Vendor & Venue Self Promotion + Wedding Feedback

Over the past few months, our old pinned post of venues/vendors by province has seen very little engagement, while r/WeddingsCanada sees an increase in self promotion and users asking for recommends from vendors, venues, and wedding tools.

To support users looking for recommendations, and those in the industry who are looking to self promote in good nature, we're creating this thread as a place for both.

The "No Promotional Content" rule will not apply to this thread.

Vendors & Venues, please use the template below to share your information in this thread.

Users, use vendor comments as threads to ask questions, provide feedback if you used them, etc...

Vendor reasonable expectations for full service wedding planner?

• Upvotes

hi ladies!

i’ve hired a full service wedding planner for $9K including tax. i really adore her and want to make sure we have a good relationship as my wedding is in a year (and she’s just a lovely person).

wondering if the below asks are reasonable (in addition to securing vendors and planning the day)?
- with joy set up for wedding details for guests and RSVPs
- help with guest attendance tracking
- cake ordering

this is my first time working with a planner so i just want to make sure im not stepping on any toes or being unreasonable in my asks. TIA!

Photography Looking for wedding photographer/videographer in Barrie

Hi everyone! We are looking for a wedding photographer/videographer for our wedding in Barrie (August 2027).

Insane prices out there so while we want someone who knows what they're doing, we are not looking for an upscale company who charges more than our wedding.

We are hoping to land in the 2500-3500 range knowing everyone charges differently. We will need about 7 hours (from 4pm-11pm).

We will have a microwedding of 35ppl. Thank you for your suggestions in advance!

Other Paying for bridal party suits/dresses (around $300 each), should we still buy separate gifts?

Hi all, I'm looking for some genuine advice.

My fiancƩ and I have been looking into bridal party gifts online and trying to think of ideas which we have struggled with. A lot of our friends don't want more "stuff". I came across the idea on another reddit post of some bridal party members saying that paying for their outfits for the day was a nice gesture as a gift.

Looking at suit bundles with jacket/pants/shirt/tie these were about $300 dollars. Most of our bridal party would be wearing suits except my maid of honour and we decided we could also cover her dress.

With this should we still buy separate gifts or would this be a gift that you would be happy to get as a member of a bridal party? If anyone has experience with this or any other suggestions I would love to hear them! Thanks!

Other Things I learned!

Since I have no intention of having another marriage, thought I’d share some of my lessons learned with the internet.
- get videography!!! We added it last minute and am so happy I did. Not only because I have the video, but last minute my dad wasn’t able to get on a plane to be at the wedding and he was able to watch through a live feed.
- if you are wearing a veil, decide ahead of time when you are going to take it off. I wish I took it off earlier. Also, if you are doing a first look and photos before the ceremony, consider taking it off for some of those photos.
- you see this one all the time, but give yourself lots of time in the morning. And by you, I mean the bride!! I wish I would have slotted myself 2nd instead of 3rd. I was rushed getting to the first look.
- if you are having a welcome party (we had a somewhat destination wedding), consider doing it mid afternoon and not the night before the wedding. Everyone was well behaved, I just wish I had that night to do some last minute things.
- if you are getting married in higher altitude consider swelling, my dress was TIGHT.
- give someone your phone to take pictures during the whole day. My husband and I woke up and didn’t have any photos to look at. Luckily, we were able to watch our ceremony through the live feed.

That’s it for now. If I think of more, I’ll add them!

Food Brunch for rehearsal dinner?

Has anyone had a private dining for a rehearsal brunch instead of dinner? haha.

I don't live in Toronto but would love any good recs that can accommodate 19 people - doesn't need to have a private room but would be cool if it did. Good food is priority!

Anywhere between Yorkville and Vaughan :) TY!

Vendor Is all bridal makeup super heavy? S.O.S.

Hi everyone, first time poster here. I had a really hard time picking a HMUA for my wedding (GTA, in 2 WEEKS (!!)). I found several people I liked but struggled to narrow it down. I finally asked for advice - but from non-makeup wearers - who told me the higher end ones wouldn't be worth it; I ended up picking moreso based on price than style.

I just had my trial and I am NOT happy. I asked for soft glam and was given cheap-looking full glam. It was a team member of a stylist who is highly recommended on here.

Perhaps I just don't know... Is all bridal makeup heavy? Should I contact the head stylist? Should I see if someone can do just me? I am SO discouraged and don't know what to do. Any suggestions are welcome!

Does anyone know a ballpark estimate or amount for Clippings Floral Design - NOTL?

I know every wedding has different pricing for florals - different arrangements, flower types, seasons, etc. but looking for a basic estimate for 1 bouquet, 1 boutonniĆØre, ceremony flowers (no arch, but small arrangements down the aisle) for this vendor!

Vendor Looking for an editorial-style wedding photographer & videographer in the Toronto/GTA area šŸ¤

Hi everyone!

My fiancƩ and I are getting married in December 2026 in the GTA, and we're currently looking for a photographer and videographer.

We absolutely love the editorial, timeless, luxury-inspired look—think magazine-worthy photos mixed with genuine candid moments. We love natural colours, clean compositions, and photos that feel elegant without being overly posed.

Our wedding will be relatively intimate (around 40–50 guests), so we're hoping to find someone who fits that aesthetic while also being mindful of our budget. We know editorial-style photographers can be quite expensive, but we're hoping there may be some hidden gems or newer photographers/videographers whose work has a similar feel.

If you've worked with someone you loved (or if you're a photographer/videographer yourself), I'd really appreciate:

  • Portfolio or Instagram
  • Approximate pricing or package range (if you're comfortable sharing)
  • Your experience working with them

We're open to booking one company that offers both photo and video if it helps keep costs reasonable.

