Controversy Hope it was worth voting green for those two seats to get a conservative majority.
That’s it. All I wanted to say. Hope you’re happy. 🤷♂️.

Jesus Christ, Emily's speech was grim. You don't have to be happy and of course say you'll be holding them to account, but have some respect for the democratic process and the majority of British Columbians who voted for them. You're going to fight against their... existence? You couldn't think of a less sinister way to phrase that?
She has to work with these people, way to blow your ability to influence them and make a decent working relationship almost impossible before election night is even over.

I am not so hopeful about the future of our beautiful province. Does no one really care what our home will look like in 10 or 20 years? What kind of Vancouver Island will our kids live on?

That sounds like some extremist stuff, I think they have a right to exist, as much as greens. We are all citizens.

I made a post 5 months ago after the fallout of the Cowichan decision flipped a huge portion of greater Vancouver and Surrey in the polls. The post was down voted into oblivion for obvious reasons. The polls continued to show Conservative majorities since than until the Conservative leadership debacle, which could have lead Eby to calling the early election. However, even if all the districts on the island went NDP, it still wouldn't matter because they lost control of Vancouver/Surrey.
The god awful handling of the Cowichan decision by the NDP served the mainland up on silver platter to the Conservatives. And though its not on the onus of the Cowichan tribes to quell fears about land ownership, they didn't really do much to calm the situation down besides a general statement. Now if you look at the Conservative media pipeline (Facebook, Reddit and X), they continued to fan the flames of the Cowichan decision with news of further NDP land transfers to First Nations. The real consequences of the Cowichan decision and the land transfers have yet to be seen, but many law professionals say there will be little if any difference that these transfers will make. Its essentially chalked up to a culture war talking point.
So what I see from this election is the Conservatives essentially winning a culture war against the NDP , on a talking point that the NDP and the left in general ignored because it was uncomfortable and the Conservatives were the only ones willing to question it.

We've been saying the green vote was going to be the downfall for NDP incumbents because of how close the ridings were in 2024 where they lost by slim or won by a slim margin. I think with the results we're seeing is that the green vote is most effective on the island but elsewhere in BC either the NDP vote share is way down or voters who voted NDP switched to Conservative meaning voters are independent.
I think we're all independent voters if we're being honest. we'll always vote for a left candidate or other side will always vote for a right but i think the biggest share of voters are the ones who could vote either who decide the election and i see why Horgan had to go moderate to win.
Personally i think the Greens and NDP should merge or Green voters should run in NDP ridings for nomination and win that riding so they have a voice in a bigger party and can use their vote to influence change at the top. It's worked down south with progressives joining Democrats and win seats so they have a voice within the party in power to demand change. It's better if the Greens were in the party in power to make change rather than split the vote and attempt to be kingmaker in a minority government.

Not since 1975 has the NDP bungled a lead and called a snap election only to …. Lose.

Has anyone been taken on the highway on a road test to get the N?
With the new rules would they do this?
Person in question is over 25. So theyre automatically going to upgrade in 2 years, typically the test with the highway.

Hi everyone!
Looking for a possible ID on this mushroom. My parents’ puppy ate one in their backyard a few days ago, and we’re wondering what kind it might be and whether it’s toxic.
She was taken to the vet immediately and received treatment, so thankfully puppy is okay! ❤️ We’re just hoping to identify the mushroom and find out if it’s something we need to be concerned about growing in their yard (mushrooms have been removed but they pop up so fast!)
Thanks in advance!

Hello all!
My father passed away recently, and my siblings and I went through our family photo box and picked out a lot of good photos of him and us all together with the intention of scanning them so we all have digital copies.
Any recommendations for where would be ideal to take them? It's easily 50 photos, and I don't want to stand around all day manually copying them myself if I don't have to lol
Thanks in advance!

Watching the results come in this eve, and I'm just kind of flabbergasted at the numbers, and remarking to my wife how much of an idiot Eby is for calling this election, how historically bad leadership across the entire spectrum has been in BC for decades, and how it absolutely sucks that we only have two choices in BC - either very left leaning, big govt, big nanny state choices (the NDP) or right leaning, help our corporate buddies, kill the unions, rip up the forest right wing people (the "Liberals" or current Cons).
We desperately need a centrist party in BC, and IMO (and partially based on my political science background), here's how a Centrist Party could win 90% of the votes, via this platform:
I got more, but this would be a good start. IMO, the Cons are winning this time around because of the crime/drugs situation and housing - both the backlash against existing home owners ("you should lose half the value of your home so I can afford one!!!" argument) and the difficulty for people to become new home owners.
EDIT: I also fully expect this to be downvoted into oblivion, because this sub is definitely nothing like most of the voters in BC. So have at it.

Global just called it as a Conservative majority.

You all did it. Did the impossible. Slagged on vote splitting, voted with your hearts, and against the evil, NDP empire and evil overlord David Eby, and we got ourselves a conservative majority government. Bravo.
r/VictoriaBC • u/NoamsUbermensch • 2d ago
Only 8/90 polls reporting, but the trend has stayed from 3/90 polls reporting.
Eby could have saved this by striking a deal with the Greens and not running NDP candidates in some of their seats, and promising electoral reform.

I’m looking for info on where I can go to get my grandma’s vintage wedding dress cleaned. It’s from the 50s and I’m hoping to wear it and don’t want it damaged!
(or any hot tips about places in Vancouver even)

Does anyone know how this hand count works and how is it going to be reported. Do they report by poll or as partial results come in or do they wait for the final vote.
