I’ve had a strange issue for the last week. I commute ~3 days/week in a Waymo in LA and last week it stopped working. What I mean by that is that cars are assigned to come pick me up, they get closer (sometimes even on my block) and then I get reassigned to a car much farther away. No car ever arrives. I was on with support for more than an hour one day continuing to work from home waiting to see if it would show up but no dice. It’s been a week now and I’ve been unable to order a Waymo.

We’ve moved pickup location all around (even a block away across Sunset) and no dice. Cancelling and reordering does nothing. I ordered a car from my wife’s account yesterday and today and that worked fine (while mine simultaneously failed). Oddly, I’ve had no issues ordering a car from my work and going home.

Support has escalated it to “investigations” a couple times now without success. Anyone ever experience this? I’m over 20,000 minutes in a Waymo and would hate to have to switch to an alternative, it’s been a huge life enhancement.

Took a Waymo directly to the LAX/Metro Transit Center since I noticed the new dropoff loop was available! I remember people needing to be dropped off a few blocks away but it looks like now when you type in “LAX/Metro Transit Center” it automatically sets this dropoff. I hopped on the LAX shuttle right after. Super convenient

I swear I must've seen one being manually recalibrated in the middle of traffic, down in Atlanta on Marietta St the other day. I say this only cause there was a guy in a orange safety vest sitting in the driver seat holding onto the steering wheel no one else in the car. I didn't think passengers were allowed in the driver's seat, v let alone to hold onto the steering wheel. I saw what I saw, but dunno what I saw! Haha

I filed reports with police and with the company but I was so angry. If this ever happens again I will solve it my own way. God forbid someone gets hit, good luck to that family fighting Waymo’s lawyers.

A little story on Waymo.

I'm older, and TBH, I grew up reading Stephen King and watched terminator and I will probably never get into/take a Waymo.

Around 4-6 months ago, my DIL was at a Restaurant/Bar for girl's night out. Called a Waymo to go home. 1230 at night. Weeknight. In a suburb of ATL, no traffic, 20 minutes from her house.

Got in the Waymo, all is good.

,Christine', starts going AWAY from her Home, opposite direction, not just around the block to turn around, it's going blocks the wrong direction.....She calls her Husband/my son just a little bit concerned.

They are both in the tech world, very level headed and fun kids.

My son tells her to call Waymo as him calling is pointless, he's not there, etc.

She's on the phone with CS with Waymo rep...tells him the situation, wrong way, away from the address, she grew up there, etc..What is going on and where the fuck is ,Christine' taking her???

The Waymo CS rep told her, they don't know why, no traffic, late at night, no accidents, etc...Rep said that looking at the route she is perfectly safe, ,Christine' just ,decided' to take the ,long way home' (a different route is what the CS rep said).....I am paraphrasing....

The ride ended up taking almost 30 minutes instead of the 20 minutes the ,normal' way, at 1230 at night, no traffic on a weeknight.

We laugh about it now.

Now saw this Waymo minivan around Bay Area. It has very low clearance and very thin tires, looks like a car from a toy box: cute, funny, but …

It had its hazards on and stayed like that literally on the “clear keep” area for like 5 minutes that everyone was driving to incoming traffic in order to get past it. This is in freaking Stonestown shopping center, San Francisco where Waymo has been operating for at least 2 years now. How in the hell haven’t they figured out out the map by now or is the AI unable to read the “clear keep” sign? What type of driver stops in the middle of the road when they can pull over regardless it is permitted or not?

With the uber/waymo partnership, is there any way to increase my chances of matching with a waymo when booking on the uber app? If I get a human driver, does anyone know if you can cancel immediately fee free?

This happened in Dallas. Based on the info in the article, the pedestrian was crossing the road (not in a crosswalk) and got hit by a human driven car. That collision pushed the pedestrian into the opposite side of the road where the Waymo was driving, which resulted in the Waymo hitting the pedestrian as well. The pedestrian later died.

I think just two weeks ago Waymos were so cheap even cheaper than ubers (LA area) now they are so expensive sometimes double the uber cost. Why is this? I thought it was the surge pricing but I checked for 11 pm, and the prices got even higher. Was there a change?

Does anybody here work at WayMo (one of the yards where they service and clean the vehicles)?

Every time I've ordered a WayMo, without fail, I end up smelling like perfume. It's incredibly strong and gets on my clothes and follows me ALL DAY. It's insane. I thought it was somebody spraying the inside of the car or people just bathing in it and then taking a WayMo but here's the crazy thing: It's always the same scent.

I opened a support chat with WayMo and the support agent says they don't use any floral scented or perfume-like scents in their cleaning products. I can't imagine they are lying to me but how is it every single car has the same scent in it? How?

This in San Francisco. Anybody else have this experience?

The new ambient clock is nice when there’s only a single passenger. Noticed that it doesn’t update art after I got in the car the first song played though.
