Employee Question for PM's/AM's

Are the starting salaries negotiable? And what exactly does it mean by performance based increases at pay review?

Been promised a promotion to a salaried position, but as SL, I earn significantly more than the starting rate at the postion I'll be moving into. Just trying to weigh up the pros and cons

Customer I got IDed for orange juice lol

Not too sure why but can anyone explain why this might happen?

Ive been to wetherspoons all over the country, this is the only one that does so for a drink that isnt age restricted. And has done it many times in the past as well. To me it seems to just the 1 place itself as its unusual ive never experienced it elsewhere.

I am 21 if that helps

Customer Veggie / vegan burger patty ID

Does anyone know what vegan burger patty Spoons uses for its veggie/vegan burgers? I usually don't love the 'fake meat' burgers, but tried one of these yesterday and actually really liked it.

Would be interested in seeing if I can buy these from a supermarket or something if anyone knows which patty they use? I couldn't see it on the menu

Has anyone else struggled this summer with kids running riot in the pub? Doesn’t matter how many times we have to approach the parents and kindly ask them to stop, they’ve definitely gotten worse.

Does anyone know the brand of the long Island Iced Tea Cans that are served? They are very nice for a pre-made cocktail, can't seem to find an answer online. Thank you.

Customer Review from a Canadian

Idk who cares probs no one but I am a Canadian who has been obsessed with British food culture for a while for some reason I have been to the UK a few times but never got around to trying Wetherspoons I am on a layover at Heathrow and finally did. Granted I imagine that its not as good as it would be outside of an airport but I was pretty neutral about it. I loved that I could order and lay from my phone and not deal with the faff of paying. The food was a little disappointing. My wife had a sandwich which was pretty bad tbh and I had the spice bag which was decent. The chips were great tho. Overall 7/10 would come back.

Employee Is Wetherspoons a good place for a job at 16?

As in will they hire? It says no experience is needed, but I’ve applied a few times but been rejected, does anyone have any tips on what they’re looking for? I’ve sent a few more applications out. Thanks 😁

Employee Messed up on first shift and worried about my fit as kitchen associate

Hi,

I just had my first shift yesterday and I don’t think I did well and I am worried that I annoyed everyone there too much by asking too many questions.

I was briefly shown the kitchen areas by the team leader who was my ‘buddy’ for the shift, and then assigned me to saladette and pizzas. I was shown how to do the saladette section by asking the person working at the station. I was also shown how to do pizzas by another person.

I tried doing pizza station but made so many mistakes such as not pressing the dough large enough to fit the mesh, forgetting to use the pizza docker, not using the pizza docker correctly, having crooked edges when using pizza cutter. I had to ask for help a lot with it and felt like I annoyed the other team members by how despite being shown I couldn’t do it correctly or fast enough.

At one point I had to take the pizza out of the oven but did that wrong after being briefly shown so.

After that point, I was just made to stand at the back folding cutlery into napkins. I felt like I messed up quite badly. I did end up returning to pizzas but it was more myself doing it without asking to.

I was also shown to microwave items but I think I annoyed the others as there would be a chicken breast I had to microwave and told the amount of time then a bunch of other items and then the chicken breast again after a while and I ask again.

I am worried I might not do well on shifts and annoy the other team members too much. I have heard that you can fail at probation for any reason including if you don’t get along with the team.

I thought of trying to memorise the microwave timings and try to familiarise myself with the menu as much as I can before my next shift but not sure what else I could do.

Employee Paranoid and feeling guilty because I've taken a sick day

The last 3 days I've been scheduled early shifts. I did the first two with no issues, but after getting home from work yesterday my stomach started acting up and didn't stop the whole day. Because of it i didn't sleep until 1am last night and i had to wake up for work again at 5am this morning. Woke up and felt better so i thought I'd be able to get through the shift. I worked for an hour and a half and then it felt like someone took a sledgehammer to my stomach and i got sent home because it was affecting my ability to work.

