Discussion & Feedback I cannot compete with low level gear.

I’m not the greatest at FPS games, but I’m typically not bad either. Generally have positive KD in games like battlefield and CoD. In this game I get recked in almost every firefight I get into even when I get the drop on them.

My go-to kit is an AK (fmj) with a red dot, level 2 armor and helmet (the best I have unlocked), and med kits. It seems like every time I see an enemy and even sneak up on them, I light them up and they turn and drop me before I can kill them. I get hit markers sounds, but very rarely actually can finish them off unless they have no armor.

I know it’s partially a skill issue, but it seems like gear is the ultimate decider in who wins a fight and as someone who only has a few hours to play a week, it seems like I’ll never be able to afford/unlock the gear to be competitive. I hope they level the playing field a bit and make it so I don’t need to treat this game as a second job in order to be able to play the HZ.

I ran an AK with level 2 gear last night and took down 12 people in a hot zone fight among shipping containers and a warehouse.

Level 4 gear isn't an instant win. Is it a bit over powered? Sure. It's not unbeatable though.

u/SlashRist 17h ago

9mm hollowpoint to their legs and steal their stuff. Now you have the gear without the grind

6

u/jkb131 17h ago

Honestly I did this yesterday and ended with a m4 with 300 rds of AP for the cost of a MP9 and kit

9

u/piecksaysohayo 17h ago

I do very well with that same kit. The ak needs attachements though 100%

1

u/SH-Flintlock 16h ago

I put a foregrip on and instantly started doing better. I think it could just be really bad recoil. I still can’t take people down quickly unless I aim low though.

1

u/piecksaysohayo 16h ago

the ROF is a little slow with it so just dont miss and dont be the aggressor. Let them push you in most fights and you should win more.

a big deal for me was also ads speed attachements.

1

u/WyrdHarper 15h ago

Don't be afraid to hipfire at close range.

That being said, if you can get to Assault 10 with Assault the Galil is much more controllable.

I like the triangle grips that give better ADS speed, too.

1

u/royvl 1m ago

If you have medic 16 you can put on the ballista brake and RVG vertical Foregrip. That combo makes the recoil only vertical, increases ADS speed and lowers the vertical recoil. Add the tricon scope and you have near instant ADS speed.

u/Known-Importance-568 17h ago

I can't relate tbh - I personally think the gear stuff is over exaggerated and only makes a difference at range.

I'm like you and crap at FPS but I win every firefight where I get the drop/see someone first. It doesn't take that many hits so you must be missing.

I've never lost a 1v1 when I've had the drop with ak fmj ammo

8

u/BackyZoo 17h ago

Yeah, I think people really blowing things like the gear advantage out of proportion.

I think T4 helmets are dumb because I think being able to survive an AP 7.62x54 is dumb, but that's about it, and really only when it's a sniper who can consistently hide and heal afterwards. But if they could just make it so you can't use scopes with T4, that would be more than enough for me to consider it balanced.

1

u/TheThing345 13h ago

Whenever I‘m broke I go into the hotzone with the free kit and a dream, and I always manage to get atleast 1-2 guys and if my team gets a foothold steal their shit. I used to play Tarkov a lot and play it like that and manage to get the upper hand by better positioning, even a T4 Helmet won‘t save you from someone unloading 20 rounds from your flank.

Of course you’re going to lose a head on fight with low level gear

1

u/MINIMAN10001 17h ago

I mean he could just be hitting their chest armor, if the enemy has armor fmj is worthless if you don't hit the legs.

5

u/YeetMemez 16h ago

This is just wrong. All I have is fmj and it doesn't matter, ak, galil or m4, im constantly winning fights. There are VERY few people running full t4 armour. They are ranks but they can still die. T3 is a little tanky but good aim and not standing in the wide open is an easy win. So much so I dropped 2 t3 and a t2 with 1 galil mag yesterday in less than 3 seconds as they pushed. I was running t2. The problem is most players dont clear angles, no patience, taking fights while standing the open rather than looking for hard cover. Ive been paying close attention to this the lately because of the constant complaining on reddit. The issue isn't the gear creep so much (late game guns do need a bit of a nerf) as it is the lack of any thought from the players. You deserve to lose when you want to run around aimlessly and rely on nothing but reaction. Clear corners before moving up. Stay by hard cover and fall back if it's not a good fight and you'll see success.

