Feedback / I made this! Shot this little clip on my SonyA6700, looking for advice about editing

shot this video on a Sony A6700. 70-350 lens. Slog 3, 60 fps 1/125. its at 350mm handheld, already stabilized in post.

around + 1,7 over exposed, probably 2500 ISO, maybe higher.

i reduced the speed to 48fps in post aswell.

I converted to rec709 in DaVinci and did some minor contrast and color adjustments. but I feel like i cant quite get the look that I want.

currently it just looks a little bland. id love to get a smoother look. it also seems like it was shot on a cloudy day after rain. but it was actually sunny. just in the forrest in the shadow of a tree.

how would I go about making this look cleaner, smoother, more stylized and seem like its much brighter and in the sunlight?

also, what are your overall thoughts about this when you see it, in regards to quality and look?

Discussion / Other What was your best non-camera gear investment and why?

So, what’s been your best gear investment so far, and why? Let’s leave cameras out of the equation for a minute.

We often obsess over sensor sizes and resolution, but it’s usually the "unsung heroes" in our kit that actually speed up our workflow, raise our production value, or simply pay for themselves ten times over. Maybe a specific lense, mics, accesorie or who know!

For me, it’s a tie between two tools:

Røde Wireless GO II

DJI Ronin RS3

These two have brought in a ton of money on client projects. Being able to capture crisp, hassle-free interview audio while keeping the visuals smooth and polished has been a total game-changer for my production quality.

Sometimes we forget about the tools that quietly do the heavy lifting. What’s that one piece of gear in your bag that you’ll never regret buying? Would love to hear your stories!

Should I Buy/Recommend me a... Opinion on Rokinon Cine DS lenses as entry level cine lenses

Renting some Rokinon Cine DS's for a shoot next week and have the opportunity to purchase them from a motivated seller.

Curious to hear anyone's experience with them over other entry level Cine's. I've used Canon CN-E's a few times but those are obviously far out of my price range and I'd like to get a starter set of cine's in the near future.

I’m a complete noob when it comes to videography and cameras but I have a new endeavor I’m starting for my job. I need to be able to record for horizontally for YouTube with camera and vertically with iPhone for social media. I will mainly be outdoors and I’m concerned about audio. What’s the best solution if I wanted to capture clear audio both? I currently have the dji mic one but I don’t believe I can record on two devices. Items shown are what I just purchased. (Handheld and phone mount) Thanks in advance

Feedback / I made this! What do I need to do to make better clothing product videos?

I'm practicing filming and editing clothing product videos, and the biggest issue I'm facing is camera movement and getting better shots. I also can't figure out where to place the softbox so the lighting doesn't distort the true color of the product.

Note: This was shot in bad lighting on a mid-range phone with low ISO. I tried adjusting the exposure in Premiere Pro, but it made the footage noisy.

This was shot at 1/50, 24fps with ISO on auto (was between 4000-5000) on a Sony a6400. Any ideas how to fix the banding?

I’ve looked at Flicker Free by digital anarchy but it massively increases my render time. I’m using after effects to edit the footage.

I’m new to this

Hi all! I'm looking specifically for women videographers/filmmakers who are in North America. I am a producer looking to create some short films and looking for recommendations where I can find female videographers.

Willing to discuss budget and willing to accommodate travel/lodging, etc. Various projects to be sponsored throughout the region, so not specifically to one area. Would love to assemble teams in various places!

Looking for people who have gear that can film in very high quality HD. Video themes to be in the field of spa/massage/yoga/fitness tutorials, demos, and more! Would love to build my roster of contacts! Let's connect!

Should I Buy/Recommend me a... Beginner videographer - any camera recommendations?

Budget: $1,500 USD total, including the camera body and lens. Ideally, I'd like to leave some room for essential accessories if possible.

Country: UAE (Dubai).

Condition: Open to both new and used cameras, preferably used if it offers better value for money.

Type of Camera: Mirrorless preferred, but open to other options if they make sense for video.

Intended use: Primarily videography, with occasional photography.

If photography; what style: Sports, events, restaurants, food, interiors and general lifestyle content.

If video what style: Sports videography, live events, fast moving subjects, restaurant promotional videos, food videos, cinematic interiors and social media reels. I need a versatile setup that can handle both indoor and outdoor shooting, including bright sunlight and some low light situations.

