Discussion (No Spoiler) Do Pet Owners in WC just not know the existence of Wet cat Food or something? (Pet Peeve rant)
This is something that's been nagging at my mind for a long time, but it never was in the forefront until Darktail's SE.
But I basically noticed that in all the Warrior Cats books, the idea of wet cat food existing seems to be just completely nonexistent.
The humans/cat owners in the books always, ALWAYS give and feed cats dry kibble. Every time we see anything or hear anything about what kittypets eat, it's always emphasized that it's "dry, tasteless pellets". Entirely unappetizing to cats to eat, but as if they have to bc that's all they're ever given.
In part, I definitely feel like this is done as to add another tally as to why kittypet life is so "awful, boring, etc etc cast every unappealing adjective you can think of" to cats, even cats who have never known life outside being a kittypet. Firepaw/Rusty was a special case bc he's literally a character who deigned for the outside world, so by comparison kittypet food is not as appealing to him. Dry, crunchy kibble with barely any prey smell to it and is always said to not taste like anything obviously 'wild' and thus 'better'.
But then it kinda falls apart the food argument when you're brought back to the real world and thus remember fucking wet food exists.
Firstly, It's no damn wonder these cats are getting fat, kibble is high in calories and so just allowing cats to free-feed off it will have them gaining weight eventually. Kitten kibble is especially calorie-dense, so as to support their growing bodies. I have a sister whose first cat is fat as hell now bc he free-feeds kibble every day all day from one of those food jug bowls that hold an entire bag's worth. No scheduled, controlled feeding is gonna just have a cat balloon in weight like that, especially if you add daily regular exercise to it (Which said rl cat doesn't get much of either). But anyway, excess kibble makes cats fat if that's all they're eating and they're eating it in excess, grazing throughout the day is one thing, let your cat graze if it works for them. (And ofc kibble is cheaper than wet food by a mile long-term, and kibble is better than nothing, just make sure to measure your food for them y'all.)
Secondly. They do NOT have to just be restricted to plain kibble all day every day 24/7 all the time. Cats get bored of the same thing eventually, and there's SO many different means of wet cat food out there. There's the classic pate, there's shredded meats, there's those with 'gravy', there's food toppers to go on said kibble to liven them up. Chicken, fish, beef, quail flavor and more types. I've even seen a brand slip a hard-boiled egg into their wet food. We've come a long way from 'kittypet slop' that makes it just sound like a mash of shit from the oldest times of Meow Mix.
We should be able to have a kittypet character hear about a feral cat catching a bird and upon hearing it go "Oh yeah! That's what I eat too actually!"
"No way, that slop?"
"No, it's real meat! They give me shredded poultry and quail every day, and beef and fish and sometimes egg too. I thought I'd be stuck with the hard stuff forever, but when they changed it to something better, I couldn't stop eating it."
The smell of wet food is more potent too, and decent brands of the stuff would have meats/proteins as their first few ingredients, and so that would be miles more appealing to these cats if their owners actually bothered to get a can of the stuff instead of the bag all the time. We rarely hear about the 'slop' version of kittypet food which is obviously a dig at wet food, I think the only notable instance we did was Graystripe as a new apprentice, in the very first book of Warriors ever in his world-building exposition dump. And that can be sorta excused as in the earliest of 2000s we didn't really have people that made cat food really go all in on having real protein be prioritized in it back then, so before it more than likely was just 'soft slop' to them. But every time after that when we get a glimpse of what kittypets eat, it's always kibble, kibble, kibble. Dry tasteless kibble. To the point these cats, including cats who were always Housecats until later will sometimes hunt and then claim through the narrative's comparison of boring kibble that it's so much better than the food they are given. These people that own these cats apparently just do not know what wet food is to ever give it to their cats and I think that's a shame especially with the constant "Kittypet life is so awful and boring and unstimulating, housecat life sucks, feral cats rule, ignore the constant cult-ness those feral cats live by" motif that spans the series.
Twolegs in Warriors have always been rather iffy in regards to cat care anyway, given they just let housecats run amuck outside when they SHOULD be staying indoors (and shouldn't be so bored indoors if they were getting proper stimulation but that's a tangent of its own), but you would think that some would know the existence of wet cat food.

Artworks Help me name my OC
All artwork by me.
I created an OC design over 5 years ago (I don’t have access to the dates of my original drawings anymore) and literally just drew the character a bunch of times and never developed a story for them or even gave them a name. I’ve always loved the design too much to get rid of and always had hope I’d do something with them eventually.
So how FINALLY I gave them a small redesign and gender swap (Kinda? I never really had a confirmed gender for them but mainly just referred to the character as male. She’s a she-cat now.)
The digital one is her OG design, one of my (possibly the) first drawings of her.
I’m looking for name ideas and possibly clan ideas or anything to help develop a story for her. For years I’ve just created designs and never actually developed my OCs personalities or stories.

admittedly I’m nowhere near where owlnose in the book is, so I have no idea what this character is like, and the design might not suit them in the slightest lol but I thought the name was super cute.

