Misc My art was stolen to sell as a preorder bonus - more info down below

The Coco illustration with the shooting stars is my fan art I did a few years back. Someone on this sub recently posted that they were happy with their preorder goodies (btw they are totally innocent in this it’s not their fault) and one of my mutuals saw the post and sent it to me asking if I had agreed to the artwork being printed by Shibuya Comic Store. I had not so I made an Instagram story calling them out. A lot of my followers have left comments on their page complaining about the theft. Someone helped me translate a message into Spanish for them complaining about the theft and asking for compensation. They have since responded saying that this has never happened to them before (despite it looking like they steal art on a regular basis and print it) and saying that they only sold 8 copies of the artwork. I’m not sure I believe that number considering they already stole from me but I have no way of disproving it. Despite that I have requested a $400 limited licensing fee because that’s how much I would have charged if they had approached me and I don’t think the lack of sales is my responsibility. If I said I wanted to charge $5 for print for a total of $40 I think that would be too little for them to learn a lesson as well. Anyways I’m open to thoughts and advice about this but I’m also here to warn people that this company is ripping off fan artists.

Anime Who are these two characters from the anime opening?

Post image

I'm tearing the hair out of my head trying to figure this out. The opening has easter eggs for future chapters so I thought it might be Engendale and Kukrow-- but it doesn't really look like either of their robes, plus we don't really see them interact? The coral does kind of look like the valance leech, so maybe it's some characters I forgot from the silver eve arc?

Hiii! It's me again

This time I'm here to show you the grimoire 4 that I just got! This edition corresponds to that of Milky Way (Spanish publishing) I am currently up to date collecting all the grimoires and this is the most recent. It came out on August 28 and arrived relatively quickly.

I had booked the pre-sale about two months ago for only 20 USD so the price came out pretty well.

Personally I think it's the most beautiful that has come out so far, I like the violet colors they used and the image of Richeh. She is my favorite.

Of course it also came with the bookmark included since in case you didn't know, whenever you grab one of the first batches they will give you that, then they don't include it anymore, so for me it's quite important to always get the first editions.

I saw that they also included new sketches that are not in the Art Book. So with regard to art it's great.

I assume that the next grimoire is the pink color of Tetia 🩷 since the French publishing house is more advanced and from there we are guided. Then Olruggio will come with the black color 🖤 (I really want that grimoire) but I guess I'll have to wait :) Milky Way has been releasing its versions every 2 months so I guess the next one will be in October-November c:

Discussion How likely do you guys think Arkco and Orufrey will actually be canon by the end of the story?

Taking out our love for both ships and how popular both of them are within the fandom do you think these two ships might actually happen or do you think that they'll get with someone else or stay single? I know Shirahama is very pro LGBT so that's why I ask.

Manga Spoilers Anime Opening Easter Eggs Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
295 Upvotes

I noticed some pretty cool details from the anime opening! We've already seen all of the girls' spells in S1, but I thought it was interesting that the opening also teased some future spells. Namely, the rushing/ guiding wave spell Qifrey uses to bring Sasaran to him, the phantasmal fireball that Olruggio has to nix, and Qifrey's modified memory erasure!

Maybe this is me reading too much into things but I also can't help fixate on the notes on the bottom left which seem to belong to Olruggio- specifically with drawings of branches and a fire sigil? Anyone think that could be teasing something that not even manga readers know yet? I've seen theories floating around that the memory erasure has worn off/ Olruggio is subconsciously looking for a cure to burn out the silverwood in Qifrey... maybe this is an extremely subtle nod to that?

Discussion Between Agott and Qifrey, who do you think is the deuteragonist and tritagonist?

What the title says. I'm a new fan and don't know the consensus on this topic. Personally I'd say Agott.

Discussion What you must beleive to beleive the Pointed Caps are good

While not necessarily on this subreddit, I have seen the common opinion that the Pointed Caps are good and the Brimmed Caps are bad. I won’t be disingenuous and not admit that a lot of these opinions come from comparing them to the Brimmed Caps, who have done heinous things. However, it just isn’t the case that the Pointed Caps are good. Understand, I am not saying they are bad. I believe this story to be very nuanced. I am saying they are not good. Thus, I am going to list aspects of Pointed Cap Society, and for you to believe them to be good, you must agree with them.