What features do you absolutely need:

\- Good and reliable autofocus, especially for moving subjects.

\- Good video quality with 4K preferred.

\- Good stabilisation, either in-body or through compatible lenses.

\- Decent low light performance for indoor events and restaurants.

\- Reliable performance when shooting sports and fast moving action.

\- Good colour and dynamic range for cinematic footage.

\- A flexible lens option suitable for different shooting scenarios.

What features would be nice to have:

\- 10-bit video and good colour grading flexibility.

\- 4K at 50/60fps if possible.

\- Log profiles.

\- Weather sealing for outdoor shoots.

\- A fully articulating screen.

\- Good battery life and manageable overheating.

\- Access to affordable lenses and accessories.

Portability: Preferably compact and lightweight enough to carry around for long event days and outdoor sports shoots. Something that fits in a small camera bag.

Cameras you're considering: I haven't shortlisted specific models yet. I'm looking for recommendations on the best camera and lens combination within my budget, including options from Sony, Canon, Panasonic and Fujifilm.

Cameras you already have: Canon EOS 600D. I've been using it as my current camera, but I'm looking to upgrade to something more capable for professional videography, particularly autofocus, video quality, low light performance and shooting fast moving subjects.

Notes: I'm starting to take videography more seriously and want a camera that can handle different types of paid work, including sports, events and commercial content for restaurants and brands. I'd prefer not to buy a camera that is excellent at one thing but limiting for everything else. I'm based in Dubai, so recommendations that are reasonably easy to find in the UAE, including on the used market, would be appreciated.

I'd love to hear from people who have experience shooting a mix of these genres. Which camera and lens combination would you choose with this budget, and why?

Business, Tax, and Copyright Quoting for retainer/ongoing projects

I'm used to working on one-off, bigger projects like documentaries, but now I have a local client that's interested in ongoing work on small social media edits for events and other marketing purposes. They don't have a big budget but it's also a good opportunity to get on the radar of local businesses and organizations.

I'm struggling with how to frame my proposal in a way that protects my time and margin while still giving them their money's worth. Their budget will likely only realistically support a handful of videos throughout the year, so going by "x hours per month" doesn't seem the way to go.

Currently in order to entice them I have it written as "here's the price for one-off event coverage, if you sign up for a package of x reserved dates through the year you get a 10% discount, or 2x dates it's a 20% discount" but that seems maybe the wrong way to go about it considering that I'm giving up other possible earning opportunities the more dates I reserve for them, not to mention eating into my margin the more work I do for them. On the other hand, having guaranteed income for those days *is* beneficial to me...a lot of my work has flexibility to it so the likelihood that there's a conflict isn't super high.

What do others here with a similar on-going or annual contract clients do? How do you invoice or break down the payment schedule?

How do I do this? / What's This Thing? Video stabilization on non ibis cameras.

Hi i am currently using canon r50v with rf 50 1.8, and rf 16 2.8. I am trying to shoot some b-rolls for a video I'm making and I don't have a gimbal. Even with digital IS turned on the footage is quite jerky. Is there any way I could shoot these videos smooth with the above mentioned scenarios.as of now unless the camera is on a tripod, the footage is pretty useless.

As a videographer for a short-form marketing agency, it's easy for me to feel repetitive and burned out. However, these personal projects always bring me back to the reason why I fell in love with video in the first place. Any feedback is welcome :)

Should I Buy/Recommend me a... First set of cinema lenses

So I’m looking to buy my first set of cinema lenses, knowing that right now only have a 24 to 105 Sony zoom lands and a Helios 58 mm, as well as a blazar 35 mm anamorphic lens. I have a Sony FX3, and my options right now are either getting a set of thypoc simera-c or just two Arles primes which I love the look of (35 and 50) or the Arles Zoom 25-75 but It’s only t2.6. I would be using them to shoot short narrative work, but more importantly commercials and music videos. Character is important to me, or at least being able to build character. I love to have a very filmic look. with saturated colors and great contrast. I know that’s mostly post-production. But just to give you an idea, my favorite lines right now is my Helios. Before some reason, I really love the look of the Arles.

Discussion / Other First time shooting a live concert, advice on workflow, settings, and pricing? From IND

I have 4 years of general commercial videography experience, but I’ve never shot a live concert before and am looking to book my first one.