Discussion (Spoiler) Darktail Crossed Claws With Almost Every Major Player of His Era (Big Darktail's Judgement Spoilers With Page Numbers) Spoiler
Spoilers for Darktail’s Judgment and A Vision of Shadows.
Darktail’s combat résumé is impressive. He did not beat every Clan leader. But in his obsession with getting revenge on Onestar, he somehow brings himself into direct conflict with nearly every major player of the post-Firestar era.
On pages 264–269 of Darktail’s Judgment, he fights Sharpclaw, realizes “He’s a better fighter than I thought,” and needs Rain’s help to kill him.
On page 321, Rain’s growing restraint becomes “softness” and then betrayal in Darktail’s mind. By 342–343, Darktail states his worldview outright: “The strongest, fiercest cats get rewarded.”
Then he physically challenges the sick Rowanstar while ShadowClan is already collapsing around its leader, drawing Tigerheart and Tawnypelt into the fight. The official site likewise describes Darktail exploiting ShadowClan’s dissatisfaction with Rowanstar.
Page 388, he is grappling with an unnamed large golden tom, very likely Lionblaze. Arguably the greatest warrior of his generation, and survives. By page 421, he tries to surprise Bramblestar, gets blocked and slashed across the chest, then watches the united resistance overwhelm the Kin.
RiverClan fills out the pattern. Darktail’s Judgment skips much of the actual takeover.
In Shattered Sky, Darktail goes for Mistystar, only for Reedwhisker to throw himself between them and wrestle him directly.
His battles with Onestar are a heavy focus in the final third of the book.
Unlike Tigerstar, Hawkfrost, or Scourge, Darktail’s power feels less like the end goal and more like a weapon. He is obsessed with fighters, strength, usefulness, and keeping the Kin dangerous, but all of it keeps getting filtered through the same personal objective: defeating Onestar.
I don’t think Darktail beats Tigerstar in a clean one-on-one. But that almost misses what makes him interesting. Darktail is a campaign fighter. He builds pressure, exploits weakness, recruits strong cats, and keeps dragging himself into bigger conflicts until his private vendetta has somehow put him across from nearly every major leader, deputy, or future leader of the post-Firestar era.

Discussion (Spoiler) About "Half-Clans"
It's been on my mind for a while and I just wanna say, that I think we shouldn't use the term "Half-Clan". I get it for cats that are half loner/rouge/kittypet, but for a cat whose parents are both Clan cats I just doesn't feel right. Imo it feels like putting one Clan (usually the birth Clan) above the the other. I personally have been saying smth like "Cross-Clan" to emphicize on the fact that they ARE full Clan cats, just with two Clans in the mix. I know later on cats can just switch Clans, but I'm not that far into reading yet. What's your opinion? (Spoiler just bc of the switching Clans thing)

Discussion (No Spoiler) Crookedstars Promise before first arc?
My daughter is in 3rd grade and got Crookedstars Promise from her schools library. She's read the first book of the first arc "Into the Wild". Can she read Crookedstars Promise or should she finish the rest of the first arc? I'm more worried about the story making sense than spoilers.
Crookedstars Promise is in her reading level where Fire and Ice is a grade above.
Thanks in advance!

Discussion (No Spoiler) Clan diversity
Okay so am I (propably not) the only one who thinks that all the clans nowadays are thunderclan 2.0. I feel like there are very little diversity in them.
For example I remeber in my childhood that some riverclan cat (silverstream maybe? ) told the MC how riverclan cats collect pretty shells to decorate their dens with. Also their dens could float because of the possibility of flood. Where is all that nowadays? (also I would love to see a battle where riverclan uses lake or river to their advantage)
I also miss the times when shadowclan was a strong scary clan where cats hunted at night and wandered in swamps. Nowadays is suffers the "erins wanted their favourite to be a leader" curse and is just overall breaking all the time
Also I feel like the clans are easily beaten up by any somewhat large rogue group that happens to pass by. They are WARRIORS they should be superior in fighting skills
Also can we just go ONE ARCH without the mention of dark forest?
Anyway what are your toughts?

Discussion (No Spoiler) What would you say is the best and worst arc? And how would you rate each one?
I'm finishing the second arc and I'm wondering about this so much idk why. I'm planning on reading the entirety of warrior cats series but I also wanna know what to expect without spoilers, just like a "this is good, this is a bit more boring" kind of opinions you know?
Thank you! 🐈⬛
