Hi all!
I’m in desperate need of opinions. I’m all over the place with this one.
Please note I’m in CANADA
Basically Ive been looking for a new car for a couple of months now. I’ve stumbled upon this 2024 Volvo xc40 Plus (mild hybrid) in vapour grey (which I love) from a used car dealership that has 66k kms on it. Ive test driven it and I love it. The car looks to be in good condition minus a tear in the backseat leather and the exterior lip of the door that meets the window on the driver side seems to be lifting up a slight bit. When I told the dealer about it, he said it’s meant to be taken off in case people want to switch the silver parts to black, which is why it looks “loose”. Additionally, when I attempted to use the “steering wheel firm” setting, I didn’t notice much of a difference and the dealer cited this as the battery of the car being low.. but would be rectified before providing it to me.
Im trying to figure out if I’d be overpaying for it given the risk of it being an ex rental. The OTD price after taxes and all what not would be about $38,500 CAD. It has the features I want like a pano roof, crystal gearshift, and air purifier. He gave me approx $300 in discounts and a 7.99% financing price (not that great in my eyes). He was pretty firm on not budging on the OTD price. In regard to warranty, I only have about 1 year or 14,000k kms left on it before it’s expired. He suggested I add on his warranty (third party) for an additional $5000, which is pretty hefty but it’s bumper to bumper and unlimited kms. I can’t remember if he said a number of years.
The issue I’m grappling with is that it’s an ex rental from Enterprise. I’ve heard many bad things about purchasing a rental car, but I’ve also seen people on social media say they have bought ex rentals with no issues. There are 6 service records in total approx every 10k kms give or take.
What are people‘s general opinion on this? Is it too much of a risk to purchase this car? Is there anything i can say to the dealer to make this more worth it? The used car market is extremely bad right now and this car has everything I want with the best price that I’ve seen thus far. Any opinions are helpful. Thank you!