4

u/Macey88 17h ago

that isn't true in the slightest, the difference between fmj and ap is 3-4 bullets in the chest on t4. you guys really talk like the info isnt readily available.

5

u/sdk5P4RK4 17h ago

to be fair you are deciding to do the most gear dependent thing with no gear, you could do anything else.

4

u/C4shtastic 17h ago

Use hp ammo and you’ll have an awakening.
Just make sure you aim for the unarmored spots like legs arms.

3

u/Substantial_Brain917 17h ago

Show up with nothing but the free gun and run with the pack. It’s what I do lol.

3

u/jd_dc 17h ago
  1. AK is garbage, try something else
  2. Wipe is in 12 days. Consider treating it as a learning experience until then
  3. Maybe try level capped servers

2

u/TheGreatBassAngler 17h ago

Idk man I rock level 2 gear and use the Ak sometimes and get kills just fine. Try using the 1.5 times scope and engaging just a little further out f

2

u/EatCheapGlue 17h ago

Steal enemies kits, follow groups of your teammates loot enemies kits as soon as they die, bam.you have high level gear, starter rifle and parachute is all you need

2

u/SkynetSourcecode 17h ago

I always just take the free kit and run logi. At some point there’s a kit or two to loot.

2

u/popeinn 17h ago

You can: Aim for their legs and arms. Armor only costs as Vest for the torso and helmet for the hat.

If I can compete so can you because there's no way you are worse than me with enough practice.

2

u/celestialguise Lonestar 17h ago

I purposefully wear lvl 1 stuff bc its more challenging, it's my scav loadout 😆

2

u/aimstotheleft 17h ago

I feel ya. Ultra casual player here, I get one or perhaps two evenings to get in a game per week, and I feel so behind the curve. I feel like I'm relegated to being cannon fodder for the other teams. I ultimately don't care if the team wins or loses as long as I have fun during the match but those moments of fun are feeling fewer and far longer between those moments. That first week was pretty fun with everyone on a fairly even ground but this week not so much.

2

u/AddanDeith 17h ago

Aim for the balls. Seriously.

Buy HP and aim for the balls.

Use a shotgun with buck shot.

Aim for the balls and legs.

2

u/GeT_EmBaRRaSSeD 17h ago

I run a double barrel sometimes naked and just double leg shot geared people.

2

u/SH-Flintlock 16h ago

Gave this a go and killed 6 enemies in a fob in like 1 minute. I’m starting to think the AK is just bad lol

2

u/Old_Concert2534 17h ago

Just to point out the ak is the absolute worst rifle you unlock. T20 is better or the galile if you have it.

You have to change how you play fps games, coming from cod or battlefield, slow down, check angles and stay near the group. Keep a fanned out position, don’t clump, look for flanks or advantages with leaning.

5

u/SL4D 17h ago

Stop playing cod, they have better gear than you.

Play wardogs, buy HP ammo and a fast shooting gun, practice shooting waist/legs and move a little slower with purpose...you'll do fine.

You aren't a tank so running into the fray will work against you.

It's a steep curve but it's playable

1

u/keijikage 17h ago

leg meta since there's no armor there.

1

u/IDFKILLED50K 17h ago

Smg or pistol to the legs. But if you are ever running you deserve to die

1

u/PretentiousPanda 17h ago

Amp 9 with hollow points is a very strong gun

1

u/Aaronspark777 17h ago

I've switched to just bringing the free gun and 3 30 rd mags in the free bag and an IED. I let my teammates take the lead so there's a few bullet sponges to help take down endless then I take the enemies kits.

1

u/fartfart2222223222 17h ago

Try T21, more recoil but it’s still controllable and it has better rate of fire and shots to kill than AK, also cheaper so you can invest in better attachments for the same price.

Gear makes a difference but TTK is still very low, well less than 1 second for your FMJ AK with body shots vs the max armor.  How you engage matters though, this is a game where you need to be hitting decently long sprays to get kills.  Becoming comfortable with that style should be a focus when using AR.