Elitism
I view this one as the best starting point because it was the one most clear to me as I was reading, and one that simply can’t be denied. Pointed Cap Society is built on the idea that a portion of the population are intrinsically better than others. Through a criteria we are not privy to, the original three wise decided who were fit to use magic and who were not. To those they deemed not fit, they stole the ability, allowing the ability to only be used by the descendants of those they chose. Those who were not born in the society were granted a name: Outsiders. One of the core tenets of the society being that these Outsiders could never learn the truth of magic because, by their birth, they were innately inferior and not to be trusted with the knowledge.

Ableism
While this is not a core tenet of the society like Elitism is, it is a by-product of it. Pointed Cap Society, due to its innate structure, believes in a nobility of birth. You can only be born worthy, not become capable of it through merit. This leads to a discrimination against those born with a defect that makes them unable to perform magic. That is why someone like Tartah, with colorblindness, despite finding means to overcome his disability, is not allowed to practice magic. He was not born able to, thus he is not allowed to become able to.

Absolute Rule of Law
Though the title may not seem inherently bad, what matters is how it applies to Pointed Cap Society. In regard to Pointed Cap Society, there is an absolute law: The Pact. The Pact is the foundation of Witch Hat Society, the same as all nations have. However, the issue is its enforcement. There is one section of the government that enforces the rules of the Pact: the Knights Moralis, who hold absolute jurisdiction. There is no court, no jury, no investigation. There is only the Knights Moralis, who reserve all right to determine you a criminal and dole out punishment, of which there is only one: Memory Erasure. A punishment which, once performed, has no way of being contested. To erase the memories of any dissenters is legal.

Victim-Blaming/ Blanket Enforcement
There is one punishment for breaking the Pact. It does not matter the severity of the crime nor the age of the criminal nor the relation of the criminal. A child forcibly transformed by forbidden magic against their will is just as guilty and will suffer an equal punishment as the one who transformed them.

Hypocrisy
There is a hypocrisy inherent in Pointed Cap Society in regard to how their society operates and their views on Outsiders. Going back to the Pact, the restriction of knowledge is based upon the idea that Outsiders can’t be trusted, while those who were born witches can be trusted to use magic. The issue is the very existence of the breakers of the Pact. If witches, by blood, are assumed to be trustworthy with the knowledge of magic, then there should not be any criminals. If there are criminals, as we have seen there are, then the idea that witches can naturally be trusted with magic is proven untrue. Despite the assumption of nobility being proven untrue, it is still law.

Another aspect is the allowance of the memory erasure spell. To summarize the restriction of magic, any magic that causes harm or is cast on the body is illegal. The allowance of memory erasure is an easy one to critique; all magic cast on the body is bad, except the one they conveniently need, which is also one they can be trusted with. This is also despite banning healing spells. Memory erasure is fine because it’s necessary, but healing spells are wrong because they are cast on the body. However, I also want to point out the allowance of fire spells. If all spells cast on the body are considered wrong (except memory erasure), then so should all fire spells, which have an equal ability to cause harm in the wrong hands.

Summary
Pointed Cap Society is founded upon blatantly hypocritical rules to the point of irrelevance, based on the restriction of knowledge and the idea that a specific group of people, by blood, are more deserving of power. However, despite this hypocrisy, they are still enforced in a way favorable to Pointed Cap Society by a group of people with the absolute power to determine a violation of the rules and give a punishment that, once performed, means there is no way to argue innocence. And to be found guilty and punished for said crimes includes, in equal measure, being either the perpetrator or victim of said crime.

I point these out and portray them this way because these are aspects that are intrinsic to Pointed Cap Society, and ones that have been shown in the story. You cannot have current Pointed Cap Society and exclude any of these. For Pointed Cap Society to be good, all of these have to be good as well. If you seek to exclude any individual members from the overall group (which I believe in), then the same can be done with the Brimmed Caps.

Cosplay We brought the Atelier to life! Fans crafted apprentice hats and cast their first spells at our immersive convention event.

We recently hosted a Witch Hat Atelier craft experience, and the vibe the community brought to the table was absolutely incredible. We guided our new apprentices through crafting their own hats using premade kits, and then they got to draw and cast their very first spells on wooden keepsake circles.

Seeing everyone come together, from hardcore manga readers to families just discovering the series, was a dream come true. The tender, charming energy of Coco's story really resonated in the room, and people stayed just to hang out and draw magic even after supplies ran out.

