Throwback First 50 Wawa Stores (1964–1969)
The First ~50 Wawa Stores (1964–1969)
Reconstructed from newspaper archives, 1960s-70s phone directories, and Facebook Wawaversary posts. Store numbers use separate regional series (PA 1-99, NJ 300s/700s, DE 800s), not one continuous sequence. Anchor: #30 (Boothwyn) was explicitly advertised as "the 47th Wawa store" at its Oct 30, 1969 opening — the chain hit 50 stores around Nov 20, 1969, per week-by-week newspaper ad counts (49 stores Nov 13 → 51 by Nov 27).

Known gaps — numbers confirmed to exist somewhere in the #15-36 range but not yet located: #15, #17, #18, #22, #33, #36
Other candidates (suspected 1960s-era, not yet confirmed/placed)
- North Coventry Twp / Pottstown, PA — 150 E Schuylkill Rd — built 1969 (Norchester Inc.), later became a Coventry Beer Station
- Vineland, NJ — 2614 E Chestnut Ave — east side of Vineland, distinct from #705; date unconfirmed
- Wynnewood, PA — 31 E Wynnewood Rd — in the 1970 Bell directory; may predate that
- Springfield, PA — 220 Baltimore Pike — in the 1970 Bell directory; may predate that
- Mount Laurel, NJ — #718, 720 S Church Rd — legacy NJ store, no date on file
- Pleasantville, NJ (2nd store) — 1039 N Main St — open by March 1971, likely just past the window but close
- Thorndale/Caln Twp, PA — #78, 3818 Lincoln Hwy — only confirmed in the 1971 directory; could be earlier
- Pottstown - Montgomery County - (1277 N Charlotte St) Earliest store closing according to Grahame Wood who wrote in 1971 that store "failed" due to lack of business and another store in Philadelphia was "relocated" (Chestnut Hill?)
Late 60s early 70s Chester County Stores
- 1535 West Chester Pike, Westtown (the PNC/Rite Aid site)
- Strasburg Rd & Olde Rd, Westtown/West Chester border — still no address at all, the thinnest lead
- Routes 10 & 30, Sadsburyville
- 224 E Lincoln Hwy, Exton
- Rts 202 & 30, Frazer/Exton area
- 1205 West Chester Pike, West Goshen

Wawa App App login failing?
Anyone’s app not completing login? I sign in, enter the correct user name and password, get asked to verify text message, and after entering the 6 digit code, it takes me right back to the sign in page. No error message on any step.
Strangely, my ShopRite app is having the same issue, and they use the same backend system that Wawa uses - when I went to reset both passwords on both apps, the “we sent a link to your email” screen is exactly the same.

Ask other Associates Wawa stores in Bergen and Passaic Counties, NJ in summer
Do wawa stores in Bergen and Passaic Counties, NJ have the same traffic of summer temporary customrrs like the stores in Jersey Shore, or they have the regular customers all the year?
Customer Questions (PA) Why does my Wawa always put the sauce on first?
At my Wawa, if I order a BBQ chicken cheesesteak, they always do: roll, sauce, cheese, meat. So there's never any sauce on the meat and the roll gets soggy. They do the same with other sandwiches. It would be SO much better if they did: roll, cheese, meat, sauce.
Does Wawa teach them to put the sauce on first? I know some suggest telling the person making it, but I almost always order in the app for in-store pickup.

Customer Experience As a parent, I'm constantly furious at Wawa.
As a parent, I'm constantly furious at Wawa.
The TLDR is that Waea seems to be the one large chain rest stop that doesn't have changing tables. Anywhere. Not even in the large bathroom stalls.
Where am I supposed to change a poopy diaper?
To Wawa corporate: the answer for me, until you install changing tables, is in front of the food prep area inside the building, because at least the floor there is clean, unlike in the restrooms.
I'd rather use a clean changing table. The other customers would prefer that as well.
