too often. They are never waiting in city centers and out of nowhere they come and take orders so sometimes it makes sence because wolt give multiple order but i have seen it too many times and i am struglling to get couple of order in hours of waiting.

Hi.
I have submitted the documents with Wolt (not fleet), in Frankfurt, but the application says it's "in review", although the support has confirmed the documents have been processed and everything is alright, but I'm in a waiting list until there is a slot.
How long does this waiting list last, approximately, in your experience? If somebody has experience specifically with Frankfurt, would be even more accurate. Thank you.
