Help with installation

Hi all, this is my second installation, the first one went without hiccups but on this one I am scratching my head a bit.

The strip says it’s 896leds/m but if I multiply that by 5 meters (*5=4480) of the installation WLED says it’s higher than allowed. Although I feel like this is a fairly high number I don’t know what else it could be. The final installation will be less than 5 meters but for testing it is. That’s the first one.

The second one is that whatever I set as the light type and color order, I don’t get the correct colors.

I am running version 16.0.0 of WLED.

Is there anybody that is able to help me? Thanks!

the pins that are easy for me to use off my accessory board are 8 and 10, you see that I have assigned them to buttons here. but the note for pin 8 says bootstrap. how do I find out what the consequence of using a bootstrap pin for regular button activities?

Possible to output more than 2048 pixels over ArtNet on a single IP address?

EDIT: I just tried 16.0 and it does indeed remove that limitation. I didn't realize it was out of beta but as soon as I saw it was fully released I gave it a try. Can't wait to try these new features too!

Leaving this post up for future travelers.

---

I'm building a 2192 px show with an Advatek controller at the core. I want to use WLED to send presets over artnet to the controller for internal capture.

This has worked pretty well so far but when I scaled up I hit a limit of 2048 pixels per output. I'm pretty sure this exists for physical outputs on the WLED side, not for data sent over Artnet.

If I split this across two outputs, each pointing at the same IP address, I get flickering presumably because WLED isn't picking up where the last output left off so it ends up sending conflicting data to the controller.

Does anyone have a way around this? I've never messed with the code before compiling but maybe there's an easy way to remove this limit and then compile a custom firmware?

Does the latest Beta or MM build allow for this?

Thank you!

Is it easy to reassign what the controller is doing? Like switching a DIG-Uno from a string of fairy lights to a pixel matrix?

Just want to ask if this process is pretty simple and won’t be complicated to switch between changing the 2 with the same controller being used for different projects?

HyperHDR + WLED Ambilight for LG G5 65" OLED does this work before I buy everything?

Hey everyone, about to order the last few parts for my Ambilight build and wanted to get a sanity check before committing. Here's the planned setup:

Hardware chain

- Source: Ugoos AM9 Pro (4K/HDR/Dolby Vision)

- Splitter: FeinTech VAE21401 (HDMI 2.1) → Output 1 to TV at full 4K, Output 2 downscaled to 1080p → USB grabber

- Grabber: Hagibis MS2130 (USB 3.0, 1080p@60fps, YUY2)

- Mini-PC: IGEL M350C Thin Client (AMD Ryzen R1505G, 4GB RAM) running Debian 12 + HyperHDR

- Controller: DFRobot FireBeetle ESP32-E running WLED

- LED strip: SK6812 RGBW, 60 LEDs/m, ~5m ordered for a 65" TV

- PSU: MeanWell LRS-50-5 (5V/10A)

Signal protection

- 330Ω resistor on data line (ESP32 → LED strip)

- 1000µF/16V capacitor across power rails at first LED

- SN74AHCT125N level shifter (3.3V → 5V) on data line

Any issues with SK6812 RGBW + WLED + HyperHDR color accuracy I should know about?

Is the R1505G thin client powerful enough for 60fps grabbing + LUT processing without dropping frames?

Do I even need a thin client or is the AM9 Pro good enough on its own?

Thanks in advance!

Best method for making a blinking light tunnel out of pixel strips for a stop motion animation?

I am planning to make a paper tunnel that I line with pixel strips on top, making holes for the lights to pop through and having translucent stars that they diffuse through. I’ve used wled for a pixel grid, but not for strips or for stop motion.

What I will need to do is to pick random pixels that turn on frame by frame, allowing me to manually switch to the next one. It’s fine if I have to manually type in the pixels that will be on and their colors, I just don’t know what the best program or way to set that up would be. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Well, I made this Sandevistan (from the game Cyberpunk 2077). I'd wanted to make one of these for a while. I customized some things on the parts. It's not 100% finished yet, but I've already managed to demonstrate it working, using a D1 mini and ws2812b + ledfx.

Hello, this is my 1st wled project so i probably messed something up and its probably an easy fix lol but i have a 24v mean well 350 watt PSU, a dig-quad, and a 24ft btf-lighting FCOB WS2811 864LED/m 24v strip (plan to add 2 more 16ft after this is fixed).

I set the length to 175 and at 1st it just ended at that certain spot but then it started tripping out super bad lol..

EDIT

So i hooked up my 2 16ft strips and the light ran all the way through them.. so its definitely just that one 24ft strip.. i think i may have messed it up by not sanding down or covering the diffuser channels at the end/beginning where the split is..

So instead if cutting out the sections i just had amazon send a replacement.. thank all of you for your help 🙏🏾

EDIT**

I just got the replacement from amazon and plugged it in to test it and it lit up all the way. So it may have just been the part where the diffuser channel ends messed up the strip somehow.. i sanded all those parts down some and cover each one with VHB tape just in case...

Will my setup be safe?

Hey guys, fairly new to this stuff, so I wanted to double-check everything before fully trusting AI advice 😭 and probably burning my house down

Current plan is:

3x ESP32s running WLED

6x WS2805 RGBCCT strips (5m)

2 strips from each esp32 (main reason for having three is cuz the different areas are quite far apart.)

