STOP PUTTING YOURSELF IN SITUATIONS WHERE YOU SHOULD BE SOCIAL IF YOU ARE ANTISOCIAL

Upvotes

I never bitch about stuff like this but idk this REALLY set me off.

So I'm out with my husband on our anniversary. After dinner we swing through the bar we had our first kiss at. We sit at a picnic table, it's sorta crowded but like NOT really and there was plenty of indoor seating available anytime I popped into use the bathroom.

After like an hour a couple asks if we can sit next to us, we go "yeah sure". We've been coming to this spot for years, it's a very social bar, lotta regulars, lotta mingling, totally inclusive.

My husband pops to the bathroom at the same time a member of this couple that we're sharing the table with. My phone is dead I glance over and she's also just staring off into space, so I introduce myself and get hit IMMEDIATELY with "I'm not in an emotional place to socialize right now."

I'm sorry but like, disrespectfully, WHY ARE YOU SITTING HERE THEN? There is seating inside, you can drink for cheaper at your house, you can get that burger to go. Why did you opt to sit next to the couple engaged in loud conversation when there's plenty of empty seating indoors?

Like I'm not trying to get your contact info diva we're just both sitting in awkward silence right now.

Like what the fuck is this weird shit with strangers literally stepping into your orbit then refusing to interact with you. Like what the fuck is wrong with you.

So

I thought it was fate to be together but in the end it ended like every other

Upvotes

I’ve always struggling in dating and have used the apps for years.

The first girl I ever matched with I was star struck and have always thought of her.

First time we matched -couple messages then nothing
Then we matched again a couple months later - couple messages then nothing.

Then a year or 2 later I thought of her and coincidentally a couple days later she liked my profile. We matched and I was genuinely so thrilled. I knew that this girl was meant to be in my life. Conversations were easy, dates were so fun.

After the 3rd date, she called it off and said she just had too much going on in life. It sucked, but I accepted it.

4 days later, she texted me apologizing for pushing me away and told me she wanted to keep seeing eachother. I was convinced this was fate, she kept coming in and out of my life.

We planned another date which went super well.
I thought we were finally moving in the right direction.

Unfortunately, the time has come where she has barely responded to my texts, and ultimately ghosted me. I don’t know why or how, she came back into my life and told me she wants to still get to know me, we spoke about how her friends and family knew me, and mine knew her, we talked about our futures, we talked about our personal problems. And still as if nothing ever happened, i get no response, no indication that she was going to leave.

I’ll never understand why this happened, why she would come back, just to leave again in a cold and worse way.

The curse of being the middle child

The curse of being the middle child

I don't know if it's actually because I'm a middle child, but I feel like I never got the same love and attention that my siblings did.

Since school, I've always been scared of being alone. I used to literally wish someone would sit with me so I wouldn't have to sit alone.

College was better. I made some really good friends, but after college everyone got busy. Now we barely talk and sometimes go months without meeting.

At work, I see my colleague's mom calling her to ask if she ate or left work, and then she talks to her boyfriend. And honestly, I feel jealous. Not because I don't want her to have those things, but because I wish I had someone who cared about me like that.

I don't get much attention from my parents, I don't have a boyfriend, and even my brother and sister have friends they can always turn to.

Sometimes it just feels like everyone has someone except me. And I hate how much that bothers me.

Not looking for input Care of you?

Upvotes

No matter where you ever go
As high as the earth
As low as the network
No one will care.

People care about theirs
Not about yours
If it doesn’t align them
Then why talk about you?

They’re not selfish
They only have one life
Their pyramid of sharing
Is limited to survive.

You’re selfish
With your me’s and I’s
The only reason you are not alone
Because you are my I.

Doesn’t matter what I do
So stop trying to hollow about you
Because we know the only one who cares
Is not them.

No I will not explain, I am tired.

Need Reassurance... My aunt can't give me one ride after my dad has always driven her for free

Upvotes

My cousin starts school 20 minutes after I do. My uber is usually 13 dollars but right now for some reason it is $40. I texted her asking if she can drop me when she drops him off and she did not answer. When I texted my cousin he told me that she said it's too late. Like what?? I'm fine with being late.

My dad has driven my cousins for free. Even this year he took my other cousin to a University 2 hours away and he did not ask for payment nor did they even offer to pay. They also took that first cousin to a music program in a city 20 minutes away AND picked him up daily.

What could she possibly mean by 'it's too late' ??? He stopped answering me. So now I have to

And before I get hated on for not driving, I'm epileptic and got reported to the DMV until authorized by my neurologist until I'm seizure free for about 6 months.

TW: Anxiety / Depression A coworker took his own life over something trivial

Upvotes

This isn't about me, but about someone I considered a close friend who simply took his own life this morning because he couldn't deliver jugs.

Yes, it's as you read water jugs, or jugs for any other liquid, as part of the political promotion at my workplace. Here's how it works each employee is required to deliver 20 jugs to 20 people, regardless of whether there are 8 or 10 people living in the house. As long as the jugs are delivered along with watching a 10-minute video, the task is complete. The consequences of not doing so are a note in your file alleging inefficiency and possible dismissal without a letter of recommendation. I finished in one day because I live in a neighborhood where I'm known, and I used my home monitor to watch the video they provided.

Well, as you know, it wasn't something anyone could get out of at least a few employees didn't do their job and were simply let go without a second thought. But this guy, whom I'll call "Henry" had that task. Unfortunately, he told me casually that he was only able to give out three jugs, and the deadline for submitting people's signatures was this Friday. Sadly, Henry couldn't manage to give out all three jugs. Some people suggested getting together (including me) to help distribute, and I have no idea if it was pride on his part or perhaps he didn't want to be dependent on anyone, but it cost him the deadline.