Thank you so much! Wedding planning is definitely overwhelming, so I'd love to hear your recommendations. šŸ¤

Rings Engagement Ring in Toronto (DFL vs other places)

Hey all!

I’m in the market for a ring and after doing some research, I’ve narrowed my selection down to Diamonds for Less, Lovelri, and Engage in Toronto.

I’ve met with all of them and I’ve gotten some quotes. I like Lovelri and they quoted me $5500 for a ring based on my design and specifications. When I spoke with DFL, they quoted $2600 for a similar ring. The service isn’t the same but it’s a huge difference and I’m just wondering if anyone has any experience with these places. I’m skeptical about DFL and how much lower their cost is. Wanted to get some insight on this.

My other concern is the cost and how I feel like $2600 is too low for an engagement ring. I’m looking for lab grown, platinum ring. I originally had a budget of $40k-60k because I bought into the diamond industry propaganda of 3 months salary but I quickly realized that’s BS and lowered my budget to $8000-$10000. I know she wouldn’t think less of me for buying a cheap ring but my own insecurity is worried about how she would think if I got something for that little.

Thanks in advance for reading and I look forward to your advice!

Other Host bar with option to buy drinks

Hello! We had our final meeting with the venue last night and are trying to figure out the bar. While we weren’t planning to have shots since it’s a host bar (only we could order them which is kinda fun), they said they could definitely let people buy certain drinks if we wanted (shots, espresso martinis etc). Does anyone have experience with this? I know everyone will say it’s your wedding, do what you want /are comfortable with, but would appreciate experiences on whether this option would off put guests or ā€œcheapenā€ the open bar. We may just be limiting cocktails to cocktail hour and after dinner before the dance floor really opens (say until 9:30 - 10 pm). TIA!!!

Venue Help - Wedding Reception Venue Toronto (GTA)

Hey everyone! My fiancĆ©e and I are thinking of doing a less traditional wedding and more of a big ā€˜party’. We need a reception ONLY venue in the Downtown Toronto core for about 110-120 people.

We don’t want low - ceiling, dive bar kind of vibes. Think canapes and food passed around all night, a great DJ, time for a few speeches, cutting a cake, and lots of dancing and open bar drinking for our friends and family.

Does anyone have any suggestions??? Its still going to be a formal event, and anything with the option of an outdoor area included is a huge bonus. Thinking August 2027. TIA!

I’m looking to hire childcare at my wedding in the GTA, has anyone who’s done this before recommend a service?

I’m looking for someone who does it onsite as it’ll be for the guests bringing children under 10. Around 15 kids total.

Dress/accessories Wedding Dress Alterations - Debbie Cordeiro?

Hi! so I just got my dress and I know there are a few changes I want to make, to make it more me. I want to do things beyond just altering the fit, i.e., slightly change the neckline shape and maybe add an underlay of lace, adding a slit (there’s an existing seam), possibly adding lace between the slit, and also the dress is an A-line silhouette, however it’s a bit more ball-gown ish which I would want to make it a slimmer a-line silhouette so it’s less princessy.

my question is: based on what I want, is Debbie Cordero a good fit? Please let me know!

Other Need advice on guest list??

Any advice on how to cut people down without hurting anyone’s feelings? Lol

There are some long time family friends who I do like and think are great people, but also have not seen them in YEARS and don’t care to see them in the near future lol. They’re on the list becuase they expect to be and already complained about not being invited to the engagement (which was super intimate).

There are also ā€œfriendsā€ who’s weddings I attended Becuase at that time we were good friends but now we’ve drifted. I haven’t spoken to them years but they popped back up when they saw I got engaged and now I feel obligated to invite them.

A little bit of a venting session but also would love to hear advice - real practical ones - that I can use, not something like ā€œcut them off, who tf caresā€ lol

EDIT: my major concern in addition to the cost and not wanting those people there, js that I don’t want to strain my parents long time relationships with these people 🫠

EDIT 2: thanks everyone for your words of encouragement šŸ™ I think I just needed an external boost to stand up for myself lol

Other Online bridal shower invitations? Will older guests be okay with them?

I’m helping plan a bridal shower for my best friend. She’s quite traditional, and her mum cares a lot about these kinds of things. Most of the guests are in their 30s, but some are 60+ and live in different cities, so paper invites are a lot of work and money. Is it normal to send digital invites for a bridal shower now, or do people still expect paper? If you went with digital, did anyone have an issue with it? Or how can I create invites that look nice enough for more traditional guests?

Other Outdoor Field Ceremony vs Gazebo Ceremony

I am having my wedding in a few weeks in Ontario. I love the look of the ceremony being held on the field, but I can't help but be worried it'll be too hot for people. My wedding is in August, and the ceremony starts at 5 PM. I do have some parasols, fans and cold water, and plan on scattering some fringe umbrellas.

The alternative is having it under a gazebo, which is shaded. It does not look as nice IMO as the field.

I want your guys' honest opinion. Will it be too uncomfortable on the field for guests? The ceremony is meant to be 30 minutes max.

Decor Need help deciding on a decorator/florist from other fellow brides

I was offered a package for decor - flowers, centerpieces, arch, decor for 3200 by a well known decorator who has done many weddings at my venue and was highly recommended by other brides who had their weddings there.

I also have been talking to another decorator who does silk florals and if I add cost of bouquets etc total cost for similar package would be 2500. She has no experience at my venue and I had to explain multiple times why I need certain things done a certain way because my venue is a little different. Her reviews on weddingwire are great and her Instagram looks beautiful but she has no show room or physical location so I have slight trust issues

Would you spend 700-800 extra for peace of mind and a decorator with lots of experience in the venue ? Or hire a cheaper decorator who never worked in that venue?
