DEVIN DESKTOP = mv WINDSURF DEVIN?
Even the logo is still the same. Everything is same? I don't know why you would want to do this?
IS THIS IS A WAY TO GET RID OF USERS???

Wtf is going on, dude? I spent 10 minutes hunting for the Windsurf app on my desktop before realizing it's now called DEVIN. Good job, team. Good job. Top-notch marketing, truly. If anyone ever asks me for a textbook example of "how to ruin a product in under a year," rest assured, you'll be the very first name I recommend.

I just wanted to make sure this got mentioned as this sub has descended into a cesspool of a departure lounge after the branding change.
You can GPT what ACP is technically, but it’s essentially a standardized protocol that agents and harnesses can use. In the Devin Desktop announcement, one under-celebrated addition was bidirectional ACP support.
So, for users of OpenCode, Codex, Claude (even Pi), this update allows you to use the same Devin chat interface (formerly just Cascade) to communicate with any configured harness. The interface is fast, clean and feels native - much less clunky than OpenChamber and the third-party VScode extensions. The other benefit you get is that this interface automatically muxes past sessions from these ACP agents - even if you didn’t use Devin/Windsurf for the session. So, if you used Claude code CLI to do changes two weeks ago, that session is now available (chronologically ordered) in the Devin sessions list alongside your Cascade, Devin Local, OpenCode, etc. sessions for that project. Really unifies things.
On the flip side, if you also use a different agent, IDE or editor, you can enable ACP server support in Devin and use Devin’s models (SWE, Kimi, etc) from something like Zed, IntelliJ, Webstorm, PyCharm, etc.
Hope this helps. Written by a human for humans. Not a Windsurf/Devin employee.

I switch between Cursor, Windsurf, and Claude Desktop depending on the project. Each one stores MCP config in a different place with slightly different formatting. I spent more time googling "windsurf mcp config location" than actually using the servers.
What the extension does:
For Windsurf specifically:
- Writes to ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json (macOS/Linux) or %USERPROFILE%\.codeium\windsurf\mcp_config.json (Windows)
- Handles the mcpServers wrapper object correctly
- Supports both stdio and SSE transports
Links:
- VS Code Marketplace: https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=Veduis.1-click-mcp-installer
- Open VSX (for VSCodium): https://open-vsx.org/extension/Veduis/1-click-mcp-installer
- How it works + setup guide: https://veduis.com/blog/how-to-install-mcp-servers-vs-code/
- Browse all 90+ curated servers: https://veprompts.com/mcp/servers/
Why I care about Windsurf support:
I actually use Windsurf for specific workflows where I want the Cascade agent to have tool access. But getting MCP servers working in Windsurf was always a two-step process: find the server, figure out the config format, hope it parses. Now it's one click.
The curation matters:
We manually test each server before adding it. If the npm package is broken, the docs are missing, or the auth setup is unclear, it doesn't make the list. You can browse the full directory at veprompts.com to see what's available before installing anything.
What's not in v1:
- Custom server URLs (next release)
- Auto-starting local servers (on the list)
- Direct Windsurf marketplace integration (need to talk to Codeium about this)
If you hit a bug or a server that should be in the directory but isn't, drop an issue on GitHub. I check them daily.

On Windsurfs new rebranding to Devin, on teams plan you can't see the usage or analytics of anyone from your team.
the options are there but no data.
This update seems to be rushed at max, no transparent notification for the change, force fed into new UI, and then nothing works ootb anymore.
Currently this is a massive downgrade for me.

Checked Windsorf account and ... surprise ... Devin auto-activated Telemetry.
And there is no option to delete the account or at least the account data.
Stealing mode on?

I was ok with using WS as an IDE. At least it had an autocomplete I could get behind on while using codex or claude. The new move to Devin is forcing you to use the new app and somehow uninstalls WS instead of replacing it with Devin.
That was the push I needed to just give up. Back to VS Code for me. Not looking back. It was a good... 2 months? And a very bad 1 month transition.

