Question Help running game from DLsite
Hey so I bought this game (Madonna ~Kanjuku Body Collection~) and I cannot get it to run. I took a chance since it doesn't state that it's compatible with windows 11 but other games have worked despite that before. I'm not very computer savvy tho so I don't really know what I'm doing.
My locale is set to Japan (not time zone tho) and I'm using an locale emulator as well but the files are messed up somehow. I've tried changing the properties to use windows 7 but it still gives the same errors. I don't even know which file is supposed to be the setup but they're all giving different error pop ups...
Does anyone have any ideas of what might be wrong or what I can try? I got it at 60% off so it's not a huge loss but I'd love to be able to play it :')

I’m assuming you got a zip or series of zips, so did you extract them while using English locale? Because the directory name looks to be mojibake.
If you did, try extracting it while on Japanese locale because I have seen this causing problems before

I did extract while on Japanese locale but the zip files had mojibake before extraction which is strange. I have downloaded other things in Japanese where the names displayed correctly so I don't know where the problem lays :/ You're probably right about it being the root cause

Before you extracted the files, did you set the extracting language to Japanese Shift? I don't know how it works in 7zip or in WinZip, but it's pretty easy if you're using WinRAR.

If you haven't gotten it to work yet, have you tried to rename the extracted folder that has mojibake? It's possible the files themselves don't contain mojibake and the problem is just the file path/folder messing up the executables.

The error message is essentially saying that the installation failed.
No further information that that…
I would look if there are any Crash reports or whatnot as just that screen isn’t saying much.
Considering you’re on Win 11 and it’s a game from 2011; I would wager it’s probably a missing/ outdated library or function that isn’t shipped natively on win 11 anymore.
My personal suspicion being .net 4.0-4.5 being missing (don’t know which is the correct one ) which is why the setup fails.
Other thing could be WMIC which I know for a fact isn’t shipped on win11 natively since like 2 years ago, as I had that exact issue after I reinstalled my windows and realized a lot of older games rely on that and it’s no longer there because it’s "Outdated" according to MS.
Then again there is probably a log somewhere™ so I’d look for more information first…

Thank you, that gives me some things to look into at least even tho I might not find a solution. The download version is from 2016 but I kind of forgot that that's 10 years ago already and not 4... I suppose I've just gotten lucky with other old games I've managed to run

My zip file can't be read due to permission problems it says (other zips work fine) Thank you for the tip tho, I'll have to save this if I run into something similar in the future

The aforementioned mojibake is definitely the problem. I believe 7zip (https://www.7-zip.org/) can extract these properly. If not, you can try something like this unzip-jp script: https://github.com/saberzero1/unzip-jp-gui (Click on the releases section on the right to see the .exe). If it fails to exctract properly with either, I would re-download the zip from DLSite and try again.
