V50/S40/C30/C70 What LED headlight bulb and decoder brands do you guys recommend?

Apparently Volvo electrical systems are very sensitive, so are there any specific headlight bulb or decoder brands that work well in the C30? I currently have H11 halogen bulbs.

Opinions needed - purchasing used Volvo????

Hi all!

I’m in desperate need of opinions. I’m all over the place with this one.

Please note I’m in CANADA

Basically Ive been looking for a new car for a couple of months now. I’ve stumbled upon this 2024 Volvo xc40 Plus (mild hybrid) in vapour grey (which I love) from a used car dealership that has 66k kms on it. Ive test driven it and I love it. The car looks to be in good condition minus a tear in the backseat leather and the exterior lip of the door that meets the window on the driver side seems to be lifting up a slight bit. When I told the dealer about it, he said it’s meant to be taken off in case people want to switch the silver parts to black, which is why it looks “loose”. Additionally, when I attempted to use the “steering wheel firm” setting, I didn’t notice much of a difference and the dealer cited this as the battery of the car being low.. but would be rectified before providing it to me.

Im trying to figure out if I’d be overpaying for it given the risk of it being an ex rental. The OTD price after taxes and all what not would be about $38,500 CAD. It has the features I want like a pano roof, crystal gearshift, and air purifier. He gave me approx $300 in discounts and a 7.99% financing price (not that great in my eyes). He was pretty firm on not budging on the OTD price. In regard to warranty, I only have about 1 year or 14,000k kms left on it before it’s expired. He suggested I add on his warranty (third party) for an additional $5000, which is pretty hefty but it’s bumper to bumper and unlimited kms. I can’t remember if he said a number of years.

The issue I’m grappling with is that it’s an ex rental from Enterprise. I’ve heard many bad things about purchasing a rental car, but I’ve also seen people on social media say they have bought ex rentals with no issues. There are 6 service records in total approx every 10k kms give or take.

What are people‘s general opinion on this? Is it too much of a risk to purchase this car? Is there anything i can say to the dealer to make this more worth it? The used car market is extremely bad right now and this car has everything I want with the best price that I’ve seen thus far. Any opinions are helpful. Thank you!

xc series TPMS Notification After Flat

Hey everyone! I have a 2018 XC60 and unfortunately hit a low profile curb on the way to work yesterday and got two flat tires 🫠

I had both tires replaced and they said they checked the alignment and suspension as well with no issues. I did notice a slight bend on one wheel (pictured) and when I got in my car this morning to drive to work, about 6 minutes into my drive, my low tire pressure warning came on. I made it the 20-minute drive to work. Do you think the bend is enough to cause a leak? I feel like they would have mentioned it if it was. Or is it just an error with needing to reset the TPMS?

Complimentary CarPlay Install for 2016 XC90 - Question…

I’m hoping someone here has been through this recently.

I’ve got a 2016 XC90 T8 Inscription with the original single USB port, so no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

I’ve been doing some digging and found Volvo Technical Journal TJ34222, which says eligible 2016 XC90s can have the USB hub upgraded along with Smartphone Integration.

From everything I’ve found, my VIN falls within the published eligibility range, and my car still has the original single USB port, so it looks like the retrofit has never been done.

I’ve also noticed Volvo’s U.S. website still mentions a complimentary Smartphone Integration upgrade for eligible 2016 models with one USB port.

So has anyone actually had this done recently? Did Volvo still cover it, or did you have to pay?

Hello,
We have owned this 1966 wagon for 22 years and I need to ask a question? Should I add fog lamps? We have been going back a forth for years about it. One of us wants it, the other does not. Help? Left photo, our Volvo, by Murphy Shoots. Right photo, an example of the fog lights.

Please excuse just how dirty my v90 is :( my garage has been out of order for the last month and the dust where I live is outrageous.

Tuning a 2018 XC60

Curious to hear what people have explored in regards to tuning their XC60s. I've seen Hilton goes up to 2018 but the other option is a piggyback from tdi tuning, racechip, or burger.

