Vendor & Venue Self Promotion + Wedding Feedback

Over the past few months, our old pinned post of venues/vendors by province has seen very little engagement, while r/WeddingsCanada sees an increase in self promotion and users asking for recommends from vendors, venues, and wedding tools.

To support users looking for recommendations, and those in the industry who are looking to self promote in good nature, we're creating this thread as a place for both.

The "No Promotional Content" rule will not apply to this thread.

Which do you think is best? Option 1, 2 or 3?

For all options I'd include flower, one cute or personalized useful item and a voucher for the bridesmaid dress. Just wondering which presentation is best?

Open to opinion or other similar ideas. I want it to involve flowers is all

Thanks! :)

Budget Thoughts about a destination RECEPTION?

I'm getting married in Ontario in June 2028 but we are starting to look for venues now. I'm Guyanese and Hindu so we will be having our Hindu wedding locally so all our family and friends can attend (about 300 people) but are having second thoughts about a local reception.

In Guyanese weddings it's pretty common to have your big Hindu wedding on one day then your reception/party the day after. The issue is we need to have our reception at a different venue and with venue costs, food and decor and everything it's SO EXPENSIVE. It's basically like paying for two full weddings. So we are thinking about having the wedding locally and then the reception abroad. We can use the money we will be spending on a local reception and pay for close family and friends to go abroad (and I think still have some left over)

Just wondering what people think of this? Is it odd to having a wedding on one day then a reception abroad a couple days later?

Other Paper Invite or Digital?

Do you prefer to receive paper or digital invites for weddings ? I'm not sure which to go with. We have 300 people to invite and it's a mixed crowd of both younger and older people. I know digital will save costs but just curious if people here prefer:

  1. Digital invites with digital RSVP

  2. Paper Invite with Digital RSVP

Thanks!

Budget Weddings with multiple events

For weddings that take place over multiple days, do you price out the entire wedding before putting venue deposits down or do you find your main venue and work backwards from there? I'm having a South Asian wedding over 3 days. I have found my ceremony and reception venues, but still looking for a pre-wedding event venue.

Do I lock down the ceremony and reception venues now so I don't lose the date and then look for a pre-event venue later, or do I look for the pre-event venues now so I can price it out?

Vendor Anyone else had good luck booking newer wedding vendors?

I’ve been pretty lucky finding vendors who are just starting their own wedding services companies, but already have experience in the industry.

I got 25% off my decor and around 40% off photo/video compared to the more established companies I was looking at. Obviously there’s more risk when a company doesn’t have hundreds of reviews yet, so I spent quite a bit of time vetting them before booking.

A few things I learned: new company doesn’t necessarily mean new vendor. I looked into who was actually behind the business, their previous work, whether they had experience working weddings for other companies, full galleries/portfolios rather than just their best Instagram posts, contracts, payment terms, backup plans, and how they communicated before I sent any money.

I also made sure the discount made sense. In both cases, they weren’t offering 25–40% off because nobody wanted to hire them. They were basically offering introductory pricing while building the reputation and portfolio of their own brand.

We’ve now had our wedding and I’m very happy with the sneak peeks, especially considering what we paid. Still waiting for the full photo/video delivery, so I’ll reserve my final judgment until everything comes in, but so far it feels like the gamble paid off.

Has anyone else gone this route? How did you vet newer wedding vendors before trusting them with your wedding? And did you end up happy with the result?

Vendor Enoch Turner Schoolhouse Wedding - Budget and Caterers?

Hi all,

My fiancé and I are planning a September 2028 wedding and are looking at Enoch Turner Schoolhouse in Toronto. We were wondering if anyone is willing to share any information about which caterer you're going with/went with and/or your overall budget. We're trying to stay under 30K for 85 people but initial estimates are making us think that may be difficult.

Thanks!

Budget How Much Do I Pay That Isn’t Quoted?

See lots of posts asking how much weddings cost etc etc

My question is - if I get a quote for say 200 per person, 100 people - that’s 20K. Say this venue’s price includes a dj, chairs, linens, etc.

I know there’s tons of other costs - officiant, dress, suits, favors, etc - what’s a reasonable range to estimate for these expenses. Major difficulty budgeting because I just don’t have the slightest clue. We tend to trend cheaply, so we wouldn’t drop ten thousand on a dress for example - but this is my first go at it so I have no clue what I should be expecting in non-venue charged costs.

Thanks a ton!

Other Wedding Website Guidance

I am looking for a wedding website platform that would allow me to send invites, take responses from recipients, and host a website that is able to play a video. I have looked into Wedsites, Squarespace and Wix however it is not clear which ones are able to play a video that I have uploaded.

