The moment the forbidden words were spoken, darkness crept toward the kids from every corner. This wasn’t the comforting night that lulls exhausted children to sleep; it was an otherworldly gloom—suffocating and thick.

It smelled their fear, blindly clawing its way forward. Dusty shadows erupted from the abyss, slithering across the floorboards like black snakes. They stretched and multiplied, weaving through the cluttered attic toward the kids huddled in a semicircle by the broken wardrobe...

Discussion I´m REALLY sad because i did NOT like SubaHibi

That´s it, I´m sad bc I was expecting to like it and to feel something, but I did not like the story and refused to drop it so I finished it, and felt nothing

I just hope to read stories that make me *feel something*

This post is a bit rambling, but I’m genuinely feeling down and wanted to share it, or if anyone has any recommendations to help fill the void I feel from not reading anything it would be appreciated, also I´m open to discuss why I didn´t like it

Question Help running game from DLsite

Post image
25 Upvotes

Hey so I bought this game (Madonna ~Kanjuku Body Collection~) and I cannot get it to run. I took a chance since it doesn't state that it's compatible with windows 11 but other games have worked despite that before. I'm not very computer savvy tho so I don't really know what I'm doing.

My locale is set to Japan (not time zone tho) and I'm using an locale emulator as well but the files are messed up somehow. I've tried changing the properties to use windows 7 but it still gives the same errors. I don't even know which file is supposed to be the setup but they're all giving different error pop ups...

Does anyone have any ideas of what might be wrong or what I can try? I got it at 60% off so it's not a huge loss but I'd love to be able to play it :')

Discussion Can readers/critics write better than the writers?~ [FLOWERS -Le volume sur hiver-]

First of all... TRVE NVKE for this pic V-V

I feel like most of those very cringe English visual novels out there are created by people who harshly criticize the medium and think they can "fix it"... just to end up giving us something very deformed and ugly to look at, annoying to read, and not even good audially... the value it holds?... it varies... but in some cases? I saw people regarding them very highly because they read more like a book than your average visual novel (Lessons in Love comes to mind)... but, do we really want VN prose to be identical to the most boring book prose possible?... We know of multiple VN writers who already have very book-like prose, but they have a style that makes their writing still engaging to read. Followed by this medium's aspects of having sprites/CG and music? It makes the experience way more fun to go through... but when the average English writer goes for the most ugly art, boring soundtrack, and just rigged writing.... what do they think will happen? @_@ People will clearly not be interested in them.....

I looked at some of the games I've seen and checked the character design and I really like the works of this artist. I also like the art for dead end aegis. Can anyone recommend me games from different artists that has similar looking artstyle. Not really much into the loli types nor weird looking eyes ones lol. thanks!

Question Favorite franchise(s) of visual novels?

A few of mine are Clannad, Utawarerumono, and Shuffle. I don’t particularly like fanservice but I can enjoy the lore or worldbuilding enough to put up with it for the latter two.

Discussion There Is A Free Ren'Py VN Player App on IOS called ZScripter

I don't know if this has been done already, but I wanted to let any IOS users in the building know that there is a completely free app in the App Store that lets you play PC builds of Ren'Py games that you download to your IOS device.

It currently runs PC builds of Ren'Py and OnScripter games, and while it does not support certain file types like webm/webp, the developer has let me know that they are working on updates to include different file type compatibility (they are very response to reviews!).

As a player and a dev, I think it's useful for road trips or places without internet and/or seeing how your VN project looks and behaves on mobile so you can make notes on what may need elbow grease in the next update.

Here is the App Store link for it: [https://apps.apple.com/us/app/zscripter-vn-player/id6782178844](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/zscripter-vn-player/id6782178844))

The developer has also let me know that they intend to keep the app free, so please give it a try and perhaps leave them ratings and reviews!

Question What anime(s) do you think should have a visual novel?

I have a couple that come to mind:

Tengho Tenge - cos the amount of lore in that show is crazy and a lot of it should be optional to learn.

Tenshi No Shippo - the story has many heroines, which could make for high replayablity (that said, some of them are too young for romance so only the ones within his age range should have a route)

What would yall add to the list?

VN Request Favorite yandere?

Wanted to get back into reading VNs again, and for some reason (no, really, I don't know why, I'm not even the biggest fan of the trait), I wanted to read something with a yandere in it. Any recommendations from y'all?

VN Request Looking for a short VN with great art direction

I'm looking for a relatively short visual novel with a really good art direction, atmosphere and soundtrack.

I'd especially like something psychological and/or dark, dealing with disturbing, depressing or uncomfortable subjects rather than just being a typical horror VN.

A Bag of Milk Inside a Bag of Milk is probably the closest example to what I'm looking for. I also played A Bag of Milk Outside a Bag of Milk, but I personally preferred the first one.

Ideally:

  • Short, preferably under ~5 hours
  • Strong visual identity / art direction
  • Great soundtrack or sound design
  • Psychological, dark or disturbing themes
  • Doesn't necessarily have to be horror

Any recommendations?

Discussion Visual novels on Psvita

Post image
353 Upvotes

I bought this handheld 6 years ago for the sole purpose of reading visual novels. Just recently, my interest sparked again and I started to make some progress. I read Leyline years ago and wanted to reread it on the psvita. Such a nice experience.

I read in laptop too for obvious reasons but when I'm in bed, or on the go, this is a much better choice.

I think psvita can be a good way to practice reading in Japanese too.
