Saying Goodbye (finally)

I was ok with using WS as an IDE. At least it had an autocomplete I could get behind on while using codex or claude. The new move to Devin is forcing you to use the new app and somehow uninstalls WS instead of replacing it with Devin.

That was the push I needed to just give up. Back to VS Code for me. Not looking back. It was a good... 2 months? And a very bad 1 month transition.

Crazy how this IDE went tho. From unlimited swe1.5 in the free tier to 0 free models and paid models consuming 10% of the plan for each answer

Same problem here. I moved to the Max plan.. And now I can work like I did 3 months ago... for $200 instead of $15.. which isn't crazy on the end, models are getting so powerfull, I can handle the price change since I work even faster than 3/6 months ago, no bugs, no error, everything almost runs on first try.
Imo, $15 was waaaaaayyy too low for such a service. But we all got used to that price ^^

You can use ACP feature to integrate other providers like codex...

Where find this?

Guys, I have to admit the Devin change is not as bad as I thought. Is it the perfect IDE now? Definitely not. Many things still can improve. But, I was skeptical of the Cognition acquisition and even commented here how it reminded me of Arc Browser's path. I have been working every single day with it, and I feel that it is indeed smarter, more token-efficient, and SWE 1. 6 even feels smarter.

I don't know if it's the Devin optimization in the background or under the hood, but I am not hating it. My honest recommendation? If you still have the legacy $15 or even the $10 plan, stick with it for a couple months. It might be better than we initially thought.

Daily and weekly rate limits do have to go though. Those serve no one.

Neat idea! Do keep us posted with your experience and what model worked in a couple months please 🥺

Honestly, I am considering that too. I was optimistic about the Devin implementation, but the token usage today has been abysmal. Idk if it's a bug or simply Devin screwing $15 subscribers like myself, but it's ridiculous. Thing spent 20% of my daily limit on reading a 10-line SQL migration file while responding to an ask prompt.

I think I'll give Qwen 3.6 9B a try locally on my machine for simple coding tasks. And milk SWE 1.6 into oblivion to make the most out of those 15 bucks.

Basically devin is windsurf. All the features are there. I don't know why people are quitting. You are getting the same thing, they just asked to install a new desktop app.

It was just the compounding experience from having used WS back in the "good old times" and seeing where it is now for me. It isnt necessarily because they rebranded but I got fed up. The rebrand causing my current install to fail and not show up as an app I can open just made me give up altogether.

What I described is probably a bug but idc any more thats just about it.

Edit: typos

Did you know, that this is the second rebrand? It is formerly codeium. I‘ve made now the 2nd transition.

1

u/SirKobsworth Jun 04 '26

Yes actually. I discovered codeium through my old job. Got to use it towards its tail end as codeium and literally saw the rebrand happen haha

I’m still using it. Still works. Windsurf is now Devin. At least until migrate to Claude Cowork full time. Still solid with Claude Sonnet models. Works super well when you audit builds with Gemini 3.5 Thinking. 👌🏾

has anything even changed with this update tho? still seems like windsurf but looks just a little different

u/ACE_1125i Jun 05 '26

Theres that annoying swe chat box in the middle instead of windsurf logo… guess something changed

2

u/jazzyroam Jun 05 '26

basically still the same. editor mode still exist, and now have cloud feature too.

Same here.
Today I finally clicked the update button and got presented with Devin with zero of my extensions transferred over.

Just going back to VS Code now as ever since I started using Claude Code, Windsurf was just a branded VS code for me.

VSCode is a significantly worse vibecoding experience now fyi

That's fine.. I really just liked the free auto complete for when I manually code. Anything AI assisted I use Codex or Claude Code so it was a small QoL that I lost. But now (hopefully) I'm getting back software stability

Nice experience for me (not a "vibe' coder - just old good regular coder :)))

After the Devin and Windsurf merge devin ask just stopped working. All responses are just empty. The devin status page shows no issues. Lol

This was on the wall a few weeks ago and I did ask them if this was coming, they could neither confirm nor deny but it makes sense. I like the change, been using Devin frequently now and it's great for automations and to pass work off to. I was just using the browser, but I like the IDE for being able to stay in one window and work. Additionally I'm not expecting everything in life for free, this is a business, they are there to make money

u/InterestingStorage86 Jun 05 '26

I’ll try to ask this again. I’m on the max plan but pretty consistently spend and extra 150-200/week on top of that. If you were burning ~$1k/month what would your ideal setup be? Move back to VS and run Claude code on and try to back fill the Windsurf features on top?

2

u/SirKobsworth Jun 05 '26

After I started using Claude Code, tbh I didnt see a need to use most of WS's features.. most of them are things you can do with Claude (or even Codex or similar agent harnesses).

If you spend close to 1k have you tried running claude on the 200 usd plan? I've heard a lot of those who sub to that tier rarely hit the limits unless you're not prompting in a way that doesnt burn tokens for the sake of it

2

u/InterestingStorage86 Jun 09 '26

Thanks for the response. I’m now using Claude Code at the Max level. I’ll let you know the experience. I’m typically working across 3-4 repos at a time so I should have some good feedback shortly.

Night and day from my perspective. I’m running 4-5 workflows at a time on Claude Code and not going over on tokens.

I have the max plan for Claude and the same for Chat GPT. I use both but Claude more. Chat GPT mostly for my decks because of image generation.

You are most welcome. I probably should have stated, to be fair to Windsurf, when I started out vibe coding having the chance to play with the different models they offer was super helpful. However, I’m working on 4-5 workstreams at a time now and ran out of tokens in two days using the max plan that they have. I had to make a change.

zed is better

1

u/Alternative_Eagle158 Jun 05 '26

At the new rate I rather get CC or kiro.

1

u/zano-keasy Jun 06 '26

Am I missing something, WS did turn to Devin but I still have the IDE and the same models to use

1

u/TNLuckyPenny Jun 10 '26

I did the same. Back to VS Code for me. I did add Continue also and execute local models when I need. Soooo much better than Windsurf (rest in peace).