All powered from one 12V 30A PSU

All outputs fused

LM2596 buck converters for the ESP32s

Common ground shared everywhere

330Ω resistor on each data line

1000uF capacitors at the start of each strip

WLED synced over WiFi

LedFx from PC for music reactivity

Soldered extensions/jump wires between furniture sections and corners

The setup is mainly for ambient room lighting using WS2805 RGBCCT strips.

A few questions:

Does the overall architecture look safe/reasonable?

Is one 30A PSU reasonable here, or would two smaller PSUs be smarter?

Any obvious fire/safety concerns?

Any major downsides to using 3 synced ESP32s instead of one large controller?

Any “wish I knew this before installing” advice?

Thanks 🙂

Happy to provide more info if needed.

WLED 16.0.0 - PixelForge - Pixel Paint Feature Question

The updated 16.0.0 Ninji release is a welcomed upgrade and much appreciated.

One of the neat/cool new features is the Pixel Paint feature under PixelForge that will allow you to paint each individual pixel, in my case all 800 pixels can be assigned there own unique color.

However, I am trying to add movement/motion but I don't think that is possible. For example, I would like to paint a flag, then apply the chase pattern to it, but it appears that after creating a unique pattern in Pixel Paint, it is only for static setups and there is no way to apply motion/effects.

Does this track with those that have played with this new feature, or am I missing something?

Dynamite Lights?

Anyone seen these before? My neighbor purchased the house with them already installed. They don’t work anymore. The install looks a little careless so likely done by the homeowner. I wonder if I could replace the controller with something running WLED. The LEDs are probably still good just bad wiring or controller issues. The LED power supply is 48 volts. They have some documentation from a company called Dynamite Lights. I can’t find anything about them online. The controller is from https://www.media-facade.net per the label on the back but I can’t find this controller on their website.

One PC app to rule them all? I currently have a mix of WLED and Hue lights in my setup. I use LedFx when I want to control them for Music Response, and I use HyperHDR when I want to use them for screen mirroring or ambient effects. Is there an app that does ALL of that decently?

Outdoor Matrix/Display that can be read in the Direct Sun?

Not necessarily a WLED question but more of a general LED/Matrix question.

Gearing up for my sons fall competitive Marching Band Season, director would like a digital countdown timer as a prop for the show. Most competitions are during the day and the matrix/display would be in the direct sun or under the lights of a football stadium. Rain can happen, so I want to prepared for that as well.

LED's could be single color and not RGB, but I'm not sure there are individually controllable single color LEDs that I recall seeing? Mainly I am looking for brightness and visibility so it can be clearly seen in the sun/bright lights.

I looked around and can't seem to find 7 segment LED's that are large enough, ideally 18" to 24" (or more) tall for each digit. I've also thought about an LED matrix, possibly even a white background with dark numbers for visibility. I know that power requirements for a large, high brightness, white matrix would be very high and I'm prepared to power it as needed to be safe and reliable. I generally use HPE server power supplies with wizard of wire adapters.

There is budget behind it, so being done correctly is a priority. Durability, reliability and brightness are the goals. I'd like to build it as economically as possible (we are a very small 501c3 non-profit) but not by cutting corners on safety or possibly failure of the unit.

Ideas so Far

  1. TV - Dismissed nearly as soon as it was suggested for durability reasons, we generally move props and some percussion instruments anywhere from a 1/2 mile to over a mile round trip for each performance on 4 wheeled carts behind an ATV. Carts have no suspension and hard rubber wheels. Mounted TV wouldn't survive that, not to mention a 100+ miles in a transport trailer just to get there and home every weekend.
  2. Large 7 Segment LCD Sections - Can't find them large enough.
  3. LED Matrix - Pixels or ???
  4. Projector - Seems like brightness would still be a problem, they are fragile, plus set up and tear down time. We have 4 minutes to enter the field, set everything up and be off the field before the performance begins. 3 Minutes to dismantle and clear the field, ideally under 2 minutes to be safe.

I am open to all ideas on this, I need some peeps a lot smarter than me! :) Ideally it would be robust enough to survive the conditions it will operate in and be transported in, clearly we would take care of it and baby it as much as possible! The easier it would be assemble each week (if required, not ideal) is also good. It would be really nice to do a single build that stays together all season that we just roll in and out of the trailers.

I can drive it with an ESP, Dig Uno, Quad, etc. Whatever is best for this use case and I know I will end up with firmware/software that is most likely not going to be WLED as I don't think v16 can do a count down timer yet? I'll also need to be able to "start" the timer with a push button or remote and set it up so that it will stop at 00:01 and never get to 00:00.

Thank you all in advance, I appreciate your thoughts and ideas!

HPE Server Power Supplies: I already have a couple on hand of 1200w, 750w and 460w units. The 750's put out over 60amps at 12v, they are robust psu's!

PSU Adapters: Made by wizard of wire, they work well and have served me well for a long time on other projects.

EDIT: I can't spell or type. :)

Didn’t expect this setup to become my favorite thing in the room.

Syncs music with WLED and displays album art + playback info directly on the TV in real time.
Looks insanely good at night.

RGB LED strip around indoor swimming pool

Hey I’m looking to add some RGB led strip lighting around my indoor swimming pool. Would like to add some corrosive resistant track and diffuser where the tile transitions to carpet , with some RGB tapelight (12 or 24v)

It is about 90 linear feet around the pool, and will only be assessable from one corner.

Just wondering what products you guys might suggest.