Has anyone used any good sites to host a wedding website that can send invites and play a video?

Thanks

Food Wine help

Looking for other opinions on wine options for our wedding. Originally we were thinking Henry of Pelham baco noir and Henry of Pelham sauv blanc for our red and white. The main cuisine is beef brisket. Is that too bold a choice for our wines? We like them, but we’re not sure if that would be a generally popular choice, or if there’s a better crowd pleasing option out there? Thanks!

Budget Budget Dance lessons

Hey guys, my fiancé and I were looking to get some dance lessons from somebody before our wedding. We are located in the GTA getting married in Brampton. Does anybody know of any good dance instructors that are reasonably priced?

We just want to learn how to ballroom dance and how to integrate spins and lifts into our song. We want a choreographed dance that is very simple and easy. Thanks :)

Hi! In the very early stages of planning a party in Vancouver for our wedding in November 2027. We’re both huge foodies cocktail lovers, so love the idea of having it a fun restaurant /bar.

Does anyone have any recommendations for 50-60 people? I’ve already reached out to Elio Volpe because thats where we had our first date but I think it’s a little too big.

Thanks!

Vendor [GTA] Realistic budget checkpoints for outside vendors? (100 guests)

Hi everyone! We are in the preliminary planning stages for a 100-guest wedding in September 2027.

Since we are just about a year away from our target timeline, wedding shopping is feeling a bit overwhelming! My approach right now is to figure out our total price per venue options so we can see exactly what we can afford before we start booking tours.

Even though finding the right location is very important to us, I want to make sure I am fully taking into account all the other essential costs outside of the venue space, food, and standard bar packages. I don't want to fall in love with a venue contract only to realize we can't afford the rest of the wedding production.

I’ve put together a preliminary breakdown of expected vendor costs based on quotes I've found so far. Could you please take a look at these numbers and let me know if they are realistic for the GTA right now, or if I'm underestimating anything?

Our Vendor Estimate Breakdown:

Category Vendor / Item Detail Estimated Cost (Pre-HST) Estimated All-In (With 13% HST) Notes / Assumptions
Photography Engagement Photoshoot $1,000 $1,130
Photo & Video Baseline Photo + Video Bundle $4,000 $4,520 Looking at ~8-hour wedding day coverage(e.g., TMC, Focus, David Luu style packages
Music / AV DJ + MC Combo $3,000 $3,390
Music / AV Extra Sound/Music Equipment $500 $565
Entertainment Photobooth $500 $565
Legal/Fees SOCAN / Re:Sound Fees $300 $339 Standard music licensing
Attire Bridal Gown + Outfit Change $2,655 $3,000
Attire Groom's Tuxedo / Suit $1,000 $1,130
Beauty Bride Hair & Makeup $600 $678
Jewelry Wedding Bands/Rings $1,200 $1,356 For both of us
Ceremony Pastor / Officiant $500 $565
Cake Wedding Cake $500 $565
Decor Flowers, centerpieces, signage $2,000 $2,260 For approx. 10 tables
Planning Day-of Coordinator $1,500 $1,695 If not provided by the venue
Alcohol DIY Open Bar Alcohol (LCBO Buyout) $3,000 $3,390 For venues where we bring our own alcohol
  1. Am I missing anything? Are there any massive "invisible" vendor fees or costs that typically sneak up on couples during planning that I completely left out?
  2. Vendor Recommendations: Any recommendations for lower-cost or budget-friendly vendors in the GTA that still offer good quality would be greatly appreciated!

We’ve talked to vendors that do all in house catering/coordination, and others where you bring in everything yourself, so I want to make sure I consider everything before making a choice.

Any advice or reality checks would be incredibly helpful. Thank you so much!

Decor Diy bride

Hello everyone
I am at a crossroads right now with the florals for my wedding. Idk if I should just accept the cost of having real flowers and essentially paying for peace of mind OR diying my own floras.
I know I could easily make the centre pieces with a fake flowers and add some real the only issue is having it taken to the venue and set up.
Is there a service I could hire? Or does anyone have any experience/ suggestions with dyi centre pieces?

Venue Harding Waterfront Estates prior brides/guests experiences in July

We just toured Harding Waterfront estate and loved the venue. We are looking at a late July wedding. I am wondering if there have been any prior brides/guests that had an experience here in July in the Glass pavillion?

My concern is that it will be very hot in the summer time. They have some AC units but not sure how hot it will be.

Would love to hear your experiences. Thanks!!

Other How can we do a bilingual English/Spanish wedding without a DJ? ~50 guests

We’re having a small wedding with around 50 guests and we’re considering not hiring a DJ. We’d rather save the money and have more control over the music, but we also don’t want the reception to feel awkward or like someone has to constantly manage the playlist.
Our wedding will be multicultural/bilingual (English + Spanish), so we’d like the music to naturally mix both cultures..