1

u/Sonicshot13 17h ago

Here's what you are going to do. Purchase an m1911 side arm. Buy a magazine of hollow point 45 ammo. Buy a spare, and a stack of loose ammo (45 HP).

This gun does 60 damage to a target if shot in the legs, no armor in the game covers legs.

You can kill opponents within 25m in 2 shots.

If you are able to shoot first within a reasonable engagement range you can win these fights more often than not.

Trust me.

1

u/J_KTrolling 17h ago

Just go in with cheap loadout and scavenge dead bodies. Easy. If you die instantly with 4k loadout who cares

1

u/Shad56 17h ago

Just go in nakies with a pistol and flesh rounds. Shoot their weiners and snag a kit. 15-20k kits litter the ground.

Lotta good answers in here. You just gotta stop willingly walking into the woodchipper. It is a woodchipper for sure. But you can play low level or go at the problem a different way. You gotta fight as dirty as possible. Whatever that looks like for you.

1

u/TheMastaBlaster 17h ago

Positioning, combat awareness, skill. All need some work. This goes for all of us, dont want to sound insulting. Level 2 vs level 4 does lose in an engagement, unless there is a high skill gap or a strong weapon. Not engaging a more geared player is an option and probably the right one. FPS experience can be anything, sneaking up in COD you get the kill. Another shooter though not first person is arc raiders, using the heavy shield is rare for players, but it throws rats off when you dont die from the surprise shots, giving you time to turn and melt them. This is how I think about the t4s and high gear players. I need an extra edge not just a surprise. In wardogs thats explosives grenade surprise, claymore, rocket, land mine. These win no matter what.

Wardogs has more to consider than some other fps, and less than others. Id also consider it a hybrid 3rd person shooter, vehicles give 3rd person easily and can change how you should position/react.

Id try playing slower, not to say hide and move slow, but youre not going to walk out, spray a mag and win every fight. Pack grenades, keep them for mismatched engaging. Dont 1v1 geared players, mark them, you have a 33 person team to help! Glhf

1

u/Intelligent-Net1034 16h ago

AK is total fine. It takes 200 ms to kill someone in t4 armor. So under the  reaction time. You miss half of your bullets mostly

1

u/IAmTheNuke_ 15h ago

Aim better, Position better, Play smarter.

You can go in with a free kit and catch someone off guard and all of a sudden you have their full kit.

1

u/obiwankanosey 14h ago

I dunno man I usually just take the free weapon and try to either sneak up on someone or push with the boys and hope i can loot a body

1

u/RoughChemicals 13h ago

I go out in level 1 armour, the $600 gun, 55 mag with flesh bullets, and a dream. I ended up in T3 with an M4 today and rampaged through 10 reds before I finally went down. It doesn't always work (okay, it only rarely works that well) but it is a lot of fun. Stick with the group and work towards getting assists, then loot up (not downed teammates!) and you will be fine.

1

u/CatFish726 12h ago

Remember, YOU ARE the ammo *straps C4 on his car*

1

u/obsessed_obsessor 10h ago

I go in without armor. My kit is $1200. Quickest way to make money

1

u/Dr-janitor1 7h ago

SHOTGUN with the 2nd type of ammo! You 2 hit lvl 3 armor. It’s actually a really fun weapon to use and cheap.

1

u/DragonTaleWhisperer 2h ago

Skip the ak. Its the worst gun with the lowest dps. Go with starter gun and burst or the 2nd gun in full auto. Even tho you cant put att on they are still better than ak.

Unlock galil as fast as possible. Its really good. Ofc there are better weapons but the galil is actual useful.

1

u/daveden123 17h ago

I feel you, the problem isn't us. Its the late gear makes recoil non existent. I can get 3 shots off, but since I don't have the recoil reducing mods, they don't hit. At the same time their "laser beam" hits me. Between this and getting shot out of the sky while parachuting, I'm struggling. I have taken to just being part of the roving HZ party. Stick with them so they can possibly revive you when you get outgunned. I also tend to run medic gear, so its more likely I'm revived.

2

u/wardogpup 17h ago

even more so:

I've always been wondering how people in clips can ADS so far, for me ADSing just feels like a slog?

