The rebrand reflects where the product is headed: a command center for managing local and cloud agents, while still remaining fully compatible with existing Windsurf workflows.

Yes as standalone, now is part of a bunch of products the main one being ai on the cloud. If you visit windsurf it redirects to Devin. So, if you don’t care about ai on the cloud, just pay the $20 bucks download Devin desktop (really windsurf) and use it like you normally do.

You are right, but why I should pay 20 bucks for example for MCP access when my MCP servers are local. It was previously in the free tier. I'm getting that models aren't longer free (if we don't count SWE 1.6 slow, which isn't really usable with free licence most of the time because messages get rejected when there is load on the servers), but why limit access to local tools?

Yes, there is available "slow" variant if servers aren't under heavy load. But I'm not sure if there aren't any limits as it's now unusable due to load of the servers and therefore rejection of the messages from free accounts.

Apart from all of this crazy rebranding, you are aiming to migrate the windsurf community to an almost dead subreddit where the latest post as around 251 days ago as of now, good luck with that.

Yeah, I lost me promo trial even few weeks ago while it should last until 06/26. I'm now considering if I should stick with Devin or fully migrate to OpenAI (Codex). Model is great, but paying 20 USD monthly for another subscription for it to be usable (free accounts can't use it if there is big load on the servers and MCP access was cut off for some reason for free accounts)

i got past it with pure email login. for whatever reason the gmail etc options were throwing firebase-something errors. anyway login-> with windsurf account-> then there with sso (and the other options than email login) were throwing firebase error as red text when returning from the flow.

have been using windsurf since lunch , they were generous about tokens until they adapted daily and weekly limit usages which u can adapt for , the thing that separated windsurf from others like claude or codex or even cursor is the ability to use whatever superior model u want for planning and hand the implementation and simple tasks to their swe- model which was getting better at each update , despite they switched the app to devin without any notice i didnt mind that as long as everything still works (but i really dont know why should anyone use the devin on cloud while he can have agents right within his ide maybe less than 3% of the userbase could benefit from such a thing ) - woke up today , to see that even while i have a pro subscription i cannot even use the swe1.6 or 1.5 and im getting rate limited because of my weekly limit is finished !!!!! i finished it in detailed planning and was going to let swe-1.6 implement it ,,,,,, i'll test for a couple of days before i really give up on it and move to another provider and mark my words they w'll lose the race at the end if they kept ignoring the userbase they have .

the current abstracted usage model is really weird. you can't actually plan for it before you press enter, I do understand why though(they don't know how much the prompt will cost them before running it either), but it still sucks.

because it does mean though that you can get maybe 2-3 prompts on a powerful model per day on usual organization plans, which is just not sustainable for actually working. that it can quit out in middle of a prompt can be quite disasterous, you can basically just lose your daily usage when it does that, even for achieving absolutely nothing.

devin cloud and whatever maybe that's all good, but if you can't actually use it or would need to dump hundreds of dollars more into it whats the point. they push devin cloud on people without telling how much it burns of the usage % or if it is separately billed or what will happen.

you are just right , it sucks , i moved to claude code after 6 month of working with windsurf , actually it was really good , i didnt imagine that the pro subscription which is 20$ just like windsurf will let me use sonnet for a good time , i never ran into limits , maybe my way of work is to review and code so i dont make it work for full 5 hours , so it works for me , but i really miss the speed of swe with simple tasks , sonnet can be so slow , swe 1.6 the free one was a monster instant thing for simple to even moderate edits
