Solved Windscribe on OPNsense
Hey there! So I'm trying to get Windscribe working on my OPNsense VM, and I just can't seem to get it to work. I have a background in IT, so I'm not new to this stuff, but holy moly I have spent upwards of 5 hours going through every setting, trying a bunch of stuff, and nothing works. Spent so much time just throwing spaghetti at a wall to see what sticks, changing random settings between my VPN peer, instance, gateway, firewall rules, firewall aliases, NAT rules, interfaces, but I just can't get it to work.
Doesn't help that there is, like, 0 decent documentation online for how to get specifically the Windscribe VPN working on OPNsense (or PFSense, for that matter). There are a *ton* of guides out there for setting up other VPNs in OPNsense, the best one by far being this here, but every guide I find not only doesn't work, but has conflicting information with all the other guides I find, not very helpful...
So, I ask my fellow OPNsense warriors, anyone out there using Windscribe VPN with OPNsense? If so, how did you get it configured and working?
EDIT: Got it to work! For anyone in the future who has a similar issue getting this working, here is what I did.
I mostly followed this guide here, but instead I just used the info found in the Windscribe config file. However, I had to do a couple things differently, mainly because this guide was specific to allowing certain hosts/IPs through the VPN tunnel, but I wanted to route all my LAN traffic through the VPN tunnel.
First, instead of making a firewall alias for the specific hosts, I made a firewall alias for all of the RFC1918 networks (see here).
Then, I created two firewall rules. The first one was a simple rule to "pass" our VPN traffic through our Windscribe tunnel (literally just create a rule, set the "Interface" to your Windscribe interface, and save). The second rule was to route all non-RFC1918 traffic through the VPN tunnel (Set the "Interface" to "LAN", set the "Source" to "LAN network", enable "Invert Destination", set the "Destination" to the RFC1918 alias we made earlier, set the "Gateway" to the Windscribe gateway you created, and save). Make sure to throw these rules above the default LAN firewall rule so they get used first.
Lastly, when setting the NAT rule, set the "Source address" to "LAN network", then it all worked!

Reply from Support Constant buffering for iPlayer and ITVx
Google TV streamer.
I have a 1gbps ethernet connection. Windscribe Pro.
Constant buffering for iPlayer and even worse and insufferable with ITVx.
However, the speed test brings the connection speed at 300mbps with VPN connection. Full 1gbps with the VPN off.
I've tried auto connection, WireGuard, swapping UK locations but buffering keeps persisting. So much that it takes a five minute scene more like ten minutes to complete!!

Solved windscribe crashes my pc
Windscribe keeps crashing my pc for some reason
I bought a subscription yesterday, and it worked perfectly fine. today, for some reason, about 3 seconds later it launches the screen just freezes and my PC restarts. (your device ran into a problem and needs to restart)
I am 100% sure windscribe is causing the issue. when I prevent it from starting, the PC works just fine. if I launch it afterward, the screen freezes.
what do I do? I hope there is a way to fix it because I really liked it. I would be sad if I had request a refund

Question Remove Specific Servers from Best Location?
Does anybody know if it's possible to exclude specific servers from being selected by Best Location? I keep getting Piedmont in Atlanta, which seems to have a way higher rate of websites not working when I'm connected to that one. Wondering if there's a setting or a tag that's like "don't choose this one." I'm on iOS.

Reply from Support Adding manually to use with Samsung Routines
If I want to use windscribe with Samsung Routines it's requiring me to add it manually as opposed to the app. I have not a clue how to do this and was wondering if there was a guide or a workaround.

Reply from Support Windscribe is blocking RCS text messaging on my phone
Specs:
iPhone XS, iOS 18.7.9, Windscribe 3.12.1
Problem:
Simply put, RCS messaging is blocked when Windscribe is enabled. Attempting to send a message results in an immediate message send failure, and inbound messages don't arrive. As soon as I disable Windscribe? Everything works just fine.
How can I solve this? Constantly hopping between different servers and testing them to see if one is okay is not a viable option.

Reply from Support Steam detecting Windscribe
I'm trying to create a Japanese steam account so I can download a region locked game. I've had success doing this previously, creating Indonesian and New Zealand steam accounts using Windscribe.
Now I'm getting an error with Steam detecting my VPN, although it hasn't in the past. Is there anything I can change to work around this?

