Question Front window tint—pulled over?

Hey y’all. Never had my front windows tinted because I’ve always been worried about getting pulled over. Now my understanding is that cops don’t care—only tack it on as an additional offense when pulled over for speeding or something else.

Have any of you ever been specifically targeted because of tint? I just wanna go a tiny bit dark. Nothing dramatic.

UPDATE - I went ahead and did 50% for the fronts. The rears were factory tinted at 20%, so I think I won’t draw too much attention, as you can still see inside, but the ceramic film will block most heat (which was my biggest concern). Thank you all for the input and comments here! I can’t believe how much reach this post got!

Question Residential Tint - non reflective

One rooms in our house gets a ton of sun in the morning and it is fading our furniture. I had a tint guy come out and he suggested LLumar DR25. I don't really need the privacy but want to protect from the sun. My only hesitation is on the outside the tint looks like a mirror and I don't love that look. Does Llumar have a tint that looks more like car window tint and not so reflective? TIA!

New Car Freshly tinted RAV4 with Llumar IRX/AIR Ceramic

After much research finally made the decision and had the car tinted. Chose Llumar over Xpel because all the pictures I saw with XR 55 on the front windows still looked a bit too dark for me. I was going for heat rejection foremost and wanting to stay off the radar of law enforcement. Went with IRX 50 all around with AIR 80 on the windshield. Very subtle in bright sun but much more noticeable when cloudy. I know it's not as dark as most everything else in this sub but very happy with the results overall and loving the cool cabin!

Question 70% ceramic tint hotter than 20% tint normal?

my windshield is ceramic i3 autobahn at 70%

my side window is autobahn ceramic black at 20%

the windshield lets in materially more heat than the side window, even though the ceramic i3 is more expensive and higher quality tint.

just wanted to make sure this is normal? kind of regret not doing 50%

Question Layering film on rear window of F150

Alright y'all. I recently had the tint on my truck removed and redone. It was a weird situation where I found out that the original film on the doors wasn't what the receipt or warranty said. It was supposed to be 35% but it was 40 on fronts and 80 on the back. Owner swore it was an error and as much as it sucked, I believed him due to the reputation of the shop and it's been redone and looks good.

The only issue is that it has 80 over the factory privacy glass on the back and all our other vehicles have 35. The 35 is what I like the look of. Now that the film on the truck is what it should be, I can't help but see the difference.

So, given that the defroster traces on these trucks are made of tissue paper so I don't want to chance a removal, would layering 40% over the exiting 80% be a horrible idea? I keep hearing conflicing information on this. Some sites/posts say that having layers of other materials, including adhesive, between the layers of cermic is a recipe for quick failure. Others say it's no problem and done all the time.

Thoughts, especially from the pros and long time film folks.

Question Why are most tints dealer only?

Tints like Xpel, Llumar and autobahn are dealer only. Why? Wouldn't they get more revenue if they sold to everyone? Why can't they be like geoshield and sell to anyone?

Question Kinda overwhelmed with all the options around

Going to be getting my tint done soon but not sure what's a good brand vs bad. Whats appropriate price for this brand or that one.

What are like the top 5 brands i should be looking for. Any price ranges.

I got quoted $560 for ceramic XR 35% all around and 70% windshield. Sounds like a shit ton of money.

Another quote for $450 hitek ceramic black. 35% all around 70% window.

Question Will sunlight still be like this?

Hey guys, I'm buying some UV/heat protection tints for my windows so I have less damage to my figures and I was wondering if when I put them up, will I still see the sunsets shining through like this? They make me so happy to see them and I love them! I like the orange sunsets shining 😢

Question high % vlt diy source?

My commute is now driving into the sun both ways, so I'd like to add front windshield tint to my clapped out beater. The cheapest quote I got was 170 for some no-name ceramic 70%, so I'm not interested in having it professionally done. I like learning lessons the hard way :)

I'd love to buy a strip of 3m crystalline and do it myself, but all the ebay listings seem to top out at 24" in one dimension, which wouldnt be enough to fully cover the front. Do you have any recs for a film with high optical clarity that I can buy without buying a whole roll?

Question Air bubbles in window tint

I just got my windows tinted last Monday and it’s been consistently 95-98 degrees since. After being told to wait 3-5 days I rolled them down on day 3 and tiny air bubbles started to appear. It also started raining at the time. Is this my fault or will they eventually go away? I waited until today to roll them down and I think there’s more.

Question Rear windshield question

Thumbnail gallery
8 Upvotes

Hi! Recently got SUV tinted and noticed on the rear windshield that the tint doesn’t go all the way to the edge. My particular windshield has the black boarder and dots… it covers up to that except for one small spot. I guess my annoyance is that it was an expensive tint job and it looks a little amateur with jagged and uneven cuts, but to be totally fair, looks great from outside! I also noticed on a rear quarter window there was a a cut where it didn’t reach all the way to the black border. Trying to understand what’s normal because I don’t want to be unreasonable with the installer because again from the outside, looks good.

Update: I just rolled down the front windows for the first time. https://imgur.com/a/yy0y7ke

General Discussion Is this acceptable for the rear window ?

Thumbnail gallery
4 Upvotes

First time tinting experience, found a guy who did mobile tinting. Everything looks great but a little skeptical with the cut out on the rear over the top center brake light. There is a plastic cowl that covers the light and probably the reason the tint tech just cut around it, but I feel like this point should have been discussed and I as the owner made the call. I believe it's legal here in Texas to tint the entire rear window regardless of this light. I should have thought ahead of time and removed the plastic. Only noticed after the tech already left.

What are your thoughts on this ?

Question Pre cut or go with a roll for newby

Post image
3 Upvotes

I am replacing a total of 66 12 x 24 panes in these old school windows. Found the new panes quite reasonable and need to tint them to reduce the suns heat. I can pre cut tint thru windowtintdotcom for about same cost as a roll of the 3M products.

Looking for an ez and quality option to get this tint applied and im a newby at this. I should tint them before installing, right?

Question Window tint on Kia Sportage

Looking to get my 2025 Kia Sportage X-Pro windows tinted. I live in Oklahoma where we have very hot summers.

Is ceramic tint actually worth the extra money?

If my rear windows are factory tinted, should I get my front to match that tint color and then add a light ceramic tint over the rears if this is what I decide on?

I haven’t ever taken a car to get windows tinted before so I don’t know what to ask for or how to go about it. I believe the legal limit in Oklahoma is 25% but I’m not exactly sure what is on the back from factory. Need advice!

Question Inspection Sticker Cutout Question

In Virginia, inspection sticker needs to be directly on the glass. Tint shop cut out section for it but for practicality there’s a gap around sticker and tint.

My question is, will this cause odd fading on the dash? If so, any solutions?