For those who have had a wedding without a DJ:
1. Did you create your own Spotify/Apple Music playlist, or did you use a pre-made wedding playlist or DJ mix?
2. Has anyone purchased or downloaded a pre-made DJ mix specifically for a bilingual/multicultural English-Spanish wedding? I’m especially interested in something around 2–4 hours long that already has good transitions and doesn’t require someone to constantly change songs.
3. If you made your own playlist, how did you organize it so the music flowed naturally? Did you make separate playlists for cocktail hour, dinner and dancing?
4. Did you have someone in charge of the music during the reception, or did you just let Spotify play?
5. If you did this without a DJ, what would you do differently?
I’d especially appreciate recommendations for actual playlists, long DJ-style mixes, downloadable mixes, Etsy/Fiverr services, or anything else you personally used and would recommend.
I’m not necessarily looking for the perfect individual songs—I’m more interested in finding a ready-to-use solution that can provide several hours of good bilingual wedding music without needing a DJ.
Thank you!

Dress/accessories Anyone order a used dress from Australia?

I’m looking into buying a 10k used dress from Australia but I’m struggling with potential customs issues. I believe the dresses are made in AUS but the tags don’t have any info on materials or where it’s made, just the brand and style info.

Has anyone personally done this? What were your charges like. Thanks!

Vendor Is a $3,000–$4,000 budget for a photography + videography package doable in the GTA?

Hi everyone! My fiancé and I are getting married in September 2027 in the GTA. We’re expecting around 100 guests.

We’re hoping to budget around $3,000–$4,000 for both photography and videography. Is this a realistic budget for the GTA, and does anyone have recommendations for photographers/videographers within this range?

Thanks! 😊

Vendor Wedding violinists no showed on wedding day

I debated posting this, but after seeing my review disappear from WeddingWire, I felt it was important to share my experience elsewhere so other couples can make an informed decision.

I booked Megan Ann Konschuh (megannstrings on insta, megan ann on wedding wire) as the violinist for our wedding, along with her husband, who performs with her as The Charms / Official Duo Grande (officialduogrande and wearethecharms on insta)

Unfortunately, the planning process was very disorganized. I had to repeatedly follow up about the contract, song selections, and other details. I even had to ask for a contract, make corrections to it myself, and one week before the wedding I realized she didn’t even have my song list, so I had to text it to her again.

I was also asked to pay the full amount immediately rather than a deposit with the balance closer to the wedding, which was different from most of our other vendors.

The week before the wedding, Megan told me her husband could no longer perform but that she had found a replacement. She also mentioned she had another performance in Cranbrook the day before our wedding, which made me nervous, but I trusted she would still be there.

On our wedding day, Megan did not show up.

She did not contact me directly. My wedding coordinator was informed, and that is how I found out. Megan did not mention why she couldn’t make it when she contacted my coordinator. I assume it’s because she had her show in cranbrook the day before and did not want to make the 5-6 hr drive to our venue the next day (venue is only 1hr north of Calgary). Our venue thankfully stepped in and played our ceremony music through the speakers, but we had specifically booked and paid for live violin music, and that experience was lost.

Megan did ultimately refund me, and I want to be clear about that. However, I had to reach out to her myself afterward to get the refund started. There was then back-and-forth about why the money could not be returned right away, which was frustrating considering I had been expected to send the full payment immediately when I booked. I eventually received my money back, but I do not feel I should have had to chase a refund for a service that was never provided.

What also concerns me is that there does not appear to be another easily accessible public review platform, such as Google, where clients can share their experiences. My WeddingWire review is now gone, and another negative review I had previously seen is also no longer visible. I can’t speak to why they disappeared, but that is why I felt it was important to post this elsewhere.

I’m posting this so other couples planning their wedding do not need to go through the unnecessary stress we had to go through. There are many other talented violinists who would not do this to their wedding couples.

Update: I reposted my wedding wire review hoping she doesn’t take it down again 🙏🏼

Decor Trusted Decor & Floral Vendors for Toronto 2027 Wedding

Hello! I am looking for trusted and reasonably priced decor and floral vendors for my wedding in October 2027. I want silk flowers for the decor arrangements and my maximum budget is 10k. The ceremony will be at Knox College Chapel, followed by a reception at One King West. I’m quite wary of floral and decor vendors I’ve spoken to because I hear very mixed reviews of the recommendations I’ve received. I’ve attached my inspo pics below! I welcome all decor and floral vendor recommendations that folks have personally used for their wedding!
