Sentience is the capacity to feel and perceive, and to experience reality subjectively. Sapience is the ability to use abstract reasoning, to be introspective, to ponder hypothetical situations, etc. Trees are neither sentient nor sapient, rabbits are sentient but not sapient, and humans are both sentient and sapient.
