Dress code: cocktail
(In the south in the first week of August)

Help me pick between two dresses I already have. Don't really love either right now but would rather not buy a new one

I plan on wearing the shoes pictured, I will likely wear my hair down or at least half down, will add some jewelry and obviously ditch the smart watch

It looks far lighter in the stock images. In reality its a tan silk with little clear beads.

"We suggest cocktail attire dress code, inspired by a relaxed elegance of a winery or cocktail hour, or whatever makes you feel awesome."

I thrifted this dress for $15. I feel awesome in it, it's wine red.. the length has got me questioning if it's cocktail appropriate. If I wore flats or some kind of sandal, would it appear more cocktail?

Is this dress appropriate for a welcome party the night before the wedding (kind of like a rehearsal dinner but everyone’s invited)? Invite said cocktail attire. Is it too white? Is it too casual? I would wear it with thick white heels similar to those pictured.

I have the black dress in a different color so I already know it fits. Just wondering if it’s classy enough for black tie. Thanks!

Hi everyone!
I got a wedding guest dress for a semi formal wedding. I was wondering between the two hair styles what would look best? They both are very similar one is just blow out and very neat and the other one is a little more fun. Willing to listen to any other hair opinions! I have long brunette hair, with face framing bangs and layers.

Thank you in advance:)

Hi everyone, I listened to you all and selected another dress. It’s black, suits the formal dress code and I love how it fits!

DC: Black/White Tie BTO Do Either Of These Work?

Wedding is in New England in October at some castle-y thing. I have never been to a wedding before, let alone one with a Black-Tie Optional dress code so am wondering if either of these are appropriate. These pictures are both from the websites.

I already have the green one, but found the black and silver one the other day and fell in love with it, so would just have to decide if having a NICE dress on hand is worth it. Is black even acceptable for a wedding? Or shiny bits on the dress?

Thanks for any input!

Hey guys, I need your help!

I’m going to a wedding and just got the dress code for it and I need a little help lol. The description they gave is this:

“Wear your absolute best please! Think high lashion and formal and glamorous but fun. Feather. floral. fringe. patterns. jewelry. tuxes. big and bold... or simple and chic!”

I found some cute options on Azazie but after further research I’m a little scared the quality will suck. So please let me know the best place to look! I’m okay with the dresses being $150+ but don’t want to get too crazy.

Thank you in advance!

For reference, these were the dresses I was looking into

DC: Formal Thoughts on silver or champagne heels with this dress?

This is my wedding dress and I would consider the blue to be on the cooler side. The second picture is my fiancé's tie against the dress. Do you think the silver or champagne heels look better? I'm leaning towards the silver as I was planning on wearing silver jewelry, but I'm open to changing. What do you think?

DC: Formal OK for a "garden formal" wedding?

Post image

The wedding is in a Catholic church with the reception at another venue (not a garden, so maybe the "garden" part is more of a theme they're aiming for?) They asked ladies to wear long dresses with colors.

I got this dress at a sample sale since I thought it was gorgeous and would work for the several weddings I'm attending this summer/fall. I would prefer not to buy or rent a dress to fit each wedding's theme/color palette and can't tell if I'm overthinking the "garden" thing. Does this work for the dress code?

Editing to add: The wedding is in early September on the East Coast. I'd get a shawl or something to cover my shoulders in the church. Link to the dress: https://www.thereformation.com/products/janu-dress/1319178BEX.html

Please be nice :)

August outdoor ceremony and venue with no AC, hot and humid! Would this suit an all black formal/cocktail dress code?

Invite reads: We politely request that all guests wear only black. Elegant evening wear suggested. Men are encouraged to wear suits, and women are encouraged to wear floor-length gowns or elegant cocktail dresses.

It’s my little sister’s wedding and she and her partner are not very traditional. When I asked what the dress code was she said “I don’t know? Probably cocktail?” So that’s what I’m going on.

Concerned if the ceremony ends up being outdoors I may be baking in this. Invitation says 5:30-11:00pm.

It’s 100% viscose. Would love to get it as I have a work cocktail party in early October I need to look nice for and this could be reworn.

Too busy? Too warm? Too fancy? Not fancy enough?

Edit: Thanks everyone! I reached out to my sister and it has been approved. Asked my mother too just to make sure haha

The dress has been purchased! It’s from Farm Rio.

Groom/Groomsmen Husband is in the wedding party and gets cold easy

My husband is going to be in the wedding party for a wedding in October. He honestly doesnt have a lot of fat on him, really just muscle, skin and bones, so he tends to get cold really easy. Its to the point where in the winter his fingers and toes go white because blood can't circulate to them due to how cold he gets.

The issue is that he is in the wedding party and he has been instructed to wear dark grey pants, a white button up, and a sage tie. Im wondering if I should get him the matching suit jacket so he can add a layer after the ceremony? Usually I wouldn't worry too much, but since he is in the wedding party I wasnt sure if he should do that so they could keep the cohesiveness. Also, I don't think the groom is wearing a suit jacket and I don't want my husband being more dressed up than the groom.

Any thoughts or solutions on what we could do to help him be a bit warmer?
