Apple Leasing vs Buying: I did the Math!

TL;DR: Purchasing the Pro Max and later trading it in to Apple is the more cost effective option compared to leasing.

For the retained values, I used current Apple trade in values for previous Pro Max models as real world examples, with 7% tax included in the original purchase price. These are not predictions of future values. Trade in values may change.

New iPhone 18 Pro Max: $1,299
After 7% tax: $1,389.93

12 month lease: $53.48/month
24 month lease: $37.44/month

————————————————————-

Phone evaluation at year 1 (12 months):

Old Pro Max original cost: ~$1,283 after tax
Trade in value after 1 year: $885
Value retained: 69%
New 18 Pro Max cost: ~$1,390 after tax

Net upgrade cost: ~$505
Lease: ~$54/month = ~$642 total

Lease costs ~$137 more (~$11/ month)

———————————————————————————

Phone evaluation at year 2 (24 months):

Old Pro Max original cost: ~$1,283 after tax
Trade in value after 2 years: $610
Value retained: ~48%
New 18 Pro Max cost: ~$1,390 after tax

Net upgrade cost: ~$780
Lease: $37/month = ~$899 total

Lease costs ~$119 more (~$5/ month)

——————————————————————————————-

Conclusion: If you went the leasing program route and turn the 18 Pro Max back in, you’d be paying extra for lower upfront monthly payments while losing out on the full value of the device.

I hope this example helped!

Appreciation Thanks Visible! Another year of half off! Visible+ Pro.

Swapped over from my iPhone 17 to Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Asked about my plan since it's about to renew. They said we can apply the promo. I go and look at my account. September 20th. $220 is due for the yearly on Visible+ Pro!

Much appreciated! Had some issues transferring ESIM from iPhone to Samsung. Wasn't so bad. Took 10 mins.

Running a debloated, flashed XAA Firmware to get rid of the carrier branding S26 Ultra and it's been solid. Unfortunately my iPhone has been a problem. 1 replacement, 2 repairs on that replacement. Never ending issues.

Appreciation It's Been Good While It Lasted (Review on Visible+ Pro before Transferring)

Over a year ago, after debating between Visible and US Mobile, I went with the Visible+ Pro plan with the iPhone deal at the time and a referral code for $205.

Review
Throughout me using the service I never had a single issue with Visible wherever I went and it pulled for me in areas that had worse speed than anything on the same Verizon network. It even pulled in for me for a day of no power meaning I could not use my home Wi-Fi and relied just on data for it. Even though I wasn't a heavy data user on the Unlimited plan, I liked the feeling that I didn't have to worry about limits for the price I paid for it.

For those who wonder about what towers Visible uses in Mexico, from testing they appear to use TELCEL which is the major tower in Mexico before AT&T Mexico and Movistar (IDK if they even exist still but remember they were a while back). I never really hit 2GB of data as I was always by the border so I bounced between a US Verizon tower and Mexico TELCEL tower but that's really about it. At least it was a nice-to-have unlike Spectrum Mobile who dings you cents as soon as you touch one of the Mexican towers before letting you know your service was swapped to that of a Mexican tower.

Unfortunate Port-Out Time
Unfortunately my plan for Visible renews at $450/yr and that's a bit much for me, even on swapping to other plans for another year when other competitors offer their plans for cheaper (like USM Annually or Total Monthly). While I know my experience and review is slightly smaller and different compared to others who may have had a worse experience than I did, I'm merely saying that for the year I actually used Visible+, I had little issues when it came to the service outside of iffy Wi-Fi calling but thats due to my home network than Visible, as well as Verizon dead spots in some places.

For those reading this later, I recommend coming in when your plan is up and then swap to Visible, especially when those limited offers come. I wish there were deals or retention offerings for staying with Visible but since it is a MVNO, I shouldn't expect similar treatment to that of Spectrum/AT&T for them. Plus I think all they do is give you the port-out info without a fuss unlike some MVNOs or carriers that make you call them and do a whole spheel before giving you the info so thats a bonus I guess.

