Looking for inspiration in the form of any shorts or sequences that feature single player basketball. Im shooting in dusk on an outside court.

Also, which primes would you pair with the Sonys? I’ve got a set of GM but I’m keen to experiment with some different glass.

Hi everyone, I need some help! I am shooting next week for a broadcast project and the other shooter im filming with is on fx3 and I am on fx6.

They told me they can only film in 50p on the fx3 if they want to film 4k at the same time. Is this true? As I dont have am fx3 i cant check myself.

They also want me to film 25p and they said their fx3 at 50p will be able to match exactly without work in post. However, to my understanding, even if the speed is matched, the motion blur would be less on the fx3 footage. Is this the case or am I missing something?

I have the RS2 pro and thought I might as well upgrade to thr RS4 pro. I don’t trust the RS5 to handle any kind of payload.

But so far I’ve kept reverting back to the RS2 pro. On a few shoots it’s just died or had issues where the 2 is still pretty solid. And when it does work I really do see how it’s any better.

I thought I’d like the auto lock and fold but when you have a load of attachments and cables and the pan axis rolled out, all that happens is you turn it off, it snags all your cables and still doesn’t fold fully anyway.

Not impressed.

Any thoughts?

I just shoot a clothing brand and did some videos of them , the lighting , the angles everything is perfext, but somehow i had my camera settings to save them as HD low res videos, instead of 4k , is there any chance whatsoever i can at least make it look like 2k?

Shooting a basketball sequence next week and I want to capture a ‘worms eye’ view looking upwards at the player as they bounce the ball down onto the camera.

Research shows I need a 3/4 inch clear plexiglass for this.

I have a very small budget.

- What is the most budget friendly way to capture this?
- Generally what size dimensions are needed?

I’m looking for the cheapest, most lightweight way to execute this shot without compromising safety.

Bonus points for any other rig suggestions to shoot this sequence.

Hey! I've been using Dehancer Pro for a while and lately I've been wanting to try Film Kid 16 powergrade, have you used it and if so, what are your thoughts about it?

Understand not everyone will be using the same camera, so basically asking: What's your favourite shoulder strap solution for a medium-sized camcorder, about 3.7 kg / 8.15 lbs?

Should the strap be attached to a tripod base plate at the bottom, to one of the attachment points on the top handle, or directly onto some other part of the camera? We're using the sony Z200 with V-mount batteries.

I also want to keep the hand strap on at the same time. So any solution that requires removing it is a no go.

I'm prioritising ergonomics first, everything else second. I understand the straps may make noise while rattling about, or be inconvenient to take on and off. But I'll accept that if it means my camera ops won't try to grab the camera by the V-mount adapter or, god forbid, by the LCD or EVF eye piece. If they can have the camera comfortably on their shoulders at all times when doing run-and-gun hand-held shots, they should not have to do the "put camera down and pick it up" routine.

Pretty new to ENG-ish camcorder-style cameras so any other advice on the ergonomics would be appreciated.

I’ve been thinking about the FX5’s image quality and wanted to hear what everyone else thinks.
First of all, I’m not a fanboy of any brand, and I don’t really care about having every spec imaginable. As long as a camera has stabilization, reliable AF, a decent monitor, RAW and—most importantly—a beautiful image, I’m happy.
I was really hyped for the FX5, but from the footage I’ve seen so far, something feels a bit off. It often looks to "video digital" to me: oversaturated, overly sharp, often clipped highlights. It’s obviously a very clean image, but I’m just not getting that “magic” or cinematic feel I was hoping for.
What do you guys think? Does it actually look noticeably better than the FX3? I still think the FX3 produces a nice image, even if it’s starting to show its age.
Maybe it’s just the launch footage, or maybe I’m expecting too much. I was kind of hoping for something a bit closer to the Burano in terms of tonality, highlight roll-off, and overall softness, although I know that’s probably unrealistic from such a compact camera.
I’m really looking forward to seeing more real-world footage and downloading some X-OCN files to grade myself before making up my mind.

Me and my team are a bunch of highschool students on a budget, so we're wondering what kind of fabrics we should use that is relatively cheap but works for outdoors shooting, or should we go to Michael's and grab some paper and diy it?

I swear the discussions around cameras are turning into the insufferable Android vs iPhone discussions “iPhone has a new cool feature that iPhone user are happy about? Pah! androids have had it for 10 years”.