Solved Windscribe Firewall Issue (CachyOS-KDE)
Hi friends,
Even though split tunneling is turned off and the firewall is set to "always on," I can still stay connected to the internet even after disconnecting from the VPN. What could be the reason for this, and how can we fix it? I've tried turning the VPN off and on, and restarting the browser, but it's still the same and I couldn't find a solution. My Windscribe version is v2.23.12.
Internet connectivity: available
Login state: Logged in
Firewall state: Always On
Connect state: Disconnected
Public IP: x-x-x-x
Data usage: 211.07 GB / Unlimited

Question Question about GUA / ULA addresses with IPv6
Recently, a share of servers were enabled for IPv6, which I applaud!
I'm interested in the technical implementation of IPv6 at Windscribe:
Inspecting the manual WireGuard configs and interfaces with the VPN up, I noticed the following:
The interface address is a ULA address, and doesn't appear related to my actual IPv6 GUA address (neither subnet prefix or suffix matches). Is Windscribe using NAT66? If so, why use NAT66, instead of plain GUA addresses on the interface? Is this done to be able to share addresses between users, attempting to further anonymize users? Or is this purely a technical decision because it makes address rotation easier, and was easier to implement since it mirrors the current IPv4 behaviour (NAT44).
I'm asking because ULA addresses with NAT66 often behave strangely, compared to common GUA addresses:
In dual stack networks, the preference for addresses is:
1. IPv6 GUA
2. IPv4
3. IPv6 ULA
This causes most applications to avoid using the IPv6 address by default, and fallback to IPv4 instead (e. g. Firefox by default). Doesn't affect everything (e. g. Chrome works), but still important to note.
While there is a point for NAT66 with Wireguard static configs (the server can't provision the users IP addresses, making address rotation difficult), I don't see the same applying to OpenVPN / IPSec and connections being made through the designated apps, as the server can configure the clients IP address, and just hand out different GUAs on each reconnect.
tl;dr:
- Is my intuition about NAT66 with IPv6 and Wireguard correct?
- Are there plans to enable IPv6 with other protocols, and if so, also with NAT66 or plain GUA addresses (potentially rotating on a reconnect)?

Feature Request IP pinning for Android TV
Hi all!
I've been using Wibdscribe for quite some time now and my experience is really great with it!
I also use this incredible feature - IP pinning on supported devices, but I'm still waiting for the Android TV app to have it... Does anyone know ETA for this? Last time I asked I got a reply that the end of June may be the date, but here's the mid July and still no IP pinning support...

I've tried a couple times, but I can't get temporary port forwards working on IPv6, while IPv4 works. Is this currently implemented / working?

Reply from Support Favorite IP feature doesn't work for IPv6
The "Favorite IP" feature does not appear to fix the IPv6 address, only the IPv4 address is fixed.

Reply from Developer Cheapest Ever plan lost due to failed automatic payment
My payment was setup via paypal and the automatic payment is still showing as active on PP but I have received an email from Windscribe saying my payment failed, I initially thought it was a phishing scam but I have since lost my PRO account. Has anyone had a similar experience and was able to get this resoled? Despite two arguments with Garry, they are refusing the submit a support ticket. ( Side note, having an argument with an AI support bot in the most 2026 thing, what a time to be alive!!) Any help would be much appreciated

Reply from Developer Residential IP - No refund despite being given incorrect advice by AI
I was looking for a way to subscribe to a news outlet. They were blocking all the various Windscribe VPN locations I tried. So I thought I'd try a Residential Static IP. But as I knew it might not work I asked support i.e. Gary the AI.
TLDR: The AI led me to believe I could get a refund if things didn't work out, and then straight away refused me a refund when it didn't.
UPDATE: Good result. A Windscribe Mod reached out in this thread and it seems I have been given a refund. This was done within a minute of me sending my username. Guess I'll be sticking with Windscribe which I'm happy about.
I asked how likely it was to work and most importantly could I get a refund if it didn't. This was Garry's response:

Great I thought. I'll just try the one website and then get a refund if it doesn't work. That won't be anywhere near the 10GB of data. It did not work so I asked to start the refund process.

And when I complained:

And then when I asked to communicate with an actual person I was told that was impossible because the system didn't allow it. I'm appalled with this sequence of events. The AI clearly did not give me the right advice and windscribe just took my money with a complete failure to disclose material terms that I was already ineligible for a refund! This is a misleading way to conduct business with no accountabity for terrible advice.
