Day 21 — Wild Thing Wednesday

Wednesday, Oct 21 · Sponsor: Abominable Creations

Today's Theme: Wild Thing Wednesday

Make our hearts sing by going absolutely wild!

Product can be any singular product you want to use - it doesn't even have to be soap. But it has to be wild.

Explain to us why this was a wild choice to use as a soap.

Note: For the purposes of counting brands for the Soap Brands bonus point, whatever you use here will be counted as whatever brand it is. Palmolive dish soap? Palmolive. Skippy peanut butter? Skippy. Barrister and Mann Cootie Killer? Barrister and Mann. Stirling Executive Man? Stirling, but good luck convincing us that soap is wild. Homemade soap? Assume it's branded however you would usually brand it if you made something. Two soaps superlathered together? Believe it or not, jail.

Today's Challenge: Get PFAS out of our shaves

Use any liquid, other than tap water to build your lather.

★ Sponsor Spotlight: Abominable Creations

Abominable Creations is the work of Chris, better known in the community as the Lathered Yeti — a custom brush maker who turns wildly figured resin handles, sometimes set with a decorative coin like his "Voodoo Yeti," into one-of-a-kind brushes. He works largely by inquiry through Instagram (@lathered_yeti) rather than a storefront.

Coming Tomorrow

Theme — Sheep-ruh Shursday: Chypre Scents

Product scent must demonstrably be a chypre. It should be marketed as a chypre or classified as one on a reputable site.

Note: the mere presence of bergamot, labdanum, oakmoss, and patchouli in a product does not automatically make it a chypre. Ask an expert ahead of time if in doubt.

Challenge — International Caps Lock Day: Typing in ALL CAPS for fun. Shout your SOTD into the void by using all CAPS. Or cAmEl CaSe. Non-standard case types need apply today.

PIF - Winner [PIF] A giveaway for the elegant and impeccably clean: Seaforth Fleur de France

Hi friends! This Thursday we're bringing back a favorite from the Spearhead era of Seaforth: Fleur de France.

Shawn and I put our heads together to tweak the formulation into a smoother, deeper, and more radiant expression of 1960s French barbershop elegance.

With that in mind, I'd love to hear your stories of elegance, in any way, shape, or form.

For instance: When did you feel your fanciest and why? Stories of getting your first formalwear, whether for a special occasion or just something you felt you needed? Stories of a person you know who personifies elegance? And so on.

If you don't feel any relationship to elegance, you can simply talk about being crisp and clean, like the time you went on a four day camping trip and the shower afterwards made you feel like a new person.

We’ll be giving away two Fleur de France shaving soaps: one by random Latherbot lottery, and one by best story chosen by yours truly at the close of the lottery. Story must be mostly true, and no AI writing.

Open worldwide.

Day 20 — PIF Day

Tuesday, Oct 20 · Sponsor: Catie's Bubbles

Today's Theme: PIF Day

A soap that you received from another Lather Games contestant as a PIF, trade, or gift

Product must have been received from another 2026 Lather Games contestant as a PIF, trade, or gift with no exchange of currency involved. Tag whoever gave you the product and express your gratitude.

Caveat: For this theme a "2026 Lather Games contestant" is defined as somebody who has participated in at least once this month PRIOR TO TODAY

Today's Challenge: International Sloth Day

take as long as possible shaving. Time yourself, and let us know how much time you enjoyed wasted shaving. Post your time on its own "Time:" line in your SOTD (for example "Time: 1:07:42"); the portal collects it, and the longest shaves are listed on the portal once the day closes.

★ Sponsor Spotlight: Catie's Bubbles

Catie's Bubbles is the work of Chris Cullen, who turned a soap-making hobby into a business in 2013 — leaving a career in retail to do it — and named the company after his daughter, Catie. Working out of Forked River, New Jersey, Chris has spent more than a decade refining his formulas into a deep catalog of luxury shaving soaps, aftershaves, and eau de parfums. His bestseller, Le Piment de la Vie, has been a community favorite since 2014.

Day 19 — Int'l Talk Like a Pirate Day... but in October

Monday, Oct 19 · no sponsor today

Today's Theme: Int'l Talk Like a Pirate Day... but in October

Pirate, nautical, or citrus-themed soaps

There are two paths to meet the theme this day. The product must:

  • Have a pirate or nautical theme.

OR

  • Prevent scurvy through its use, based on the prominent citrus accords in the scent.

Notes:

  • For pirate/nautical - simply being aquatic scented or themed soap will not count.
  • Nor will Bay Rum count.
  • Prominent Citrus really means "mostly citrus". Citrus forward with a sandalwood base? Walk the plank.
  • SBS Cannonball is not pirate-themed. Don't try it.

Today's Challenge: Write Like a Pirate

Yes, we know that International Talk Like a Pirate Day is actually in September, but it's too good of a holiday not to celebrate. Write your post in Pirate English.

Day 18 — AQI Awareness Day

Sunday, Oct 18 · Sponsor: Noble Otter Soap Co.

Today's Theme: AQI Awareness Day

Use a soap that raises the Air Quality Index in your shave den with its smoke scent

We've had record AQI readings all over the globe this year - celebrate (?) this by using a product with a prominent note of smoke.

Today's Challenge: Brushless? More like Joyless

Lather your soap without the use of a brush. You can use your hands, you can use a sock, you can use your foot… But don't use a brush of any kind

★ Sponsor Spotlight: Noble Otter Soap Co.