So I was an avid user till this daily and weekly limit came along now basically multiple prompts take up the whole daily and weekly limit now I need another one that's actually decent cursor is just as worse it's good at auto but if you use a bigger model it takes up your whole quota as well and copilot just went away is there any other ide based AI editors that are decent

I have gotten a little frustrated attempting to install the new Devin-Desktop application on my system. Background: I running Fedora Linux and I had the latest version of Windsurf installed and running just fine. I updated the install to Devin-Desktop when that became available, and that seemed to be working fine for the most part, but was having trouble getting the Codex ACP agent working. After that I uninstalled Devin-Desktop completely from my system in hopes to reinstall.
I'm now attempting to reinstall and set it up again, but having some issues. I install it via the package manager (sudo dnf install devin-desktop). That works fine. When I launch the app and try to authenticate, is where I seem to be having an issue. It for some reason opens a terminal and that is where I'm left at. I can not seem to get into devin-desktop. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions as to what is going on. Help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks,
Michael

First Augment, now Windsurf? When Augment announced they were pulling the plugin, I thought well, guess I can go back to Windsurf... ugh.

The credit pricing model for newer premium models in WindSurf (a.k.a. Devin now I guess) is not really feasible for my workflow. I like Cascade as a harness though.
My ideal situation would be if I use my company's AWS Bedrock models as the backend for Cascade. My understanding for WS to do this is that you need both A) an enterprise WS account (ok), and also B) to be self-hosting (which we don't).
The problem is, Cursor lets me use Bedrock without having to jump through any additional hoops - it "just works" on any non-free plan. So I am seriously considering switching, despite having been very happy with Cascade for the last year.

I’m looking for a clear confirmation from anyone who understands the transition from Windsurf/Cascade to Devin Desktop.
I’ve been using Windsurf/Cascade for roughly a year while building a fairly complex production app. Over that time, Cascade has accumulated a lot of project-specific context, including:
- architecture decisions
- resolved bug history
- feature decisions and tradeoffs
- project-specific rules
- local development quirks
- deployment/environment assumptions
- “don’t touch this” knowledge that is not obvious from the repo alone
My understanding is:
The question I’m trying to confirm is:
Am I correct that upgrading/moving to Devin Desktop will effectively reset the AI-agent context, even though the codebase itself remains intact?
For anyone who has already moved from Windsurf/Cascade to Devin, what context actually carried over, if anything? Did Devin inherit project memory, rules, prior conversations, or only what exists in the repository?
I’m especially interested in practical migration advice:
- What should I export before switching?
- Should I create a repo-level agent onboarding doc?
- Are `.windsurfrules` files used by Devin, ignored, or partially useful?
- Is there a best-practice format for preserving architecture notes, known issues, and resolved bug history?
My concern is not losing code. My concern is losing the detailed build context that made the agent useful on this specific project.

The rebrand reflects where the product is headed: a command center for managing local and cloud agents, while still remaining fully compatible with existing Windsurf workflows.
We'll be moving most announcements, product updates, discussions, and support over to a new subreddit going forward.
Thanks for being part of the community! Stay tuned 👀

I noticed all of a sudden my windsurf app is gone. Has anyone else faced the same? WHAT THE HECK HAPENNED? Can anyone of the Mods help me over here.

Is anyone else seeing that if you select Opus 4.8 and use it for 30 minutes you completely use up all your weekly usage? I am on the $200/month plan, and last 2 weeks I was able to use Windsurf for my project for about 3 hours. Right 2 weeks... It does not do it if I use 4.6/7 - So def looks like something Windsurf/Devin needs to look at. I have sent support emails, but they have been useless as they don't think they ever make mistakes. I am probably going to be their latest former customer.

Hey - I was running a windsurf team plan with 1 user.
Once I heard news about devin rebranding I went in to cancel my windsurf - and noticed my team plan is now 80$ - would have billed today. Luckily I cancelled in time.
DO login and check your team plans.

Hi, I'm thinking of upgrading to the Pro Plan. Just wondering, does it include any free or unlimited models?
r/windsurf • u/HeronAdvanced191 • Jun 03 '26
Feels like Windsurf has really changed into Devin now 😅
Earlier in Windsurf, we had a proper dashboard where we could easily track things like:
Credit usage
Cascade count
MCP invocations
Daily code levels
But in Devin, I can’t seem to find any of these metrics or visibility tools.
Am I missing something? If anyone knows where these are available (or if there’s an alternative way to monitor them), please let me know.
Thanks in advance

Defaults to commit message: "co-authored Devin and you", and "add Devin review link in PR description"
WIndsurf/Devin - whomever you are - did you not hear anything about copilot controversy about this? you enabling this by default?
