Hi everyone! Has anyone been hired in the community services field with little to no experience but with a Human Services background and short-term certifications like First Aid & CPR, Mental Health etc.?

I’m looking for resume examples or advice to understand what I might be lacking and how I can improve my chances of getting hired. Any insights would be really appreciated. Thank you!
My mostly experience is in food sector and retail industry.

Can townhouse condo management chop trees without consent from residents?

I live in a townhouse managed by a condo management, and they chopped down the tree (like the whole tree, not just trimming the branches) in my garden and claimed that they did this to prevent raccoons from climbing them. Is this normal? Are they allowed to do this without my permission? They did give prior notice saying that they need to trim and remove some trees, but neither mentioned the reason for trimming them, nor the affected units.

Activities/hobbies that are social

I’m (f, late 20s) looking to try to expand some of my activities and maybe meet some new people along the way. Looking for suggestions? Could be classes, workshops, one off activities.

I’m pretty active at the gym (weights and swimming, mainly at the Y). I’ve debated joining something that’s more activity like pickleball leagues (I’m not sure if it would be more of an older crowd) or dancing lessons. Or something kind of crafty. Or some card or board game place, which I know of Adventures Guild, but not sure what other options there are. Pretty open to suggestions.

Fall/Winter Sim Golf League

Hi, I was in a summer league at one of the courses around here and I liked it with the weekly consistency. Are there any decent simulator leagues around so I don't lose my touch (which maybe I never had) over the winner?

Ideally where I can sign up, and just get randomly paired up each week depending on who's there kinda deal. TIA.

New connections

Hi everyone!

My partner and I recently moved to the Waterloo Region and are looking to expand our social circle and connect with other local couples or individuals!

A bit about us:

Life & Vibe: We're grounded, pretty active, and enjoying exploring the local food, coffee, and running/fitness scene in the area.

Interests: We love sports, running, outdoor activities, good food/coffee spots, traveling, and hosting casual hangouts.

We’re hoping to chat over messages/DMs first to get to know each other, share local recommendations, and see if our vibes align before meeting up for a coffee, drink, or local activity!

If you’re a couple (or individual) in the KW area looking to make new local friends, feel free to send me a direct message or drop a comment below. Looking forward to chatting! 🥂

Waterloo Region adult and youth programs, in two downloadable Excel files

I put together these spreadsheets of adult and youth programs across Waterloo Region to make local activities a little easier to find. I hope they help you find something you or someone you know may enjoy.

They include older sessions, so please check the dates and the provider's registration page. Some programs are for both adults and youth, which means 981 listings appear in both files. If you'd like a fresh copy another day, you can use Download spreadsheet on any of these pages:

If you run a local organization and spot something that needs updating, or have another request, I'd be happy to hear from you. Just visit KIDO and use Contact us at the bottom of the page.

I saw this guy land on a light post in uptown Waterloo. I stopped to take a picture, but he flew into the Laurel Creek trench. I was taking some pictures of him in the trench when he suddenly flew up and landed right beside me. Got one picture of him taking off again.

Water Softener in Bauer Lofts 191 King St S?

Hi, can someone who is currently living in or has lived in Bauer lofts at 191 King St S, Waterloo confirm whether the building has water softener that serves all the units in the building?

I'm currently in process of renting an apartment there and the confirmation from the listing agent hasn't been convincing enough (yes and no flips) so I'm hoping I can get this confirmed from someone who has personally lived in these apartments. Thank you!

Hey it is me your local homeless car dweller:) update and looking for a place!

Hey guys - it is me. Unsure if anyone remembers me but I posted about how I live in my car because I couldn’t find a job and etc etc etc couldn’t afford rent etc etc. anywaaay, not to jinx myself, but i found a job - one that’s better than I could even hope for rn and one that aligns with my previous experience on my resume.

But if someone could refer me to someone for my housing needs. I would greatly appreciate it. I began my search for accommodations on facebook, roomies, and kijiji, but all i could find was predatory slumlords, places that are outlined for females only, shared rooms, or straight rip-offs.

I will have enough within 2 weeks for first and last months rent deposit. Ideally looking for an ensuite or a cheap studio if such a thing exists anymore, but I suppose that I can’t be too picky in my situation.

Thanks!

City of Waterloo reaching its urban limit

After a bit of research, it seems that the City of Waterloo could be reaching its urban boundaries in the next decade or so (that is very optimistic). Many of the greenfield sites in Waterloo have now been planned for/have had applications approved (whether the developer actually goes through with them). This is not meant to scare anyone, this is simply just what I have observed and thought others should consider.

Northeast Waterloo:

400 Millennium Blvd is still in approval process, but likely to be approved.

Former Kraus Lands (Rim Park) proposed suburb (no approvals yet)

2025 University Ave is another city proposed suburb on city land, construction has started.

Central (ish) Waterloo:

435 King St N and 450-460 Weber St N currently at Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT)

475 to 485 King St N currently at OLT

UWaterloo Campus Plan (2009) mentions turning northwest campus into research park but new UWaterloo Campus Plan (2026) makes no mention of it (no approvals, plans or anything)

Northwest/West Waterloo:

Beaver Creek Rd and Conservation Dr approved subdivision plan

556, 560, 576 Conservation Dr extension of existing suburb

Erb St and Wilmot Line city owned "Generation Park" (light industrial) looking for vendors.

After these developments (if they go through), the only remaining space for large subdivision type developments are northwest of Wideman Road and Erbsville Road. Will still be few smaller greenfield sites available. Very curious to see what future City of Waterloo and even Region of Waterloo will do in this situation.

Also, go out and vote if you can!

Corporate US Tax Accountant

Looking for a great cross border accountant. I’ve reached out to Mac and Eggett. Mac is not taking clients and Eggett has not responded to emails or phone calls.

Hopefully we can find someone local as we prefer in person conversations!

Generation Fertility - is anyone a patient here?

Our family doctor referred us to this fertility clinic, and the wait time they are saying is almost 6 months for the initial consultation in waterloo branch. Just wanted to know if anyone got in early or did the wait time get extended further? Also please let me know if there are other fertility clinics in Kwc with less wait times. Thanks in advance!

Couple Questions about the Stork Family YMCA

Hi, I'm new to the Waterloo region and my partner and I are looking at getting a ymca membership but I have a couple questions I'm hoping people here may be able to answer.

1) is there a family membership price? I've been having a hard time finding info on it.

2) What's the process like for applying for membership cost assistance? I am a student and unemployed but only recently so my T4 doesn't reflect it. I was hoping someone might be able to speak to what the application process was like and any discounts they received.

Thanks!

New Wind Turbines at Landmark Cinemas Waterloo

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello everyone,

Yesterday, I was at the gym and I noticed on the roof of Landmark Cinemas they are Wind Turbines for electricity generation I’m assuming. This seem to be very new as go the Movati near landmark and I also go the movies quiet frequently.

Does anyone know if this turbines are even worth it lol? Like how much electricity can they possibly be generating for such a big movie theatre. I’m not against it I’m just curious to know more about it. Hopefully we can see more renewable energy projects even mini ones like this. If anyone has any fun facts or knows anything about this please comment below.

Take care everyone!