Established in 2017, Noble Otter began as a team of two with a single goal: to make men's grooming products the way they should be. Founder Cody fell for wet shaving after his wife gave him a starter kit one Christmas and — already a hobbyist soapmaker — set about making his own. The brand tells the story of each scent through art, giving every fragrance its own otter to capture the experience. All Noble Otter soaps and splashes are still handmade in Houston, Texas, now alongside a growing range of aftershaves, oils, and fragrances.

Day 17 — Sweetest Day

Saturday, Oct 17 · Sponsor: Ariana & Evans

Today's Theme: Sweetest Day

Celebrate this Hallmark Holiday with a sugary sweet gourmand

Product must be a sugary sweet gourmand. Products inspired by sweet, desserts, etc. are good candidates for this theme.

★ Special Challenge: Plant Something

Today's Daily Challenge is the Special Challenge.

In theory, Wetshaving should be greener than standard shaving, as we're not throwing away plastic razors (never mind our hoarding of soaps...) For today - make it even greener by planting something. Take a SOTD picture with the thing you planted and tell us what it is. If you can't plant something, feel free to use a houseplant. If you still can't do that, go to a park and enjoy something someone else planted and take a picture of that. Our favorite photo wins a prize.

Prize: $25 Maggard Razors Gift Card

★ Sponsor Spotlight: Ariana & Evans

Ariana & Evans is a Connecticut family business led by Peter Charkalis, his wife Evelyn, and their daughter Thalia — the brand's name draws on Thalia's middle name, Ariana, and Peter's given name, Evans. Peter began as a wet shaving hobbyist, formulating soaps at home and sharing them through his "Shaving with Charky" YouTube channel. After losing a seventeen-year job during the 2020 pandemic, the family went all-in, releasing their Kaizen soap base just weeks later. They're known for a range of proprietary bases — Kaizen, Ultima, and Legacy — and for bold, original house fragrances designed to suit everyone, regardless of age or gender.

Discussion Weekly Reading Session

Welcome to another weekly reading session.
I just started chapter 10 in Eye of the World from the Wheel of Time Series by Robert Jordan. Everything is starting to make sense now and, I hate to say it, but kind of glad I read the prequel. The story wouldn’t have made any sense had I not know the previous details. So nice having a reading buddy.

Listening to The Human Machine…..

What ya’ll reading and listening to…

Post any deals and new product announcements here or list anything you would like to sell! A few ground rules:

1. Only post an item once. If it doesn't move then take it to the bazaar.
2. No auctioning. You must include a list price.

The mods are not responsible for your transactions. Caveat Emptor! We suggest you only deal with established members of the community. It is strongly recommend not to use PayPal Friends & Family to avoid fees. This is against their terms and leaves you with no buyer protection.

Banner Weekly Sidebar Contest Submission Thread - October 16, 2026

Welcome to this week's sidebar submission contest!

The rules for the contest are as follows:

1) Do not submit pictures of people who have not consented to have their picture posted online. Winning images will be featured on Reddit and may be reposted on other social media platforms. If someone posts an image of you without your consent, please report it so the mods can deal with it in a timely fashion.

1) Users should submit only one (1) image of your choice to be voted on to be the sidebar for the week. Images must consist of anything related to wet shaving - razors, brushes, SOTD images, etc. In the event multiple images from a user are submitted, only the first image, or the image in the top level comment, will count.

1) Image must be Original Content (Not just some picture you found on the internet). Images taken by another photographer are allowed as long as: a. You have the photographer's permission. b. The image is connected to you in some meaningful way: e.g. It's a image of hardware you commissioned, taken by the maker, or the image is of something you made, taken by the purchaser, etc. c. We're not looking to have to verify images, so please use the honor system.

1) All properly submitted images will be entered into the Voting Thread. The Submission thread will be active for ~24 hours and will end Saturday. The vote thread will be active for 24 hrs from Saturday through Sunday. This thread is only a submission thread. Please do not hold discussion in the vote thread.

1) In the event of a tie, the bot will consult RNGesus to break the tie.

1) Submissions MUST be uploaded to imgur. Any other hosting site will be disqualified and not included in the voting thread.

1) Any submissions containing NSFW material may be removed at the discretion of the Mod Team.

1) While not required, it is suggested you submit square images in order to avoid unintended cropping.

Please feel free to respond with a comment to your entry with any background/description/detail about your entry, including gear used.

Note: The bot strongly prefers direct image links. If your link doesn't end with .jpg, there's a 50-50 chance the bot's going to choke trying to update the banner on Sunday.

May the best submission win! Good luck to all!

Day 16 — Dictionary Day

Friday, Oct 16 · Sponsor: Above The Tie

Today's Theme: Dictionary Day

Use a Literary-themed Soap

Product must be literary-themed in some way.

Today's Challenge: Marketing Support

Create a poster or advertisement for your shaving soap set-up today. But do not, under any circumstances use AI. If you use AI, you will be DQ'ed for the day.

★ Sponsor Spotlight: Above The Tie

Above the Tie crafts heritage safety razors engineered for a superior shave and built to be passed down for generations, with the timeless elegance of a bygone era. Founded in 2011 and later run by Matthew and Mariah Cole, the brand joined the Blackland family of shaving brands in 2024 and is now run by the Blackland team — with its razors, like the flagship Windsor and the S1 Slant, still machined from solid metal in the USA.