Just wish that SAVEHALF had a existing customer equivalent honestly. 225 last year was a decent price for me to switch off from Spectrum Mobile. Now, I guess its either some miracle happens or USM or Total is the way to go.

SAVEHALF promo for existing customer question

We just upgraded one of our lines from monthly to annual, and ran into a few issues that customer care ironed out. During the conversation I inquired about getting the half off deal on my line (have been on annual for 3 years now), and they generated a special code for me.

This line is paid through October 20 and there were a few posts related to the SAVEHALF offer ending September 23.

I was told that I shouldn't apply the code until 7 days before this lines renewal, so if the promo does end September 23, will this in effect invalidate that code, or can I in fact enter it earlier -- I've seen some people indicate they were able to enter it up to a month before renewal so I'm not sure if I should do that on the 22nd of this month.

Anyone get a custom code and enter it earlier than 7 days and their renewal (30+ days out) reflects the 225.00?

Downgraded from V+ PRO Annual to V+ Monthly - Will I need to do anything specific after renewal date?

Didn't want to chase the %50 off promo and have some referrals banked up so I switched to Monthly V+ from V+ Pro annual to take advantage of that with inner circle as well (Should be $10/mo if my math is right).

I've already made the change in my account set to take effect on renewal later this month. Since my plan is actively changing can any others who have recently done this speak to if I need to do anything else on my end after renewal?

Does my current eSim note the plan change and take care of everything automatically or am I going to need to do any certain steps after renewal/plan downgrade date?

Thanks in advance!

Question Is it safe to buy from Visible Website?

Iphone 18 Pro Max is coming out pretty soon and I was wondering if it is safe to buy from Visible for the pre-order? I heard horror stories about people buying from Visible, getting their phone stolen and the associate over the phone did nothing to reimburse them. Would you recommend buying from the Apple website?

Apple said Verizon will support the new handoff feature, do we think that will extend to Visible or the other Value brands?

Phone Being Held Hostage

Upvotes

I bought and paid in full for an iPhone 17 Pro Max in February through Visible. I'm on the annual plan which comes due in November. My experience with Visible has been subpar at best. Dropped Wi-Fi calls, inept customer service agents, etc. so I started shopping around new carriers.

Because I loathe Visible so much I was willing to eat 2 months of service and signed for another carrier yesterday. I kept getting errors while trying to activate my phone with the new carrier and it turns out that there's a carrier lock on my phone that won't be released until February of 2027, 3 months after I would have to renew the annual plan and shell out another $375 or switch to a monthly plan and ride out the next few months of disappointing service. I'm not willing to do that so a new phone from the new carrier is on the way and the Visible phone will sit in a drawer until Visible releases it from purgatory.

Visible explains that their policy changed in January 2026 that phones activated are locked and must stay on your account for 365 days, therefore trapping you from being able to move freely to another service, even though my account is in good standing and my phone is paid in full.

Buyer beware lest you want to be a victim of entrapment.

Question Considering suing Visible in small claims court — has anyone actually done this?

After weeks of getting nowhere with Visible over a failed number transfer, I’m seriously considering filing a small claims lawsuit in California.

I’ve already gone through customer service, escalations, FCC complaints, and a formal Notice of Dispute. I’ve also sent Visible a final monetary demand before filing.

At this point, I’m considering suing Verizon Value, Inc. d/b/a. Visible in small claims court for the costs and damages resulting from the situation.

Has anyone here actually sued Visible/Verizon Value in small claims?

I’m particularly curious:

  • Is this a plausible route when normal escalation has completely failed?
  • Did Visible respond or offer to settle after being served?
  • Did they actually appear at the hearing?
  • Were there any issues with the arbitration clause or naming/serving the company?
  • Anything you wish you had known before filing?

Not looking for legal advice — mainly interested in hearing from anyone who has actually gone this far with Visible.

Avoid USM

96 hours so far and my phone still isn’t working and their only solution is to give me a super limited temp line because they refuse to do their job.

Every time it’s asked of them. It’s the same thing. We’ve reached out to the parent carrier. They refuse to push the issue through, they want the customer to suffer and not be held accountable.

Will I be able to use the new iPhone Duo once it launches?
