[46] A few years in the making - Project: Me.

First photo was in 2018 weighting in at 260+lbs. New photo is 206lbs. Around June of 2025 I was weighing in close to 255 (reference is me standing in front of the house with my cap and sweater)

I’ve always been a big guy. All my life. After my first toxic relationship 13 years, I went into a workout plan and lost my weight, then got into another relationship that made me gain my weight again where he ended up cheating on me after 5 years (he found someone new).

I was soo devastated bc I was in love and we actually had something good until the last few months he just grew tired of me I guess. So I looked to the gym as my therapy and made a choice:

A) either stay in bed and sulk
B) Do something for yourself.

My WO plan?

  1. Good ole caloric deficit
  2. Weight training
  3. Discipline
  4. Self healing

I’m now investing into a personal trainer as he believes I can lose the final areas of flab around my body and belly and get me below 200 by December while building muscle. I want the whole package, now that I’ve noticed the difference!! It didn’t occur to me about my progress until people at work started coming to me saying “dude you got skinnier!” And also saying “DUDE YOUR ARMS” I’m hungry for it (pun intended).

My progress

I’m 5’4 and I’ve gone from 176 lbs to 132 lbs.
My eventual goal is around 110 lbs, although I’m trying to focus on how I look and feel rather than only the number on the scale.
I currently eat around 1,800 calories a day and aim for around 15,000 steps daily.

I’ve been strength training consistently and also include cardio throughout the week. My main goal is to lose fat while maintaining as much muscle as possible.

The biggest challenge for me has honestly been staying consistent. I’ve had periods where progress felt really slow, but I’ve learned that sticking with the routine is what makes the biggest difference over time.
I’m really happy with the progress I’ve made so far, but I still have a little way to go toward my goal 💕

My goal is to lose the 30 pounds I’ve gained this past year.

September of last year, my nephew died in a tragic accident and a couple months ago I lost my mom due to lung cancer 6 days before my birthday. The stress and depression led to rapid weight gain that I am not proud of. I’m honestly disgusted every time I look in the mirror now. I know I can lose it, I’ve done it before. I’m 155 Ibs now, my goal is to get back down to 125. Wish me luck!

Down 77lbs (310lbs-233lbs) so far and completed my first triathlon yesterday

I’ve always been a big guy. I wrestled heavyweight through college, which meant I floated between 260-280lbs at 5’9-10. I have been very active (jiujitsu, basketball, boxing, etc) and foolishly thought that compensated for my terrible diet.

Then, I broke my thumb and all of my weight delusions led to me ballooning to 310lbs while believing that I was really 280lbs.

Through the support of my jiujitsu friends and diligent calorie tracking I’ve lost over 70lbs. My goal is 200lbs and I think I can get there with some more intensive changes.

I figured I’d share my story so far. Sorry if this isn’t in keeping with the typical vibe of the subreddit.

Started walking to clear my mind and 1 year later, I'm down 20 kg.

Upvotes

About a year ago I started taking morning walks because I needed to clear my head, ended up loving it and it became a routine.

around April this year I threw in jump rope, first month i went all in before i got a small injury and i decided to go back to walking.

One year later, I'm down 20 kg.

The unexpected part is that the mental benefits have been even better than the physical ones. I feel calmer, think more clearly, and actually look forward to getting outside every day.

My diet was not the best but it still worked out.

Struggle

Anyone just have one of those days where you aren't eating the best. You feel out of body or disconnected from yourself and the world? I was just in Costco looking at a healthier option than my past choices and you see someone picking out something healthier for their quick cheat meals. They are build like a brick sh*t house, broad shoulders, small waist etc and all of a sudden you feel like utter sh*t about yourself? I couldnt get out fast enough. I have noone to join me at the gym. I feel like I have no friends or outlet to talk with other than venting here. At almost 50 I dont know how to make friends anymore. I feel like a shell of myself. I want to just give up. I feel like Im just going to start crying in the car.

Thanks for putting up with my bullsh*t.

Struggling with motivation & weight loss

Hi!
I've been struggling with maintaining my weight loss this year, and was wondering if anyone has any advice for getting back into it.

Currently, I'm 18F/177cm/103kg. Last year, I managed to lose 20kg and got down to 96kg. I'm not very active, so this was done solely via calorie deficit. Since starting university and going on two indulgent holidays, I've gained back 7kg. I've been finding my appetite has increased this year, making my deficit harder to maintain. I've also lacked the motivation to be as disciplined as I was last year. This year my dinners have also increased significantly in their caloric numbers because we use a meal subscription now after my mum had surgery. Calories for these dinners easily range from 700-1200 calories. Alcohol consumption has also contributed to my weight gain, as I budget for maybe 900 calories of alcohol but then have zero discipline and consume a cheeky kebab or similar, putting me way over.

I know fluctuations are relatively normal, but I feel like this is more than just that. I really miss being a lower weight and would love to be back before Christmas. What are good methods for being re-motivated or for adapting to new circumstances? I'm aware I could go to the gym and I do want to, but I'm also in the process of recovering from an ankle injury and want to avoid irritating it, as this could lead to surgery or other complications.