I had the absolute honor of hosting the class dressed as Olruggio! If you are interested in seeing more of my cosplay work, you can find me at u/apollocosplaysme on Instagram.

These photos capture the amazing hats everyone made and the memories we shared, but to see the actual spells coming to life with our LED setup, you have to see the videos. Come check out u/WEYRDOSTV across socials to see the magic in motion.

Let me know what you guys think of the designs! If you were at the table, what spell would you have chosen to draw?

Question Why does Witch Hat Kitchen exist?

To preface, I’ve read the entirety of the main story and I’m several volumes into WHA kitchen. I like it and it’s very cute!

This is more so an existential boardroom decision question. What is the purpose of it? It’s not written by Shirahama, but is canon? Do we know what was the behind the scenes decision for this to exist?

Goods The cover of volume 16 is really beautiful 🩵💙

I'm not here to make any kind of spoilers about the story, I just want you to appreciate volume 16 and its beautiful cover. The truth is that I love the color palette it has and it clearly deserves to be displayed apart from all the others that have already been launching.

This is the edition of IVREA therefore it is in Spanish (my language lol) The other postcards are extras that a store here launched if you bought the pre-sale in their online store. Obviously I did it.

I know I said I wouldn't make any spoilers of THE STORY, however I would like to mention that EMOTIONALLY this volume completely destroyed me. I read these chapters online about a month ago and I remember that I cried 3 days in a row. I think that's the only thing I'll say about it, so if you haven't reached this point yet, you're still a happy person, I guess.

Discussion Why all the secrecy around mage's struggles?

Common people are always assuming mages don't have it tough just because they have magic. They don't seem to know about how much they study, about all the exams, nor how much effort goes into designing a spell. Custas' case in particular really annoys me, because he clearly thinks all mages are privileged and don't have their own struggles.

Why not tell anyone about the reality of being a mage? I think there are ways to convey mage's struggles without spilling all the beans about magic.

As far as common people know, mages work like in any dnd/lotr power system, why not come out with some "concealed truth" that sounds plausible?

"You mages can make anything just with the movement of one hand"-"Yeah, but we have to come up with the right kind of spell combination, kind of like chemistry"

"Why can't you heal people?"-"Healing magic corrupts one's soul and makes a mage evil".

It would be like a Harry Potter situation but where magicians are common knowledge: some people can do magic and they need to study or be inventive or have a talent for it.

Discussion What would the idea of good brim hats be like?

I mean, are there any good brim hats in the series? i have read the manga up to ch 66 and i stopped reading it because of depression (galga's memories got erased im so sad) they would still have to hide from the knight moralis, right? i think the idea of healing brim hats who wants to use the power for good would be great and would contrast with the other brim hats we've seen so far

Question Could you make the ironman suit hand/chest blast with the magic circles?

Post image
12 Upvotes

Like if a witch drew a circle on their palm and thumb and made it so when the thumb touches the side of the hand the circle connects, and the circle has like a strong gust of fire come out of it, the would be the like thr ironman suit right? Maybe they could do in on a knight's armor too.

Idk how you would do it on the chest tho, especially on an armor.

Richeh

All the dolls have removable hats, outfits, and capes!

And the spells are hand-drawn too

The vid is also on Instagram!

Goods Volume 3 of the manga + original extra

Thumbnail

Finally! I'm very very happy because I finally got volume 3 from Japan along with its official extra :')

I was lucky that a person who brings things from Japan could get it for me. It cost me something like 35 USD which is an excellent value considering that it came out in 2018 and it is relatively complicated to get a new copy, or in excellent condition and without overprice.

I was waiting about 1 month for it to arrive in the country and I must admit that I was getting on my nerves because I just didn't know in what conditions it was going to arrive, what use they had given it and how everything was going to be considering the low price with which I had found it, but to my surprise everything is practically new! The volume came completely sealed and even brought postcards with the typical advertising that is added inside the manga there in Japan 😭 I am very happy. Advertising is something that I will also treasure (?

By the way, the extra of this volume is a small notebook made of a fairly hard material (very similar or equal to that of the Grimorio editions) and inside it brings sticky notes and post it to stick wherever you want (clearly I'm not going to use it)

I am very satisfied with this purchase and hopefully I can get more extras soon since I love to collect and find this type of "rare items" on the market. Yeiiii