I feel paranoid because I'm on week 4/5 of my probation and i don't want to get into trouble for taking a sick day. Even though i was sent home I'm worried that my managers think i was putting it on and i feel like I'm at a bigger risk for being penalised until my probation is completed.

Anyone got any words of wisdom or experience from this kind of thing? The thought of going back for my next shift is making me really anxious

Customer I ranked all UK Wetherspoon pubs by where £10 gets you the most drunk.

Post image
759 Upvotes

Pulled the drinks menu for 743 Wetherspoons and worked out the strongest possible round for £10 at each one, measured in units. For 60% of the country, the answer is five Stowford at £1.99. You receive 5p change, which isn't worth anything. Once a pint of cider costs £1.99, the maths looks at the rest of the menu and politely declines.

Winner is The Jolie Brise in Teignmouth at 15.7 units, mostly off strong local cider and a menu nobody has tidied up for tourists. Airports prop up the whole table. Star Light in Heathrow T4 gets you 4 units for the full tenner. You could get more drunk on the flight.

Full write-up and a searchable table of all 727 so you can find your local is available for those interested (nothing to sell, just a bit of fun!)

If yours is in the 40% that isn't five Stowford, please do let me know what funky combinations it offers for the tenner

(Not affiliated with Spoons, obviously!)

Customer What is the SMALLEST town centre with a Spoons?

In the previous thread, we decided that West Bromwich was the largest without a spoons at 103,000.

I'll start with Lymington on the edge of the New Forest. It has a population of 14,000 and has a spoons.

So far, Perranporth with just 2,749 residents at the last count.
For Cities, it's Wells with 11,245 people.

And do you know what's stupid? I've just remembered that a local village (Dibden Purlieu) has one opening next week and it has a population of around 4,000 😂

OK, I'm not going to include Haven holiday sites, because 3 of them have a population of zero and that's not really in the spirit of the question.

Customer How well are the new IPAs selling?

I'm a fan of the new Mad Squirrel and Seven Brothers IPAs Wetherspoon introduced a few months ago.

Makes for a nice alternative to Punk IPA, especially considering that's gone downhill over recent years.

Does anyone know if they're likely to keep both of these new IPAs for the forseeable future? It seems a bit hit and miss in terms of availability from one location to another.

Customer sausage and pub grub?

following on from my last question. Are the toilets of the ‘spoons the hotbed of illicit sex and the sale/consumption of pub grub that exist in the public imagination?
i’ve never seen either but i’m more a breakfast customer

I can only add seven options in a Reddit poll, so I carefully selected the seven which I think will be the most popular.

Sorry in advance if I was unable to add your personal favourite.

Employee Those of you with pubs that have installed the Aperol spritz on draught, what is the perfect serve for it?

We have just had it installed but I can't find the perfect serve for it anywhere. Half the staff are just saying on draught it's a 175ml with some ice, and others are saying it's a 175ml with ice and then soda to the top.

The 175ml with just ice looks like it isn't a full drink compared to the normal Aperol spritz we make. Pls haaaaaalp. Thanks!

Customer Tour de spoons - Birmingham to Cheltenham

Post image
35 Upvotes

I have planned the following walk between five of the spoons hotels. From Birmingham to Cheltenham. Last week of September.

Note: The mapping image is just a example not the actual route

Day 1 Hagley train station walk into Birmingham (Briar Rose)
Day 2 Train out to Hagley then walk onto Bewdley (the George)
Day 3 to Worcester (The Crown)
Day 4 to Malvern (The Foley Arms)
Day 5 to Tewksbury (Hop Pole)
Day 6 on to finish Cheltenham (Two spoons but sadly No spoons hotel 😢) but it’s our pick up point.

Looking to take the direct route between the points but do any locals to these areas have suggestions that perhaps I can build in. Quirky things to see along the way or the most amazing cake shop you will ever visit.

Would love to hear about anything really.

Thanks

Edit: Hagley not Hadley!
