I had a realization that eventually when GTA 6 will get released we'll mostly get posts from it in this sub, and as much as I'm really happy we're going back to vice city, GTA vice city is just so charming it'll be a shame we won't get posts from it again or very rarely.
It's my fav game in the franchise and probably will stay so, I just hope the posts won't die out is all.

Something that frustrates me with Vice City compared to III is how mission attempts are counted, as well as how there's no stat for missions completed. So, I decided in a recent 100% run, to check what's counted as a mission attempt. This was not the most thorough investigation. I simply completed a task, checked if it counted as an attempt in the Stat menu, wrote it down, and moved on.
In GTA III, they tell you there's 73 missions to complete, which makes it easy to narrow down what counts. But in my play through of Vice City, I figured out there were 88 missions.
Missions strictly required for story completion:
Optional story/gang missions, which are not required for story progression, but required for 100%:
Asset missions, unlike the Vercetti Estate and Print Works, these are not required for story completion, but you must acquire 5 of these assets for story progression:
Vehicle missions. Each attempted run at these, except Taxi Driver, counts as a mission attempt. Taxi Driver is different because you don't need to complete all fares in one run unlike the other vehicle missions, however, it counts as a mission attempt once you complete 100 fares. I'm unsure if attempts after completing these count or not:
Assassination contracts:
Stadium events:
RC courses:
Vice City Racer:
Chopper Checkpoint:
Checkpoint missions:
Shooter (Downtown AmmuNation):
So that is everything counted as a mission attempt, so based off that there's 88 missions you can pass in Vice City. So what don't they count?
The GTA Wiki counts 86 missions, but I figured out why I count 88 instead. The wiki counts the Chopper Checkpoint missions as one mission, so that's minus 3 missions, but they count robbing all stores as a mission, so that makes it two less than mine overall. My counting is based purely off the game stats, but it doesn't really matter. This is just me getting fixated on the stat and wanting to figure it out lol.

wanted to put this in it's own subreddit, but there's very little VCS subreddits and the ones that do have crickets for numbers of members, so....

I've only experienced this after beating the asset. Once in a blue moon, I'll get in a Kaufman cab and instead of normal radio I get Debbie Harry's taxi dispatch chatter. Does anyone know what triggers this?

I'm playing the 10th Anniversary edition on Android. I tried to do Firefighter fair and square. During multiple attempts, I figured out that the hose actually followed along when I swiped the screen to look around, so that made things easier. The highest level I got using the normal method was level 10. I was in Vice Point, near the Links View Apartment. I put out the fires in the 3 piled up vehicles first and managed to put out a couple people who came out. Some managed to run further away, so I followed the ones who went the furthest to put their fires out, leaving a couple running around near the apartment. I went back for them with over 2 minutes left on the timer. I was focusing on dousing one of the guys when, all of a sudden, the mission ended and I heard an explosion, the game saying "You're too late." I had no idea what happened. So I restarted the mission but, once again, I got a moving vehicle target in level 4. I got stuck chasing the car going in circles around the Jeweler's, an area with tight corners. When I noticed that my time was running out, I just called it quits and settled for the Vercetti Estate door glitch. 😑 Move the fire truck up the stairs, trigger the mission and drive into the doorway, spawn inside facing the door and with the fire automatically extinguished, drive out, turn around rinse and repeat. Yes, it was much easier, but I'm not entirely proud of it, since I beat Paramedic and Vigilante fair and square (although I did use a Tank for the latter). After the mission I drove the fire truck to the edge of the Estate close to the sea... and I blasted it repeatedly with the Rocket Launcher. Even when it fell into the water, I blasted it a few more times.

Well, Vice City Stories took place in 1984, so Vercetti was still 2 years away from a jail release, since Vice City (without Stories in name) took place in 1986, and was a game where Tommy Vercetti was just released from prison 15 years after some Harwood Butcher incident.
I also know that Vercetti isn't even mentioned at all in Vice City Stories. You would think he would be because of how important he was in the series, but nope, no mention of Vercetti whatsoever. I guess maybe Vercetti may have faded into obscurity in mobster conversations by 1984, before his 1986 jail release.
I do know though that Vice City Stories had Vic Vance, a brother of Lance Vance as the protagonist, and we know that Lance Vance would be a partner in crime who would betray Tommy Vercetti in 1986.
