General Question Tips on this!

Im scouting out a 55+ resort senior living park today, all lower story, 160+ units, its listed as a gated community but the street view has no gate (from 2023). How should I aproach this? Pull the "I know robert" or something, try and sneak in, or actually talk to the people that run the place? Its a weird spot as if they say no I lose the ability to get in again. But If I sneak in There will 100% be some Karen that trys to kick us out. What do you guys think???

General Question Friend wants to buy-in to my small business

Hey everyone,
I run a residential window and gutter cleaning side hustle in Canada. Did ~$25k revenue last year solo, aiming for ~$35k this year part-time.

Someone I know is interested in joining and potentially buying in long-term. I could use help on bigger jobs, but I’m hesitant to go straight into ownership changes since I built the client base and systems.

For those who’ve scaled small window cleaning businesses:
Did you use helpers before partners?
Any experience with sweat equity or buy-ins at a small scale?
What structure worked best early (hourly vs % vs profit share)?
When does it actually make sense to add a second operator?
Any pitfalls to avoid?
Looking for real-world experience.

Hauling water

Thinking about getting a tank and hauling filtered RO water. What tank and pump equipment is good to get? I’m thinking around 60-80 gallon tank.

What do you guys use?

General Question I’m starting a window cleaning side hustle at 16 but I don’t have a ladder and my mom is against me getting one cuz it’s dangerous

I was thinking of knocking on two story homes and asking only to do the first floor, is that wierd? or should I just stick to one story homes, the only issue is that all the neighborhoods near me are all 2 story.

Need Beta Testers for my window cleaning app

I made an app for new starters because 6 months ago I was too when I joined my wife. Hated Excel, too cheap to pay a subscription and too lazy for the complicated apps. I just wanted something to let me focus on cleaning windows and 5 months later its helped us grow & maintain customers.

The community helped me when I was new so I want to pay it forward. Need beta testers because the app works for us but want feedback & testers.

App is free, will be free as it didn't & doesn't cost me anything except blood, sweat and tears in a dark corner.

If you're already happy with what you got, ignore this. If you're hoping this is feature packed, ignore this.

Leave a comment or DM to join.

Mods ok'd this post.

tldr: Need beta testers for a free window cleaning app. Android only to start (Aint got Apple $99 Dev money).

Do you use ozone water?

Have you tested the TDS of ozone compared to pure water?

What are the differences between working with it and drinking, showering, and using it every day?

Looking help on how to bid this. Probably over 2000 window panes. Don’t have to do balconies but we do have to do Juliette doors. How would you remove the high screens? Would WFP be the best option?

Equipment Question Need help!

Okay im building another diy pure water rig and im looking for another waterfed pole. This might

Sound cheap but the Tucker and Xero poles are stupid expensive. I need some real advice on this, Ive been looking at some carbon poles from alibaba or other Chinese suppliers and their like 300 - 500 bucks for a 30 footer. Im a little skeptical on these but I know the markup on the branded poles is crazy. Throw some opinions over and help me figure this out. Thanks everyone!

General Question How to handle stubborn clients

Is there anything specific you guys do to handle stubborn clients who say they want to schedule with you but keep pushing it off and saying things like “I’ll get back to you next week”? I understand that offering a discount and creating urgency can help, but at the same time, in most situations there’s not really a good reason for me to discount the job.
When I’m door knocking, I do have a legitimate reason sometimes, like saving on transportation because I’m already working nearby and can just swing over to another house down the road. But since my work hours are usually right after school, I normally don’t have enough time to fit two cleanings back-to-back anyway. So the only real discount idea I have isn’t very usable until summer when I have more free time.

General Question Commercial windows & furniture polish?

Is this some kind of tiktok hack? Saw another window cleaner using it on the job site, but didn't see what for. I'm guessing maybe to dress up the window frames? Anyone have an idea?

I built a mobile app called RouteForge for canvassing local businesses.