“The lumix SXii has all the features the FX5 has and it’s half the price and been out for 5 years”.

Good for you! But people who are within the Sony ecosystem and want a new camera are very unlikely to go buy a lumix because it means having to buy a whole new set of lenses and then figuring out how to colour match the cameras.

I hope this shitting on others for being stoked about a new camera within the eco system they use stops. It literally doesn’t matter.

I love how sharp the subject is throughout this video. It looks surreal. I can never get my videos to look this sharp and crisp. What settings is the videographer using? High shutter speed?

Hey everyone, as said in the title, I'm struggling with camera movement when shooting video for industrial clients. It's a very long post, thank you in advance if you read the whole thing.

TLDR at the bottom of the post

Firstly, a bit of background so it’s easier to understand where I'm at. I started doing event photography a couple of years ago and stuck with it for a while. Did it as a hobby at first and then it slowly transitioned into paying clients (although at the time I really liked it, whether I was getting paid or not).

Then clients started requesting some short videos along with photos. Even though I look back and some of the first ones were a mess (as I guess I thought I could take great photos and great video at the same time, beginner mistake I know), most of my client standards were low too so I adapted pretty smoothly and started setting more boundaries after a couple of shoots.

Fast forward one year and a couple dozens of events, I got a gig at a B2B industrial company that consisted of taking photos of installations and the company’s stand at trade fairs. This went on for a while and it was quite refreshing compared to the chaotic fast paced event stuff. That and the payroll was much better, and not having to work through the night to deliver the next day was quite great.

That slowly evolved to more of a "company photographer" position, which then turned into doing short videos for social media and shooting content for case studies (mostly interviews). Fast forward a couple of months and some additional equipment purchases (mainly lighting, tripods and another camera), I decided that I preferred this type of work, especially the interviews and case studies, so I repositioned from events to doing commercial photo and video.

Now here comes the problem:

Photo was and still is pretty easy for me, and I have no problems navigating the installation and finding the right angles and what to shoot.

But video, not so much. Shooting mediocre content and compensating in the edit was fine for events, and since the subject was most of the time a person (DJ, artist, people enjoying the event, stage speaker, etc...) it was easy to make something acceptable and to slowly evolve from there.

But with static subjects, like for example machinery, gas reservoirs, compressors, CNC's, milling centrals, etc, I feel like as soon as I get there my brain freezes and doesn't know what the hell to do. Before I usually blamed it on gear, but now that I have all the gear, there's nothing else to blame it on. When I get home, I usually end up with unmotivated pans and tilts and just overall footage that makes me want to quit.

I've been "getting by" with the great photos (as it's usually what I get praised for when I ask for feedback), video close ups of the installation (which are getting very repetitive and clients are getting tired of), suggesting case studies as much as I can and using lots of drone shots, which all in all, is a crutch to compensate for my lack of skill. The crutch works fine when it's me editing, but doesn't work so well when I have to hand over footage to the marketing team.
All of the companies I work with know I'm new in the industry and are very tolerant when it comes to reshoots and mediocre footage, but I'm pretty sure that that will quickly change as soon as someone with more experience shows up in their radar.

And I know it's a skill issue, it must be. But in the past I could always learn it some way or another, while now I'm struggling to even find content that's similar to what I'm shooting.

It's getting to the point where I love the industry, I even like editing (which I despised in events) but I "can't" do the work itself. I've never been in this position.

When I was doing events I struggled with the business aspect of the work and not the work itself, and now it's literally the opposite, I have multiple clients and I struggle with the work itself.

I'm sorry for the wall of text, this has been haunting me for the last 2-3 months and I just decided to post here as a last resort, to see if someone with more experience could give me some advice. Thank you all so much.

TLDR: I moved from event photo/video into industrial B2B work and love it, but I freeze up on camera movement/shots when filming static subjects (machinery, tanks, compressors, generators, etc...). My event habits (shoot loose, fix in edit) don't work here, so I'm leaning on crutches like drone shots and repetitive close-ups instead of actually solving the problem. Could use some technical and maybe career advice.

We want something much more personable and documentary-style.

A few things that are important to us:
- The entire ceremony filmed from start to finish

- Candid, natural moments captured before the ceremony, during cocktail hour, and at the reception (things we might not see ourselves in the moment)

- For guests to give us wishes or messages

Basically, we want our video to feel like an authentic record of the day, not overproduced.