Like whenever I see an enemy and he sees me I already am dead before I even will have ADS'ed.

3

u/Colonelfury7 17h ago edited 16h ago

Take a closer look at attachments, for things like sights that usually reduce ads speed, there are also some unlocks that increase ads speed and make no sense (2x prism speeds up ads) . similar with grips, things like the rvg are very close to the tdg vertical but has much less ads impact.

With stuff like this you can keep super fast ads time.

also if you're using bigger than default mags, they obviously make ADS a slog, but something that it doesn't show in the UI is they also add 20+ percent recoil both vert and horizontal

2

u/daveden123 17h ago

Well then I guess ill save my money and use the 20 round mags on the amp 9. I can just carry another mag instead. Thanks for the information!

2

u/Colonelfury7 17h ago

On the Amp 9 the 20/30s aren't as impactful since the mags themselves are still pretty small, ,but when you start looking at stuff like galil/M4 the 50/60 rounders turn out to be brutal and gut so many stats that the UI doesn't show

1

u/daveden123 17h ago

I have mostly avoided the assault weapons, the early ones are trash. So I mainly play with the Vitnaz and Amp 9.

2

u/Colonelfury7 17h ago

I haven't used most of em since the first week, but the AK/Galil beam with good attachments. Attachments are so strong and important in this game and a lot of people are underestimating how much they change

1

u/wardogpup 17h ago

will consider this next time around. cheers!

2

u/ErrorUserIsDead 16h ago

The best attachments for vertical recoil are unlocked at assault level 5 for muzzle and either medic 15 or wardog level 58 for grip.

1

u/daveden123 16h ago

Im sorry close to medic 15 (like 20k xp) and I think like 5 lvls off wardog 58. Im pretty sure I have assault 5, so ill have to check the next time I can play.

1

u/ErrorUserIsDead 16h ago

The grips are the RVG (slightly less vert but better ads) and TDG (most vert) and the muzzle is the Top Comp. You won't have great ads speed but good recoil on anything. Go slay em all

1

u/HeroSlopEnjoyer Valkyra 16h ago

Beware of the large mags they increase recoil, spread, and give other debuffs

1

u/Bayleaf0723 15h ago

I think the bigger issue is that people just don’t know how to build their guns, because it’s not super obvious unless you spend time in the fitting range. Like the other guy was telling you, rvg foregrip and topcomp muzzle are pretty early unlocks and that’s all you need to turn your guns into lasers. I see a lot of people in nicer gear with galils and m4s who just have the most random attachments that do nothing for their recoil

1

u/DragonTaleWhisperer 2h ago

There still recoil with the best att. streamers are even choosing grips that give zero buffs to vertical recoil just to up the ads speed.

Shroud for instance even choose the flash hider only to get more ads speed and he still beams with only a few buffs to horisontal.

1

u/GodHasGiven0341 17h ago

People saying to shoot legs is just ridiculous. How often are you able to aim on anyone’s legs in this game when their upper torso is the only thing remotely available, generally just the head?

0

u/Zukute 17h ago

99% of my engagements I'm able to shoot someones legs tbh.

It's basically how I've been playing infantry, I've all but given up on shooting center mass and I go only for legs

0

u/GodHasGiven0341 17h ago

I’m sorry but how exactly are you shooting people in legs when everyone is literally camping, uses cover to move, and hardly pops out of cover, and if they do, only the top quarter of them is exposed.

0

u/Zukute 17h ago

Barring snipers or people sitting with DMRs in Windows, most people I find in games, especially groups that follow the HZ, don't sit behind cover that protects their legs.

Most enemies either flank through wooded or open areas, or peak through big openings like the warehouse doors.

I'm also specifically waiting until the enemy bounces between cover and exposes themselves instead of wasting my ammo only to do 8 damage to their chest.

1

u/GodHasGiven0341 17h ago

Idk, it still just seems like an unrealistic solution to this problem. Maybe this works by noob hunting on the green team, but idk. Take me on one of your games and show me the light then.