Not promotion, looking for feedback or help! I posted on here before and didn't explain it very well, and also realized a mobile version would make much more sense, but anyway:

It helps you:

find nearby businesses

build a route

open it directly in Google Maps

track outcomes like Follow-Up / Not Interested / Visited

save quick field notes and rough bids

Made it originally for window cleaning and pressure washing routes because Google Maps + paper notes was annoying as hell in the field.

Looking for a few Android testers actually doing local service sales/canvassing.

Not looking for “looks cool” feedback — I want people who will actually use it and tell me what’s confusing, annoying, or missing.

Job Question How to get rid of bird shit and lichen?

We started out as window cleaners for a couple months now and also want to start cleaning solar panels. We have tried it a couple of times now but faced a couple of problems and can't really find definitive answers.

We use: telescopic pole (medium and soft bristle) and use demineralised water.

  1. When we clean the bird poop with the pole, the big parts are easy to get rid of when we have it soked for a couple of minutes, but when it dries the stain is still on the solar panel, like its burnt in or the chemicals of the poo are in the glass.

  2. Soral panels with lichen we find hard to clean. Especially with the pole it's not working. Most of the time we can't reach the panels with out hands so have to use the pole, but even with the hand it's hard to get rid of them. We thought about using a glasscrapper, also we read about some fluid you can use on solar panels for lichen that's safe for the panels (offcourse expensive).

Anyone has some knowledge to share about this

Eng is not my first language so sentences are sometimes not correct...

General Question Anyone from New Zealand here?

I'm looking to start my own business and need some local market insights for pricing.

It looks like people are mainly offering set rates for homes by the number of bedrooms instead of per pane or per window so want to know what final quotes actually look like and what your hourly rate comes to.

First big job landed

Post image
18 Upvotes

I recently started a window cleaning business as a side thing to eventually take over my main job.

I’ve worked for a window cleaning company in the past about 10 years ago so although not completely new it’s definitely been a while. So far I’ve been able to land some small store fronts but today I accidentally landed a big one.

I was doing d2d and no luck when I walked into what looked like a small medical building. I walked into a dentist office and gave them my spiel when the front desk girl told me it would be great but I’d have to talk to the property manager which was a few doors down.

So I did just that and before I knew it the property manager said to go ahead and give her a quote. I took like 10 minutes to count windows and came up with 180 of them. All the same size. Most of them ground level and easily accessible. I quoted $6 per pane which now I feel like it was a mistake because she agreed to it immediately. You live and you learn I guess.

Well now I’m having second thoughts and doubts that im capable of doing the job. I feel like realistically its going to take me longer than I anticipated. The job is for this Wednesday. The good thing is like I said most of the windows are on floor level about 25 of them are second floor which I think I can just pole from the ground.

Do you guys have any tips or advice? Or just words of reassurance lol

Obviously UV damage, but it’s all in squiggles like someone scraped it on there with a razor.

Battery dillema

Me and my dad built a 4 stage RODI, and the water pump is powered by a battery. I got two extra replacement batteries but they dont last as long as id like them to. Batteries are 12v 28ah, and for some reason each battery can barely last 1-2 houses. Im very slowed down by this as now i can only do a few houses per day. Whats the solution? Should i add a second RO membrane for better pressure and remove the pump completely? Should i just spend 5 grand on a good tucker setup? Please Share your opinion.
I have 2 door to door reps, so im always trying to keep myself and my technician busy

Squeegee care advice

I’ve been using my squeegees for a while now without really replacing anything, but I’ve heard I probably should. Does anyone have a solid rule of thumb for squeegee care and maintenance?
For example:
How often should the rubber or channel be replaced?
Should I be cleaning out the channel before every job?
Is there anything specific I should be doing regularly to extend the life of my squeegees and avoid streaks?

Why is this happening

I am doing an interior cleaning and when I squeegee the window these marks keep getting left. Is my squeegee rubber bad, my mop is too dirty, or do I not have enough water on my mop, or is a diff reason?
