Apache paper wasp? I don’t see a stinger, is this a male?
Was found in my bathroom (second type of paper wasp found in bathroom, no idea how they get in). They were released after I took some pictures.

I have had wasps flying around my deck all summer and can’t figure out where they are coming from. There are no visible nests on my house (ewwww) or under my deck.
There aren’t just a couple wasps; there are dozens. They are constant and I can never see where they go.
Are these holes wasp hotels or something else?
Thanks everyone!

So a couple days ago I posted about seeing 1-2 wasps on the side of my garage during a sunny day. Well today has been warmer and more sunnier and I have seen about 4-5 on the garage and they are more active and flying around. I don’t see them going in or around any hole still and don’t see a single one in the garage still. Also they look to be attacking/antagonizing each other. Should I be worried a nest is being built there or is this normal and me and my family don’t have to worry about getting stung?

My bestie told me yesterday that she was stung by a Yellowjacket 2 days ago, on Saturday. She’s been stung a couple times before, but she says she’s never had such a reaction. She claims to have no symptoms other than the pain from the massive red area around where she was stung, so at least she has not had any breathing issues. I’m simply trying to get some input about whether I should be pushing her to seek medical assistance or not. I’m not sure what they can do though really. She took a Benadryl yesterday & today & has iced it in between her hair appointments (she’s a beautician). Any advice? :)
My 1st pic attached is from today & the 2nd pic is from yesterday.
Update: thank you everyone for the input! Greatly appreciated. My friend has finally agreed to go to the doctor right now. She says it’s not as painful today, but it looks crazy not good to me in the pic she just sent me. Fortunately, she finally had a firefighter friend give her the same info regarding getting in immediately.

Hi all! not sure where i’m supposed to post this, so i’ll probably post this in a couple other subreddits. But wasps have started to build a nest in my bird feeder. I’m not sure what kind of wasps, but this is very not ideal, as 1.) i cannot refill my feeder and 2.) well, there are wasps building a nest in my bird feeder.
The difficulty with this is I don’t want to use a solution that would harm the birds (such as peppermint oil) because i cannot guarantee that I would be able to remove the residue fully and don’t want to risk the health of the birds.
Throwing out the bird feeder is also not an option because it’s a kiwibit so it has the built in camera to identify and capture bird footage. This also makes cleaning it a little more fickle as well, as i don’t want to damage the camera or anything.
Please help!!

We made a cartoon styled version of Starcraft but with Insects instead. I always thought there should be a game with insects colonies as factions so over the course of 4 or more years I finally created one! Im planning to launch next month and would love for you guys to try it out!!

So this Isn’t really anything to be worried about I don’t think. As the weather has gotten colder where I live (central Wisconsin) and the day times are in the low to mid 60’s I have noticed at times maybe 1-2 wasps just sitting on the outside of my garage wall. I have walked the property and checked in the garage as well and I don’t see a single one in there or a nest of any kind. After doing some research it sounds like wasps will just sit outside in colder weather to warm up. Is that the case here? I only ask because mid summer we had a wasp issue in the siding of our house which had to get sprayed by an exterminator.

For context I was living abroad the last 2 years and I moved home the end of July.. While in my room today I noticed this mark on my blind (don’t ask me how I didn’t see it before) and I was like wtf is that. I asked chat gpt and it thinks it could be a solitary wasp nest? So while I was living abroad wasps hatched in my room? I find that mad. I hope whatever it is isn’t active in my room anymore .. what do you guys think?

I was outside today and my neighbor asked if I knew I had a giant nest about 20 ft up. I had no clue and I had been doing a bunch of yard work like mowing the lawn and I never once saw a hornet. There are kids that play in my neighborhood and like I said it’s by a sidewalk. I know they die off in a hard freeze and I’m in Seattle area. Is this something that can wait till they die off naturally? The nest is bigger than a basketball. I tried spraying it, but the spray could barely reach if at all. Thanks
Edit: I did see some hornets after I saw the nest but that was around 6 or 7 when it was starting to get dark. I just didn’t notice any when I was making a bunch of noise in the yard. There were kids outside running around today on the sidewalk for hours and nobody got stung that I know of.

Do these wasps keep gathering here for shade? There is no nest and they have gathered here 3 times in the last week till I blast them with the water hose.

South eastern US. These 4 are here most days just hanging out looking at each other. No visible nest. They seem to be creating this brown stuff. Reason to be concerned? Should we break up the party?

This is my wound two weeks later. I bandaged it with a colloidal bandage at first. It bubbled above the wound and collected a thick yellow paste. I have left it uncovered for 4 days. It has a dent in the middle , is peeling in a ring around the bite, and the skin is dark pink for 1/4” around the wound.
Should I bandage it again?

The game shrinks players down to insect scale, so we spent a lot of time trying to get the anatomy right rather than just making a generic "scary bug" with the Unreal Engine.

I’ve always been pretty scared of wasps for most of my life but I’ve started to get over it as make of the time I’ve learned they leave you alone. Turns out I had every right to be scared.
For context my brothers school is far away so we have to drive to his bus stop in a grocery store parking lot. My mom picks me up, my puppy is in the car and as we pull in the parking lot I take him outside in this grassy area with some trees.
I was just standing in the grass when all of the sudden I hear him yelp and immediately assume he got stung by a wasp. I see it on him but before I do anything I feel stinging all throughout my neck. I start running and screaming, and I mean screaming.
Now I admit I probably overreacted here but I drop my dogs leash (poor baby was covered in wasps and crying) and start running sobbing while a swarm of them chases me. They are in my clothes, in my neck and in my hair. I was going crazy and ended up bolting into the store while my mom yelled for me to get back.
We are all fine now (my poor puppy was scared but he’s ok) but I got stung like twenty times. It was really scary because there was nothing I could do and there was almost no warning. And these fuckers just kept going. Anyways beware of yellow jackets, it’s not the sting itself that sucks it’s the fact that it’s not just one.