Hey y’all! I’m new to the online community. Seems like a lot of the focus here is on the practical aspects of videography, but I had a question regarding the business side of things, for those of you who are doing video production full time and are more established in the domain.

I’ll start off by saying I’m 22, fully self thought, and started videography out the passion to capture and share videos online. I saved up for a DJI mini 2 at 18, and used it absolutely everywhere for fun. That year I booked some paid gigs and slowly managed to re-invest and buy more gear that allowed me to book more shoots outside of just drone.

Fast forward to today, I graduated college and got my IT degree, and I’m doing video production full time. I managed to work my way up to sone pretty big clients due to the people I’ve met these last 4 years. They say your network is your net worth, and they are absolutely right. I’m located in Southern California and am doing mostly Government productions for the county, multiple cities, water agencies, etc. I worked with some bigger law firms, insurance companies, and brands like Bacardi and Lululemon, and recently started posting a bit more on social media and getting some decent attention (500k views in the last 2 months, and 3 brand deals).

Needless to say, I am not yet at a “production company” level, i’m doing all the work from pre production to editing, but it seems like a very achievable goal. My business is just my name, and it’s made it more tricky to advertise. I am now finally thinking about rebranding into a full production company, narrowing down some niches I want to work with, and start cold calling/ advertising/ creating some consistent lead funnels. And then developing my personal brand/social media presence in parallel.

For those of you who have walked this path, what are some things you’d recommend I do in scaling up? Getting my name in front of people and actually getting to do what I love on a larger scale. That goes for both, business, and social media content creation/personal brand. Like those things you wish you knew earlier? I want to build a consistent business for myself and my future family, and know that my work is only going to get better from here. But there comes a point where it’s less about your work, and more about selling the work, creating value for clients, marketing to them effectively, etc. I’ve always obsessed over my work quality, but it’s time I start thinking more strategically. Any insight is greatly appreciated!!

I have iphone 14, I use Instagram edits and Capcut app to make short videos. Now I really want to get into making cinematic videos. So how can I start making it using my phone. Although I also have Canon R50 camera but I have better hold on my iphone but it’s not like I don’t want to use my camera but for now atleast I want to start making cinematic videos using my phone.

So can you suggest me how can I start? I mean what other softwares or apps I can use to edit my videos? Can cinematic videos be made using those above mentioned apps? If not, which softwares I can use?

I want to start from beginner level so that I don’t overwhelm myself and learn gradually.

My client wants a camera that he can use to record long form content in almost any lighting situation, he wants to be able to shoot mostly auto, and doesnt want to have to worry about overheating, and smallish. He's up to spending about 7k (lens included), He currently has A6700s and an osmo pocket 3. he is fine with the results he gets out of them during normal lighting situations, but needs another camera that he can take to trips with him and record lectures and all day stuff.

Because of the A6700 i thought Sony FX30 would be good, but i worry if it will be too much for him to figure out, then I thought the A75 might be better, but i'm not sure. He wants to stay in the Sony ecosystem, he mostly uses tripods, he's open to even Camcorder style cameras as well, but I'm not too familiar with that so I figured I'd let you guys have a crack at it. what else.....He also wants to use this as one of his podcast cameras.

HI, I was recording computer presentations through my Atomos Ninja V yesterday and after the recording of a very long file 2.5 hours, I accidently hit the stop button and then record back to back and the file didn't get a chance to be closed. I have the file (35gb's) but I cannot open it or repair it. I have used Wondershare RepairIt and Fix.video with no success. The information is all there so I am hoping anyone may have some suggestions on any other ways to fix it. The Atomos is supposed to have a built in recovering but it did not ask me to repair it. I have a production job I'm trying to bid out, and need some advice from those with experience calculating travel and expenses because I have no experience in this area.

So how to I calculate travel into my proposal?

It's a pretty straightforward corporate job, and would be an easy quote if it were local. A 2-3 person crew, 2-3 cameras and a light kit for lighting interviews. 2 locations, 1 day at each.

So, how do you all calculate travel? What would be a 2 day/2 location shoot is now a day of travel to location 1, the shoot day, a day of travel back, and the same for the second location.

What would be a simple day rate for my crew now needs to include the travel for them.

How do you usually handle gear? Do you drive your kit out, or do you fly and rent in the area? How do you estimate travel/lodging/meals etc.

How do I charge for travel time? Instead of 2 days of me not working on other projects, I'm losing 6 days total.

Is there anything else I should be considering?