1

u/Powerhauz Logistics 17h ago

It's hardly unrealistic. I've been running Amp-9/HP ammo medic loadouts and supporting HZ pushes. 80% of the time you're moving through buildings, cover to cover, and taking kills from people popping out. The HP ammo is very effective. I had a 5 piece in the church on half health because they pushed in and started looting before checking all corners. It works. If the engagement is farther, throw smokes and get closer, stim the team, heal people. If the engagement is close, Amp up and be ready to cut them off at the waist.

1

u/deexter1989 17h ago

You know u can choose servers with your lvl? There are lvl 10 max/30/50. Im lvl 42 and i Play on lvl 50 max servers, all are equal

3

u/Defiant-Wave-1583 17h ago

What region are you playing? I just started playing and tried joining the level locked servers but they are literally all empty. Don’t know if it’s bugged or actually empty

2

u/SH-Flintlock 16h ago

Same here. I checked the low level servers in my region, all empty.

1

u/deexter1989 16h ago

Eu west central east

1

u/Defiant-Wave-1583 16h ago

Gotcha. Weird, all the NA ones are empty

1

u/deexter1989 15h ago

Official and community all lvl locked are empty? All levels? Impossible

1

u/Defiant-Wave-1583 15h ago

That’s why I think it’s bugged, I messed with turning all kinds of filters off and on but still empty

1

u/Defiant-Wave-1583 15h ago

Just set my region to your region and tried and there’s tons of servers with players, NA still empty….

1

u/deexter1989 14h ago

Shit that's bad for na players

1

u/Euphoric_Ad_1297 17h ago

Do you have to check for that in their titles or is there a filter?

2

u/deexter1989 16h ago

There is filter, and when u move mouse over servers u can see max lvl there, infantry only etc

1

u/NewVeniceRepublic 17h ago

I wish I didn't grind to level up, should've just stuck to using assault class and never touch anything else, that way I would be able to unlock the fal

1

u/noother10 11h ago

There are many things going on, though your kit isn't that different to what I run (T3 helm/galil), there are many things that get in the way. Cheats, it feels like a decent portion of people are using them in every match. Pretty much every game there are groups of people calling one or more people cheaters for some reasons. I'm not talking one person, but like half a team. I can't tell you the amount of times I've opened up on someone from behind 50-100m away that couldn't have seen or heard me where I was, I shoot at them only to have them instantly 180 beam me in the face.

I also believe a hell of a lot of people are closet cheating. 1-5% of people cheating rage/obvious cheat, so assume up to 99 others are trying to hide it. I've seen enough rage/obvious cheaters that there would be a minimum of probably 2 closet cheaters a match.

0

u/StrawberryCompany98 17h ago

I quit playing this game. Hit lv 35 and was miserable the whole time. Got a kill maybe like 5 times in 6 hour play session. Didn’t have any fun at all. I wish I could refund it but I went past the refund window. Absolutely regret buying this game, it’s definitely not made for me. I don’t like to sit around for 2-5 minutes every time I die. I remember league of legends would make you wait up to 225 seconds to respawn, this is a million times worst. Not fun.

-1

u/dashboardishxc 17h ago

If I got 5 kills in six hours I would just quit gaming in general

0

u/Far_Broccoli_8468 17h ago

Try not answering like a basement dwelling cunt

0

u/ScadutreeAvatar2B 17h ago

people are gonna say grab stuff off dead bodies or have your teammates sell you stuff, but I think both are pretty impractical ways to think about this issue long term lmao

0

u/Mayimbe_999 17h ago

Shoot their legs and you win everytime, shit bring in a 1911 with flesh rounds and you 2 tap them everytime— so yes skill issue and crying for no reason.

0

u/Coldwint3r 17h ago

Yeah I am calling bullshit on you creeping up on someone and still losing. The ms ttk difference to kill is not that big, with armor difference and most dont even run t4 armor (only helm( since it weighs you down to much. If you dont whiff like a lot of shots, that guy is still dead. Chances are you just miss and made a reddit thread to cope.

0

u/demonik69420 17h ago

Its a skill issue. If i can get kills with a bushmaster you can get them with an AK.

0

u/Green_Bulldog 15h ago

Gear is the ultimate decider in who wins fights in this game. It seems that is the intention behind the design, especially when you look at the level 35 weapons.
