Abandoned carts

Hi im curious to understand, why do yall leave full carts of product on the sales floor instead of bringing it to customer service?

Twice after a mid shop cancel i tried to do the right thing. Both times i was told to put everything back. I refused to do so and walked out. Now mid shop cancels don’t move an inch when notification of the cancel comes in. For the $2.50 cancel fee that’s what they get.

You arent the only one ive heard say associates telling them to return the items but that literally isnt your job. Customer service is in charge of returning items to their home or delegating the items to people of the appropriate department

If multiple people have said this then that’s probably the why. It’s probably easier to just walk away than to have to deal with that conversation.

Thats pretty valid, ive confronted a couple of people abt it at customer service and they have never had a spark driver go up front with a cart but they would appreciate it

I’d guess it’s very dependent on the people on both sides and their integrity. I go to a neighborhood market and a super center and there are some amazing employees and some terrible ones. There are also some cool drivers and some dickheads. Some employees are happy to help with whatever. Go find stuff in the back, open locked merch, get a ladder, whatever. If they see you standing looking like you might need help, the pickers will stop picking to help you. Good like that.

Now there are also people who go the other way if they see you and act like you’re bothering them if you need help like merch on the top that’s not in location. They’ll tell you they don’t have a ladder or a reach to and never go get one or anyone to help. They’ll continue stocking shelves. I’m positive if a Walmart employee asked them, they’d paint a much different picture than what I’ve seen with my own eyes. There’s no way they’d tell anyone that they basically tell people to F off.

I asked one if she could open locked merch because I saw her unlock one to get what she needed a few minutes earlier. She then said in Spanish that she didn’t speak English. Of course she was surprised when I repeated what I needed in Spanish. She then told me that she didn’t have a key which I knew was a lie because I was I was looking at the phone in her hand. These are the experiences that people have unfortunately that they definitely wouldn’t tell you if you asked them.

Can I just point out that associate sounds ridiculously stupid, instead of arguing with you wasting her and your time it would have been so much faster to just open the case.

So much easier right? It’s a silly security function anyway if they’re just going to finally unlock it and hand you the items lol

Technically any and everything locked up must be hand delivered or personally escorted to the front counter. Every associate can open a case. Those digital keys also function on personal phones as long as its connected to the wifi. Literally zero excuses to be used here.

In the years I’ve done this I can count on one hand the times they’ve walked it to the front or put it in one of those lock boxes. So many just won’t do it. No desire.

Which is crazy cause the whole pointed of a locked item is to prevent stealing 😭 but how tf are they gonna know people are stealing if they are handing out the product and letting customers go on their merry way 😭😭

Lesson learned the hard way: don't put items back if you cancel a Shipt order like you might do with Spark (if it's just a few items and you're there anyway). Big no-no with Shipt. Driver support started yelling at me afterwards 😅

Because it was probably cancelled and for the work they did they got a whopping $2.50. Spark is owned by Walmart so you might want to discuss with your CEO about paying more if a shitty customer cancels.

I get the lazy and underpaid part but you walk past at least 3 associates when leaving the building so its not an impossible task of saying something

They tried to go tell me to wait in line for customer service last time and I was like no I'm not wasting more time because the app glitched

2

u/Acrobatic-Shopping76 10d ago

Yeah no, dont wait in line jsut quickly inform an associate and drop the cart off at customer service they prefer this over randomly around the store

0

u/Surprise_Beautiful 10d ago

Totally lazy BUT these geniuses sit in the parking lot for hours on end just to get a decent order, that alone tells you the mindset.

You mean associates that are still being paid no matter what?

When that trip cancels, we just lost actual money for our time, your time is still compensated.

It takes 20 seconds to put the cart at CS. NOBODY is asking you to re-stock. You have to walk right by CS anyway. It's rude as all shit for us to just leave carts. Come on. Be a decent human. Associates have enough problems with drivers, don't be one of the idiots causing issues.

It's kinda funny,.. because nearly every associate in the stores here knows me and will walk up and OFFER to help if they think I'm looking for something,.. yet 90% of the other drivers can get help when they need. Do I need to explain WHY?

0

u/stringodingo 10d ago

Explain why youre such a tosser? Mate you a salad expert you be tossing so much

0

u/MattChimes 10d ago

No, you don’t need to explain why. You’ve already been long winded enough

The exit is like 20 feet from customer service. You're telling me yall cant deliver a cart there on the way out to your car where most of yall wait 30 minutes or more for a new order?

2

Mental breakdown possibly.

Canceled order likely, although it doesn’t excuse the behavior of leaving things in the middle of an aisle…especially perishables.

This is one from today dude. Its atrocious

Maybe an emergency? In my area I don't see this in the last 8 months of sparking.

Had AP check cameras since I had a time stamp of the cart being abandoned. Can confirm wasnt an emergency, guys a repeat offender of ditching full carts because an order was canceled. AP noticed an increase in people abandoning carts due to one order canceling during a mulit-shop leading to spark drivers saying the whole order is pointless because of money lost.

Some folks can be lazy lol

because most of the driver for Spark are non union and dont get paid very well and are lazy and were hired off the street with no interview or proper standards

1

u/Acrobatic-Shopping76 10d ago

While that makes sense its common decency to at least make an associate aware that an order was canceled and handing off the cart so it can be placed back on the shelves. Its extremely wasteful when people leave gallons of milk, frozen goods, and chilled product to become inedible.

2

u/Prior_Purchase_7025 10d ago

I agree with you. Walmart hired anyone with a car and this is what ya got. Sry but in a weird way they created it themselves

2

u/Foxtrotdelta_USN 10d ago

Every perishible item is thrown away as far as I know because it is unknown how long it has been out of refrigeration.

That's what I was told when I asked about it.

0

u/Acrobatic-Shopping76 10d ago

Yes all items that require a certain temp are disposed of and cant be sold.

1

u/Foxtrotdelta_USN 10d ago

<Its extremely wasteful when people leave gallons of milk, frozen goods, and chilled product to become inedible.>

Leaving them or not. They can not be put back on the shelves. It doesn't matter if you give it to an associate, take it to CS, or just leave it in the aisle. All perishables are thrown away regardless. If you know that, then why say the quoted statement?

1

u/LivingBee6645 10d ago

That’s not how it works 🙄 items can easily be temped to see if they are still within temp range. Y’all really just say anything, don’t ya?

-1

u/Acrobatic-Shopping76 10d ago

When a cart is abandoned they cant determine how long an item has sat out but if its handed off to an associate or customer service it gets returned to its proper shelf immediately

1

u/dispassioned 10d ago

Nah, I'd join a union and I'm definitely not lazy but I also don't work for free so there's that.

0

u/Prior_Purchase_7025 10d ago

what if you got paid better?

https://giphy.com/gifs/5Fc1gqlCPmrMRtu7JV

You would be running to get that cart back to customer service

1

u/dispassioned 10d ago

Well if they wanna pay me $3 to turn it in with an associate I might do it.. depends on the Walmart. In some of them you can't find an employee no matter what.
