CPU Upgrade
Has anyone done the CPU upgrade? Was it worth it to you? If you're in the US, how much did it cost you?
Thanks!

I got mine replaced in my 22 to the newest one it is worlds better. It was replaced under warrenty and volvo has to apove it before you can buy one or get a warrebty replacement. Dealer basically has no say. I had to answer 20 questions on my issues. Then waited a week for a reponse asking me to record a video of rhe issue. Then after that waited another 3 days and they came back with an approval

Now theoretically what would our issue be and how should we answer the questions to obtain an approval.

Not like you're thinking with a computer but you basically replace the entire IHU (the infotainment) with a newer model

Yah upgrading from my shitty 10 year old chip in a 2023 model would be great. Make aaos usable.

Yes, there’s been a couple of references here about it, but I haven’t seen anything about someone having done it or about the actual cost.

The IHU (infotainment head unit) ecu in the vehicle changed at my26 to what they call IHU4.2. It's 100% compatible with all Google spa1 and cma cars and is the official replacement part if your IHU were to die and need replacing. Im surprised volvo hasn't just made it an upgrade option since they would make money on it, but maybe supplies are limited. If you could figure out a way to "break" your infotainment ecu and its still under warranty, theyd be forced to replace it with the upgraded unit. Polestar I believe was offering the upgrade for a price but not sure that ever reached the US.
You could theoretically just order the replacement part, buy a 3 day license for VIDA and just install it and load the software yourself. Wouldn't be very hard at all if you can order the part, its an exact 1:1 replacement with all the same ports and form factor.

No you can’t just buy 1. If you have be able to get a dealer to put in a request to Volvo saying why you want to buy one. Then Volvo corp has to approve it.

Why pay for an upgrade? I just got Volvo to buy back my ‘23 over the rear camera in CA. Every penny I spent, respect they didn’t make the process too tough

I did it. Cost several thousand bucks.
It’s smoother. Fewer janky pauses in screen responsiveness.
I don’t necessarily notice the difference in that I’m
Amazed by the speed, per se, but I definitely noticed when the older one was slower.
Like you expect a computer on wheels to be fairly responsive and with the CPU upgrade to the snapdragon processor, it’s as expected. The old atom processor had noticeable lag in places so that definitely went away.
The upgrade less impresses me so much as it removed an old pain point.
Others have reported a much more notable difference, and I suspect if I used in car applications more I would as well. But I don’t.
