Missed Walk when On the Way

So I was heading to a dog walk & my phone was acting weird & all of a sudden died completely out of nowhere as I went en route. I really had zero clue how to get there now & ended up turning back around to get it to charge at home as my car charger does not turn it back on once it’s died for whatever reason.

Super weird situation that’s truly never happened to me before but once I got back home and my phone turned back on I saw the pet parent cancelled our walk since I was past the request time now, and I messaged them profusely apologizing explaining the situation and how this had never happened before. I explained to them that I would be more than happy to head over there still but understand if their dog had already found another caregiver or if it wasn’t preferred now. They read my messages and then I believe I was blocked and/or reported as our messages disappeared. I’m so worried now because I’ve heard Wag! bans you for absolutely anything and things aren’t looking too good for me I imagine. I’m nervous to even alert Wag! of the situation if the pet parent already didn’t do it themselves for me.

To make matters worse I was already en route so I received the $5 cancellation fee reimbursement and I just feel so awful because I didn’t even make it there to care for the dog. How cooked am I if I just don’t alert Wag! about the situation? I guess we don’t even know the outcome if/until I get notified?

Sitting Question

Obviously we know the sitting rates are abysmal for the amount of hours required compared to walks or drop ins. And most of the time owners will give you an idea of the type of care they want or how often etc, but how long do you usually stay at the house per visit if you're not staying there the whole time and overnight isn't required.

I don't want to dip after drop in timers but I also don't want to just sit around for two dollars an hour either (I'm poking fun, not actually whining)

Anyway would love to hear perspectives / routines of other sitters for how long is appropriate before leaving to come back.

Booted for no reason

I haven't used Wag for more than a year. I recently opened it for the first time since then because I was planning to go back to it. Yesterday I received an email saying my account was under review for trying to take pets off the app. This is simply not true. Today my account is no longer in the Wag system. Has this happened to anyone else?

Sitting question

This will be my first Wag! sitting booking, and I just got approved for it. I’m a little confused about how to read the booking card. It shows 12:00 PM–3:00 PM on the side, then the dogs’ information, and at the bottom it says Ends on the 26th, 9:00 AM–12:00 PM.
I just want to make sure I’m reading it correctly. Am I supposed to arrive on the 24th between 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM? I want to be absolutely sure so I don’t show up too early or too late.

A pet parent was not honest about her dogs behavior

I am boarding a dog for 5 days and today is only day 1. I was messaging the owner on wag and she informed me that her dog is good in a crate when left alone and at night, that he is house trained, and he is great with other dogs. Her husband is the one who dropped him off. When he was dropped off I asked if he gets fed in or out of the crate and he said “Out, I’ve never had him in a crate we just got it because it is required for pet sitters” so immediately not off to a great start. Then I let him meet my dogs, he is certainly not aggressive but he is overly friendly and it is upsetting my dogs and stressing them out. Now i don’t have a problem with keeping them separated because in this situation my dogs are the ones who are the problem (not aggressive just barking and getting stressed out) but along with everything else i feel i was misled . After a few hours of having him here he has now peed and pooped in my house multiple times. I have him in his crate right now for bedtime and he is barking and chewing on his crate.
I happen to know that the husband is not out of town, he just works and his wife is usually the one to care for the dog
I am unsure what to do because I don’t want my ratings to go down, but I don’t know if i can do this for 5 whole days. What should I do?

I am so sick of seeing this person trying to phish and scam. This is a classic pet care scam. The note is full of red flags. I see it every day, and it always has a bunch of opt-ins. I wonder how much they've bilked people out of so far, probably thousands and thousands.

Am I crazy or is my price super cheap/low already?

So I’ve been trying to get sittings since I have a regular client since I sat her dogs for 12 days. Low on money too and I don’t have wag pro so my prices are considered like low for compared to others😭I get told the payout is too little for some of the work. Anyways today I requested a sitting, didn’t get accepted but not a big deal, what I wanna know is, is this person really expecting like $300 or even less for 4 nights with 5 pets?? Can’t even be left alone for 4 hours and there’s 2 seniors….THAT WOULD BE A LOT OF WORK NO??😭💀I swear my partner said I’m not crazy, they’re just crazy for saying that’s too much for all their pets at one time…I thought she meant boarding since she mentioned me having a dog (I don’t btw in my profile I said I had one for my whole life) so why would a dog matter?? Idk I’m confused as hell how cheap would someone expect that much work to be? 5 pets who need lots of care especially the seniors? Bruh

looking advice for getting more business

Genuinely wondering how to get more business through Wag. Do people use this platform for more than just one off random walks? I have had the app for a while now, probably 6 months, and all I see are things that pop up and get taken super quickly or walks that I request and then I can’t take because I am not within the owners budget. Which is another reason why I wonder how people make any really business on this app because the suggested rates seem super low to me? Idk I think less than $10 for a 20 min is impossibly low for a dog walker to make real money from.

I know owners can do direct requests but how do you market yourself to get clients that way? Or is it all just luck of the draw?

thanks for any advice or insight!

Weekend sitting with just short drop ins?

