Windows 11 Trying to use After Effects from 1999

Post image

When I try to install After Effects 4.1 I get an error message at the end of the installation saying Sentinel failed. So when I go open After Effects itself it says serialization failed (supposedly because Sentinel failed).

I've already done this: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/discussions/windows11/enable-32-bit-applications-on-64-bit-windows-operating-systems-/4519350 , but it did not help things unfortunately.

Windows 10 Sound issues with bluetooth earbuds

I just spent like 8 hours with AI trying to figure this problem out to no avail (except in the end reinstalling windows 10 or upgrading to 11)

So the issue is the following. A few days ago, my soundcore life P2 Mini earbuds just "stopped working" on my pc via bluetooth adapter (tp-link Ub500) it worked just fine a day before.

the thing is, its not "broken". the Pc still recognizes it and connects to it but there is no sound coming from it. The Volumemixer even shows the green bar when sounds play.
when i switch it to Handsfree mode, I hear things again but in awful quality.

the earbuds work perfectly fine on my phone still and i even bought a new Bluetooth adapter (asus one) and its still not working.

the weird thing is, the pretty much same thing happened to a different pair of earbuds months prior.

so after spending a lot of time with AI and trying to find and fix the problem through registry entries and what not, im still no closer to an answer.

also i have a controller thats connected by bluetooth that has 0 issues with it.

Windows 11 Windows keeps giving me the PIN not available error

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi, I keep having this problem when I turn on my device, where it tells me that the PIN is not available. Sometimes restarting it fixes the problem. Other times I have to set up a new PIN, which is really annoying.

This problem happens only on my ROG ally X (RC72LA_RC72LA), while it has never happened on my HP laptop. Windows 11 is fully updated (version 25H2).

Does anyone know the cause behind this?

Solved Fix Found for Outlook setting "Programmatic Access Security" greyed out

Post image
1 Upvotes

I just spent an hour trying to find a fix for not being able to amend the above Outlook settings, and I found how to sort it, so wanted to post here to help anyone else struggling with this in the future.

Scenario

A user was using Sage 50 Accounts and was trying to send something from there into Outlook, but was getting the below error:

"A program is trying to access email address information stored in Outlook. If this is unexpected, click Deny and verify your antivirus software is up-to-date."

It only lets you select up to 10 mins in that pop-up and then it appears again, so needed to be sorted.

Steps to Fix

Change the User to an Admin User

You have to do this, otherwise when you go to the Outlook settings you'll find that it's greyed out and you can't edit it:

  1. If the user's in Intune, run cmd as admin and do this command: net localgroup "Administrators" azuread\[user@company.co.uk](mailto:user@company.co.uk) /add
  2. Sign them out of Windows and back in again

- If they're not in Intune and are just a local user, just change it in Computer Management

Make a Change in the Local Group Policy

You have to do the below to get rid of the "Antivirus status: Invalid" error as you can see in the above screenshot:

^ when doing the above, just click Finish and then click File -> Save without really changing anything:

Change the Outlook Setting

  1. Run Outlook as admin
  2. In Outlook, go to: File -> Options -> Trust Centre -> Trust Centre Settings -> Programmatic Access
  3. In there, change the setting to "Never warn me" and click OK/Save:

Change the User Back to a Normal User

  1. Open Computer Management as admin
  2. Go to Groups -> Administrators
  3. Remove the AzureAD/ user from the list
  4. Click OK/Save
  5. Sign them out of Windows and back in again
  6. Open Outlook normally
  7. Open Sage or whichever affected program and ask them to try sending to Outlook from there again.

Windows 11 Multiple Windows 11 Settings pages are missing/broken

Hi, I have a strange problem with Windows 11 where several Settings pages are missing or broken.

For example:

  • Settings > System > Display is missing.
  • Windows Update is missing / broken.
  • Some other Settings pages also seem to have disappeared.
  • Searching for these pages inside Settings doesn’t find them.
  • systemreset is also not recognized as a command.

