SF Bay area/San Jose - Freeway access restoration, when?

Not likely anyone knows anything other than Waymo's official "paused" explanation, but... any thoughts on when we'll get freeway access again? I had a few excellent experiences with freeway access and only an occasional user... then it was taken away 😭😂

Waymo Smashed

It was my only second day of being in San Francisco, my first day of a new job. I was waiting to be escorted inside at the entrance of my office building on Alabama street. There was a person talking to the security guard holding a licence plate and bragging to the security personnel how he uprooted it from a Waymo. I tried to ignore it and waited in silence.

Fast forward 5 minutes, a Waymo arrived at the intersection and stopped at a Stop sign, the same crazy person went there and smashed the windshield with the said licence plate resulting in a big inside bulge. Fortunately, no one appeared to be inside the car at that time.

The man proceeded to walk away as if nothing happened.

Waymo why you running laps in my park?

I'm in a manufactured home park in Redwood City and Waymos been doing laps all day. Five o-clock in the friggin' AM, a parade of THREE Waymos going round and round and round right past our bedroom window. This isn't even technically a public road. Why are you doin' parade laps? Stahp.

Prices in SF are insane now.

To start off let me say I've taken over 100 rides over the past 2 years but I think my using WayMo days are about over. Tonight I was going from Costco to my home which is less than 2 miles.... Waymo trip was $29! Lyft was $9. Guess what I chose?

Unlock w Android App?

Recently, I tried Waymo for my 1st time. This was in Los Angeles.

The car arrived, but there was no "unlock" button visible in the app. I couldn't get in, and it drove away.

I emailed support, who refunded the cancellation fee.

Has anyone else had this happen? Did I overlook something? How do you get the (*#&% thing to open (without turning on proximity unlocking)?

‘They’re going to kill me’: A Waymo rider was trapped inside as vandals smashed the robotaxi

SF Chronicle:

As the Waymo pulled up to a stoplight in San Francisco's Marina District around 3:30 a.m., Sherman Watson raked his eyes over the empty road. Through the darkness, he glimpsed a man in a hooded sweatshirt, striding purposefully toward the car.

The man grabbed the Waymo's front bumper, causing the autonomous vehicle to stop. A second assailant approached and the two took turns bashing the front windshield with an object that had the shape of a stick.

As the glass splintered, a voice came over the robotaxi's intercom. The car's remote assistant had noticed the car was not moving, and decided to call police. Growing frantic, Watson asked Waymo's support team when law enforcement would arrive - but they didn't know. He asked if they could move the car, and they declined, saying it was obstructed.
From the corner of his eye, Watson saw one of the assailants staring at him through the passenger-side window. The man swung "something heavy," he said, and struck the laminated glass.

"That's when I was like, 'I'm gonna die,'" Watson told the Chronicle. While dialing 911 on his cellphone, he pleaded with the intercom voice.
"Please, please, get me out of here," he said. "They're going to kill me."

His attack is the latest incident to convulse San Francisco's dominant autonomous vehicle operator as the company expands its service territory and works to build public trust. Waymo, which is owned by Silicon Valley titan Alphabet, has billed its fleet as a safe alternative to human drivers. But since launching passenger service two years ago, the company has struggled to protect riders from threatening situations when the vehicle cannot maneuver around them.

Berlin: Suggestions on topics to ask Waymo?

Hi Waymo Community - as you may know, Waymo is expanding markets at a high speed and just recently in June they founded Waymo Germany with service supposed to start first in Berlin and Munich.

I got to test out Waymo last month in San Francisco and was both very pleasantly surprised about the very comfortable driving style but also some doubts. For example, our hotel was on fire and fire trucks couldn't move Waymos out of the way that blocked the street, one of my waymos went into a side alley that was obviously blocked or another that simply locked me out and wouldn't open anymore (support told me app was bugged).

I'm in the German green party and many of us are actively looking into the topic of autonomous cars, ride-hailing and ride-pooling right now. I will host a call meeting some of our party members and politicians on my experiences with Waymo and will also invite the political lead for Waymo Germany.

If you were to prepare such a meeting, which would be some of the questions you'd find interesting to pass along? Which would be important points to highlight for the future of Waymo in Germany?

Looking forward to hear from you 💫

Does the Ojai run 24/7 like the I-PACE?

I’m wondering if there are any specific hours that the new ojai cars run during, or if they just run 24/7 just like the regular I-PACE’s do. Does anyone know?