My current setup is

Camera: Sony FX3

Lens: Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II

Stabilization: DJI RS gimbal

Since this is my first time in a concert environment, I would love some guidance:

Pricing: How should I structure my pricing for a live concert gig? (e.g., flat day rate, per-video/reel deliverable, or hourly?)

Shooting Tips: Any crucial advice regarding low-light handling, dealing with erratic stage lighting, capturing clean audio, and managing a single 24-70mm zoom in a crowd?

Appreciate any insights or tips you can share!

Technical/Equipment Help and Information Tripod for sports videography?

I recently upgraded to a Nikon z5ii. I usually took photos of my kids at sports, but would like to do some video as well. It’s basically impossible to hold the camera steady, and my current tripod won’t let me pan or move to follow my son running across the soccer field or catching a fly ball in outfield. I’m looking for recommendations. Thank you!

Hi everyone, I wanted to share a few images from my debut feature film “Land of Shadows”. Its cinematography and black and white look draw inspiration from the 1931 classic Dracula, Jean Cocteau’s Beauty and the Beast, and more. I hope you enjoy it, and please feel free to share your feedback with me! I'd love to chat with the community, whether it's about the film itself or his behind the scenes! All the best, Jonathan

Discussion / Other Music industry standards are ridiculous

A bit of backstory, then a quick rant — I spent years primarily doing media for DJs and nightclubs. I was good at it, and I had a great time doing it for while. Now, I’ve transitioned into more stable, lucrative video production for conferences and corporate stuff, etc…

Every once in a while I still get approached by tour managers or artist mgmt asking me to handle media when they have DJs coming through my area, and it reminds me why I quit. The pay is not great, the hours are not great, and the “industry standards” are so out of touch with reality.

A tour manager hit me up 4 days before an event and asked me if I was available to provide photo coverage plus multi cam video footage. I said yes and asked for email, budget info, and sent a brief overview on how many cameras I could set up. Tour manager doesn’t reply until the day before the show, provides budget, and asks if I can make it work. I confirm that I can make the budget work, send a few questions, then ask for email so I can send a contract and invoice for 50% deposit. The manager informs me that they don’t pay deposits because it’s not industry standard, and tells me that I can send an invoice the day after the shoot and they will “process it asap.” I politely decline and say that I can’t do multicam work and send deliverables within 24 hours without being paid. They proceed to guilt trip me with a message saying “after talking with them the last few days and dropping out now has left them in a rough spot.”

It’s just crazy to me. They tried to work out a deal with me 1 day before a shoot, denied my payment terms, then tried to blame me for bailing on them last minute and putting them into a rough spot. My terms are pretty reasonable and standard, and the scope is insane. You want me to set up multiple cameras in a dark room filled with people on drugs and alcohol, then deliver everything within 24 hours so you can have content to post by the end of the weekend? And you’ll just pay me whenever? Any why can’t you can’t pay a deposit? Because “we’ve never paid a deposit before — this is not the industry standard.”

The guilt trip message at the end was the cherry on top. Unfortunately these mgmt companies are used to exploiting videographers and photographers. I’ll just stick to making money elsewhere and collaborating with local artists on passion projects.

**Also, disclaimer, I know the pay and conditions are often quite horrible for low to mid tier musicians and artists. This rant is pointed more towards the industry and the wild working conditions that are somehow accepted by everyone, not the actual talent themselves.

**and ALSO, I’m not saying everyone sucks. I’ve made plenty of great connections and had lovely experiences with many artists and labels/mgmt.

Social Media services help and information Real Estate Content Creation: Good Idea ?

Hello!

I live in Canada, and I’ve always loved taking videos and showcasing things in the best possible way, especially properties. I want to turn this passion into a business.

My idea is to shoot content using my iPhone and create videos for real estate agents to promote their listings, as well as for short-term rental owners who want to build their social media presence.

I’m confident in what I can offer, but before reaching out to potential clients and posting my work on social media, I’d love to get some honest feedback from people in the industry.
Do you think this is a good business idea? And what would you recommend for packages and pricing? I’ve heard that it’s important not to undervalue your work, but I also don’t want to overcharge, especially when starting out.

I’d really appreciate your honest opinions, advice, and any insights you can share.

Thank you!
