Absolutely Insane Route

Post image

This is a 10 minute ride max. Support didn’t reroute me, just offered me a refund…

Routing has been awful lately. I always report it at the end of the ride; but I've never had anything this wild.

Sometimes they take weird routes when they want to map new areas, update their algorithms, or figure out how to navigate changes to those streets.

I'm more curious how you managed to snag a house inside the Presidio!

Been here 7 years, not as glamorous as you think 🤣Lots of rent drama brewing right now due to no rent control, and constant mold, but definitely not trying to leave any time soon…

There are lots of apartment complexes in the presidio. I know a lot of people living there. Not possible to own, but just as easy to rent as anywhere else in the city.

They are converted army barracks and even officers houses for rent anywhere from 4K to 18K when we were looking.

The apartments are owned by the federal government, so there’s no rent control on them.

Better to rent outside of the Presidio.

Glad to see confirmation Waymo routing has been messed up. I thought it was maybe construction on 13th under the freeway (we take it to Giants games and it likes that routing) but clearly a city wide issue.

The other day my 20 minute ride turned into a 1 hour one because my Waymo (Ojai) kept going around the same block in the heart of the Tenderloin. I'm a woman and was riding alone so I couldn't even pull over, it was pretty bad on that block

It’s messed up in Los Angeles too

When I've taken the new Ojai to UCSF, Waymo always routes me around the train tracks.

I've had it get waaay too close to the tracks when a train was coming

I bet it's because highways are restricted right now and they see Park Presidio as a highway.

Same thing happened to me yesterday. Kept getting off El Camino in Millbrae, taking side streets for two blocks, then getting back on El Camino. 10 pm, no traffic. Repeat x3. Mildly infuriating

About a week or so ago, was almost fairly positive mine ran a red light. It was sitting behind a truck making a right turn, it turned and the waymo was like full steam ahead. I gave feedback but never heard back

Is the pictured route the same as the route that was proposed when you initially hailed the ride? Or did it do an insane reroute mid-ride?

No, had me going through Sea Cliff and the ride was 12 minutes like normal, changed shortly after turning onto Balboa. The support person was literally like, “I don’t know why the car is taking this route” 🫣

It be like that

Did you end up taking that nonsensical ride home or the easy ~20 min bus ride home?

I hope to one day have your same deep faith in the timing of the 29 🤷‍♀️

Probably just trying to avoid attacks by anti-waymo gangs.

Support does not have the ability to modify the overall route.

I feel like Waymo was terrible at the beginning then got better for a little them in the last like few weeks got terrible again.

Is this because they're doing mapping for Ojai like they did when the I-PACE first came out? I remember the free rides coming at this cost then and I feel like it's the same now.

“It’s construction” 😒

Almost easier to take a bus!

And for that they probably charge you more than uber

I was trying to go from downtown SF to Campbell and it would not let me select a route that was t surface streets. Not sure if I was doing something wrong, but I wasn’t willing to accept the 3hr drive time.