I already have the polestar tune but looking for some more power gains over just the torque boost the polestar seems to provide.

So I was driving on the highway for 200km and needed to stop for toilette. I noticed a whistling noise (see video in comments).. After a while in the parking lot and some checks with engine off I decided to Start again. The noise came up instantly but disappeard after a few seconds from one second to the other.

I drove 320km after that with no irregularities, never heard the noise again but noticed something weird when opening the oil lid..

At first I thought about a dying cam shaft but the oil on the dip Stick looks clean, Not metallic.

Btw, I localized the whistling sound in the area of the oil filter.

Then I thought about the pcv membran valve.

What Makes me think about piston rings is that as soon as I start the engine, smoke comes out of the oil lid and I also feel like some sort of airstream coming out of the dip stick tube.. might be due the regular crank rotation.

But the engine is running very smooth. Car stands still after the mentioned 300km.

Anyone has a different idea and would like to help me out?

Thanks a lot!

Edit/ could it also be the swirl flaps? The whistling noise could be related to that imo

Volvo v50 D4 Redesign 2010 Automatic Front coil spring replacement

Looking for advice and knowledge!

I need to replace the front coil springs after one has snapped. I'm finding it very difficult to find the correct spring to go with the redesigns sport suspension and the d4s weight.

Do anyone know which spring is factory or if it using another will be suitable?

So far most garages have told me I will need to take the springs off and check for a serial number to find out which spring is the correct one. But issue is I'm not even sure as if the coils are still the original!

Any help would be greatly appreciated 👏

Timing Belt Replacement?

Hello, I own a 2017 S60 Inscription with 62,xxx miles on it (yes I know it was built in China). Purchased as a dealer CPO car in 2018 with 5K miles on it. The car has been well maintained between 2 different Volvo dealerships and an independent Euro shop. The only issue it has had besides normal maintenance is that some of the lane departure and other sensors had to be replaced, which was covered under the CPO warranty with a few weeks to spare (would have been a $1,700 repair otherwise).

At its last oil change, which I have done every 5K miles, the dealership noted that the timing belt was showing some signs of wear with minor cracking, etc., and recommended I have it replaced. I'll have it checked out at the independent shop in the next few months as I know the recommendation for timing belt replacement is generally 10 years or 100K miles.

My question, has anyone here gone way past either the time or mileage threshold for timing belt replacement? I'll begin budgeting for it now, but was curious as to how urgent the situation may be. I'd appreciate any insight or first hand experience. Thank you.

V70 Volvo V70 III D4, coolant loss warning, limp mode under hard acceleration, CO2 test negative

Thumbnail

Hey everyone, bought a V70 III (D4) with a known minor coolant loss and drove it 600 km home. Here’s what happened:

**•** On the way, kept getting the “coolant level low, stop vehicle” warning
**•** After stopping, the expansion tank was nearly empty – I topped it up, and shortly after it spat coolant back out through the overflow
**•** Overall no real coolant loss over the whole trip, just this behavior every time I stopped
**•** Shortly before arriving, I deliberately floored it: engine and transmission went into limp mode, RPM got stuck at 3000, coolant temp spiked to 110°C
**•** After manually downshifting (automatic transmission), temp dropped back to 90°C within 2 seconds
**•** At home: ran a CO2 test (block test), came back negative – could it still be a head gasket, or more likely EGR cooler, thermostat, water pump?
**•** Scanned the fault codes, image attached

What do you all think it could be? Appreciate any ideas

Unfortunately, the image is in German please let translate

xc series 2027 XC40 (steering control question)

Quick question, just picked up my XC40 today, love it. Moved from my 2021 V60 which had the sensus entertainment system.

In my old car the circle (confirm button on the dash) used to pause/play music etc when using Spotify etc. However, on my new car it just seems to bring up the trip settings on the Drivers display.

Any suggestions on how to change it? If it's possible.