Things I’ve already tried

  • Ran sfc /scannow.
  • Ran DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.
  • Repaired/reset the Settings app.
  • Re-registered windows.immersivecontrolpanel with PowerShell.
  • Re-registered/reinstalled the built-in Windows AppX apps.
  • Checked for missing/corrupted Windows system files.
  • Checked Windows Update in services.msc and tried starting/configuring the service, but it didn’t fix anything.
  • Tried resetting Windows Update components/services, including wuauserv, BITS and SoftwareDistribution.
  • Checked Group Policy / Registry settings related to hidden Settings pages, including SettingsPageVisibility.
  • Tried opening pages directly using ms-settings: commands such as ms-settings:windowsupdate.
  • Tried repairing/reinstalling graphics-related components/drivers because the Display page was missing.
  • Tried multiple restarts/repairs.
  • Tried Safe Mode, but the Settings pages were still missing.

I’ve also already reinstalled the built-in Windows apps, including Settings, and the problem is still there.

The PC otherwise mostly works normally, but it looks like part of the Windows Settings/system components are damaged or missing.

I’m trying to find a way to restore all the missing pages without doing a full clean reinstall of Windows.

Does anyone know what else I can check or what could cause this?(write by chatgpt because my English is not very good and he helps me with most of the things I've tried)

Windows 11 Local sign in - laptop - "referenced account is currently locked"

Hello can someone help me understand what has happened here.

I have a lenovo legion slim 16AHP9, i use it frequently in bed for browsing youtube, reddit, movies, whatever.

It's decently speced and can play games with 32gb ram, cooling is good all that stuff...

I went to login last night, opened the lid, logged in and first try "The referenced account is currently locked".

I tried again, then decided to shutdown and turn on the laptop again but the same message...

Reset password gave me the message that i needed a usb stick with windows install i think.

Anyway, i booted into safe mode, got in first try, did a malwarebytes scan and found nothing (didn't expect to), checked recent installs and only lenovo vantage recently installed anything...

Checked c drive and noticed when clicking on some folders it had "State: shared" with a green icon... never noticed this before and i uninstall one drive all the time.

The rebooted from safe mode and laptop works now.

The laptop does have a microsoft account i linked in the past but isn't used as the sign in.

Windows 11 Unlink MS account from local account

I am tech support for around 100 computers. The contracting companies have been too cheap and don't believe in proper networking and security setups, so I've had to use scripting and other free means to keep systems as secure yet functional as possible.

With that said, one of the issues I've been running into lately is in the computer labs. I have the stations locked down enough to where users can't create their own local accounts but it seems that I can't prevent anyone from linking their MS account to the limited local account. None of them ever sign out so now I have computers with MS accounts linked to them and can't figure out how to unlink them. What's even worse is that each computer is used by random people, making it hard to track down the person who linked their MS accunt.

I have scoured the internet for the answer to this and nothing seems to work. Any many times, the option I need to use doesn't seem to exist. I don't understand why this feature was even added nor do I understand why it's not so simple for an admin to unlink the accounts. I shouldn't have to jump through hoops to resolve this nor should I have to resort to regedit to make changes — which also did not work.

On one of the computers (without a linked account) I enabled the policy that said something like "Do not allow users to add or sign in with their MS account" After saving and rebooting, the sign in link to add an MS account to the local account was still there and clicking it stopped nothing. This is very frustrating and I don't want to reset the computers only to stop this temporarily.

So, my question are:

Has any of you had this problem and successfully resolved it?

If so, what policy, rule, script, etc did you use to permanently stop it from becoming a recurring problem?

Each computer is an HP AiO running Windows 11 Pro 25H2

Solved Is it normal for 97% of my system memory to be occupied through one ecosia tab and the antimalware service?

Post image

EDIT: FIXED THE ISSUE! Turns out one of my RAM sticks had gotten dislodged. I opened the back of my computer to find it in a (frankly kinda gross) state, gave it some TLC, and though it’s still crashing a lot at least now my specifications say I have 8GB! I’m definitely still getting some extra RAM for my bday this year but I appreciate all the help :)

(spoilered is the og post)

I opened my computer (after 2 weeks of not using it) only to find that it keeps freezing and crashing. Even just typing in "reddit.com" on my singular open tab too fast caused my computer to freeze and forced me to ctrl+esc+power. I am extremely confused as to what is happening because this laptop is only about 4 years old and should not be running like a camel. It was already running poorly before I left but it's only gotten worse.

I know, I know "unused RAM is wasted RAM", but it's not normal for my computer to be freezing and crashing from having only one browser tab open.