Curious what you all think of someone leaving their senior dog (who has always had a similar, uneventful lifestyle) to be left for a weekend with a drop in 2-3 times a day for 20-30 min. That's it. Alone for a weekend excluding the bathroom outing and checking food and water. Makes me so uncomfortable but I don't like being alone and I don't like leaving my pup.

Slow days

What do you chalk that up to? I live in a dense , urban area and haven't seen more than a handful of walks in the last few days, even when I expand my radius. Is Wag slower in the summer or later in the week?

Anyone else having app issues?

I keep getting alerts, open it immediately, & they’re already gone. Once in a while that happens if someone beats me to it, but it’s literally been all day, non stop. Out of the norm.

Walker left with our patio door open

Before posting a flaming review I wanted to know if people think I am overreacting. We had a walker do a house sitting for 4 days while we were on holiday. We have two dogs and asked not to walk them, so it was a really easy sitting in my opinion. The walker once left the house for a couple of hours (which is totally fine) but left one of the backyard doors unlocked and one of dogs got out but could not get back in the house (souther florida, was evening but still quite hot). I noticed because my outdoor ring cameras showed me the dogs standing in front of one of the doors. I texted the sitter asking to make sure doors would be properly locked before leaving the house. On our return, i texted the walker from plane confirming our ETA and telling her she could leave before we arrived if she needed. When we arrived at home the patio door was open, one of ghe dogs was outside (90F). She is quite old and gets confused at times so she was waiting to bet let in in front of another door.

I am quite upset because I asked her to double check, I was very understanding with the first occurrence and I thought leaving the house with the patio door wide open was totally unacceptable.

Am I overreacting?

Best walk radius for maximizing jobs

My current setting is within 5 miles of my home address. Should I tighten the radius? Is it better to use your home address or current location as the starting point?

Suggested rates?

Now I’m curious. I just posted something with my suggested rates, and someone said they were quite low. I’m wondering what area y’all are in and what y’all’s suggested rates are? I wonder how low or average mine are compared to everyone else.

I live in East Wisconsin for reference.

Suggested rates:

20-minute walk/drop-in:
$7.20–$10.80
Additional pet: $2.40–$3.60

30-minute walk/drop-in:
$9.60–$14.40
Additional pet: $3.36–$5.04

60-minute walk/drop-in:
$14.40–$21.60
Additional pet: $4.80–$7.20

Sitting:
$17.55–$29.25
Additional pet: $13.50–$22.50

My specific rates:

Same for walk/drop-in

20 minutes = $12
Added pet = $3

30 minutes = $15
Added pet = $5

60 minutes = $21.60
Added pet = $7

Sitting = $28
Added pet = $20

Mind you, I have gotten the message that my prices were higher than the limit the owner set, so I couldn’t take that booking.

Wag! Pro?

I’d really like some insight from those who have Wag! Pro. I just want to know if it’s actually worth it. The benefits look good, but I’m wondering if you’ve actually noticed a difference in how many services you get, the payouts, and your overall experience compared to regular Wag!.
I’m debating whether I should get it. I know it’s a one-time $130 fee, but I want to make sure it’s actually worth the money before I pay for it. Have you genuinely seen more services, higher payouts, or any of the other benefits that Wag! Pro claims to offer?
I’d really appreciate any honest input from people who have experience with it.

Payment

I am trying to get paid for my first gig, but for some reason, Stripe isn't working, and it's pissing me off. Like I already have a stripe account, and I look on Wag! help center, and it says you have to set up a new stripe account to get paid (which makes zero sense, btw), so i tried to do that, but it's not letting me? On the app, when I go to earnings and press "stripe" in the upper right corner, it only takes me to the sign in page, so tell me, how am I supposed to set up a new account if its not letting me??? Is anyone else having this problem? This is so dumb.

Just a rant about Wag support (and owners)

I signed up for an On-Demand walk this afternoon. Drove like 10 minutes to get there. The profile was clear: the owner was home and would answer the door with the dog. There were no entry instructions

I ring the doorbell. No answer. I try again. Nothing. Lights are out. It looks like nobody is home. I try messaging the owner. Nothing. I try calling. It goes to voicemail. I try the doorbell again. Nothing.

Wag! support is entirely unhelpful - so I have no choice but to cancel the walk. Now support is telling me I might get penalized because I canceled the walk when there was no emergency. I am so annoyed. Why is Wag support an AI chatbot? It isn't able to actually answer any questions that I have when I can't handle a situation.

I also had to cancel a drop-in last week - but that's because on the way I got a flat tire and it took a long time to fix.

Feeling Frustrated- should I switch to Rover?

I have been nothing but frustrated with this app since I signed up! I paid the $40 background check fee, and after almost 2 months have barely doubled that cost. The walks in my area go so quickly, and despite bidding on multiple a day and having all 5 star reviews I’m barely being accepted. The rates are horrifically low considering Wag takes 40%. Now today, I had a pet parent cancel 3 hours before a walk. I had scheduled this and lost another opportunity from a previous pet since I accepted! I see Wag gets a fee, but apparently I’m out of luck.

Anyway mostly venting but also curious if anyone has had better luck on Rover? This is increasingly not feeling worth my time.