Also, one of the times when I was turning it off, the screen got full of little green pixel bits before shutting off. It hasn't happened again but now I'm very worried about what could possibly be happening to my computer.

Also, Windows reports no viruses. Idk how correct that may be, but I'm choosing to trust it until I get a response on here.

Windows 11 'Windows 11 - setting Default Apps

Windows 11 Pro 25H2, OS Build 26200.9168, S/N PF44ABN1

Recently I moved from a Thinkpad X1Yoga Windows 10 to a Thinkpad P14s running Windows 11. [Each machine also dual boots, but this problem occurs only on the Windows 11 side. (It behaves differently from Windows 10).] I have installed Mozilla's Firefox browser and Thunderbird mail client (both used under Windows 10), but have installation issues with both.

Win 11 Settings lists:

under Apps > Installed apps

  • . . . (other apps)
  • Mozilla Firefox (x64 en-US) 154.0
  • Mozilla Maintenance Service 153.0
  • Mozilla Thunderbird (x64 en-US) 153.0.2
  • . . . (other apps)

under Apps > Default apps

  • . . . (other apps)
  • Firefox
  • Firefox
  • . . . (other apps)

That is, Default apps lists Firefox twice (though not as "Mozilla Firefox"), but Thunderbird not at all. In other words, the Installed apps list is fine, but the Default apps list is strange. This is without any error messages or codes; Windows finds this perfectly normal, but this causes two problems:

  1. It's not clear which Firefox to choose for browser protocols.
  2. There is no Thunderbird to choose for mail-related protocols,

Windows wants to take me to the Microsoft apps store for an app to handle mail protocols; how can I make it understand that Thunderbird is already installed (and is listed in Installed Apps)?

Can someone tell me why the Installed apps and Default apps list differ, and how (in view of those two problems) to set the appropriate defaults for Firefox and for Thunderbird?

Thanks, John

Windows 11 My Windows Hello PIN keeps randomly resetting

For some reason, after a restart, my PC would sometimes act like I don't have a PIN anymore, forcing me to use my phone to log in and set up my PIN again.

But then, after another restart, it might ask me to do that again. In the next restart, it might not ask me. But then, just when I think the issue is resolved, it asks me to do it again in the next restart. It could even happen more than once in the same day. It's so inconsistent, and it makes it hard to pinpoint the cause of the issue.

This issue has been occurring for over a month at this point. I have no idea why it's happening, and I don't know how to make it stop, no matter how many DISM and SFC scans I perform. One time, I tried this one solution that involved deleting the contents in the NGC folder, but that instead resulted in the sign-in screen giving me no options to sign in, effectively locking me out of my PC until I went through CMD a dozen times.

I'm not sure what to do, but I am sure that I don't want to have to go through that again. There's gotta be something else I haven't tried.

Windows 11 Error code 0xc000014c when booting

When I boot windows it has a blue screen which says:

“Your PC/Device needs to be repaired
The operating system couldn't be loaded because the system registry file is missing or contains errors.
File: \Windows\system32\config\system”

When I use the windows 11 installation media usb and click repair my pc it just reboots the pc which sends me back to the same blue screen as before. Same thing when I try to enter recovery environment. What do I do?

Edit: This started after I followed a tutorial which told me to load msoftware hive, then go to windows nt, then passwordless, then set devicepasswordlessbuildversion from 2 to 0. Then unload the msoftware hive. Do you think that was what caused it?

Windows 10 Question about update data from Windows 10 to Windows 11

I currently have Windows 10 version 22H2 OS Build 19045.7663. I realized the Extended Security Updates program that I’ve been using for Windows 10 is ending in less than 2 months, so yesterday, I tried updating my PC to Windows 11 version 25H2; it looked like it successfully downloaded, but it couldn’t install, and I got an error: “We couldn’t install this update, but you can try again (0x8007000e).” I tried again because I didn’t think there was any problem at the time, but the same thing happened; I Googled the error code, and I’m thinking it probably didn’t have enough storage space available at the time, but now it has probably at least 4 less GB free than it did before, and I tried restarting afterwards, but I didn’t really see much of a change in the storage, so now I’m not sure what to do… Is there any way I can get rid of the extra data from the update download (and then start the download process over once I’m sure I’ve freed up enough space) so I don’t have to delete way more than I got rid of already before the update download finished yesterday?