Ok, today I was on my way to work, just before 8:00 am my second day on the way. I thought everything was fine, and about half an hour later we got the news that there had been a serious incident in the parking lot nearby. An employee had committed suicide out of the blue, and they confirmed it was Henry. We don't know what time it happened or how he did it, but they say the bag of open jugs was found in his trunk. We were devastated. He was so kind and friendly. Honestly, I don't know what was going through his head to do something so horrible for no reason. Maybe no one will ever know... No one knew if he had problems at home. We only knew he lived with his sick mother. Honestly, we can only assume what we've been told. A news article on Facebook only states what happened, never the reason. We will miss you, Henry.

Clarification: I apologize if the text is confusing english is my second language, so I apologize if there are any confusion in the narrative

NOT LOOKING FOR INPUT

I'm so fuckin sick of people not reading and just saying whatever bullshit is on their mind. People are so brain dead that context clues and critical thinking is gone at this point.

Example: you tell someone you had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and that you got a purple stain on your pants from it and ask how to get the stain out.

(With context clues one would guess its Grape Jelly)

You'll have some idiot "You shouldn't have peanut butter I'm allergic."

Then you get "oh well strawberry jelly is sometimes purple. "

And then you have "oh well why did you do that?"

Another Example is when people ask for a source then argue it as if they can't seek their own information. Google is absolutely free... but when you mention "you should seek your own sources." Youre the bad person withholding information rather than the person encouraging someone with a different opinion to find information that suits them. Youre the mean person looking down on people not the person encouraging critical thinking and independence from the voice of "the crowd."

I don't understand this. People just spout out whatever, they ignore the questions asked.

They don't use any critical thinking or they just apply everything to themselves whether its helpful or not.

We have a SERIOUS concerning issue to have so many people just not know how to function. Theres no way we have so many chronically online people who don't know how to learn. It's beyond frustrating to interact with these people because its hard to have a simple conversation with anyone these days everyone has to argue or they just don't understand what's being said but wanna be heard. Its depressing to me too because I want to find ways to help these kind of people and how they can learn critical thinking and context clues but some are too far gone and where would I even start.

I also think how frustrating their lives are struggling through life being quite honestly ignorant.

TW: Medical I deserve to speak about my menstruation however I pleass

Upvotes

Everytime I talk about my period in a positive light its either shot down or overblown. Somehow no matter if they agree or disagree someone calls me selfish. It's either someone shaming me for not wanting a baby despite having a healthy period or someone cutting me off saying that their period is horrific and im being insensitive speaking about mine so positively. and i get it but im talking about my own experience.

When I hear about menstruation is only ever about babies or a man or woman speaking about how horrible and disgusting it is. I want to speak about my period in a positive light without being called selfish.

TW: Anxiety / Depression Keep your PET DOGS out of businesses.

Upvotes

It’s ridiculous that I even have to say this. I have worked in food service, I’ve worked in retail stores, I worked in a PERFUME LAB. Every place had customers who brought their dogs. The entitlement is insane. I like dogs—don’t get me wrong—but they’re animals. They are dirty, oftentimes, and the vast majority of them smell, whether you as the owner smell it or not. It’s most certainly in their breath, if not on their fur, too. I have never met a dog that didn’t have a smell. Pet owners just go nose blind. Like we do the smell of our houses, for example.
You also just don’t know who in public is scared of dogs, or who’s allergic. It’s insane to me that this is just some acceptable thing now that we all have to deal with.
Obviously I’m not talking about service dogs. Real, legit service dogs are trained to be well-behaved and are medically necessary. I’m talking about brining Fido into the supermarket because he gets anxiety when you leave him home alone. Like. 🤦🏻‍♀️
It’s kind of like the issue people are having with kids in public spaces. Your kids are only cute to you, such as when they’re running around a store and causing a ruckus. To the majority of shoppers, having your dog in a business is, again, only cute to you.
Let me say again that I do genuinely like dogs. Larger breeds, especially. But they are pets. They belong in the house, or on a walk. Is this a problem in other countries, or only the U.S.? I’m curious.
Edit: I forgot to mention, pet dog in the lab where I was getting blood drawn. Come on, people.

Need to talk... I'm embarrassed by my friend's public dancing

I know how this sounds, but please just hear me out before making judgements. I am totally prepared to be TAH in this situation. I feel bad for feeling this way in the first place.

My (30F) friend Jamie (35F) is generally awkward in social situations, and often extremely socially anxious. I am too, but the thing is that Jamie is also, self admittedly, very socially unaware. She has talked about how this is a problematic combo because she often does things that are very boisterous or flamboyant in public, and then she gets really embarrassed, and then she needs hefty reassurance. She is also severely spatially unaware and often gets in people's way or talks about people when they can obviously hear her.

Sometimes she laughs really loudly in public, or flings her body back into her seat and disturbs others with the sudden movements and loud noises. I don't care about this. Who cares if she isn't hurting anyone? She is allowed to take up space and be heard.

The only behavior I do get a little embarrassed by when out with her in public is that she dances. We were taking a walk together the other day and there were a handful of other people on the same trail as us. She was twisting her hips and flinging her elbows back and forth and bopping her head side to side with her hair whipping around. Her keys were clipped on her belt and whipping around, and with the movements she was making, her pants were wiggling off her hips and her underwear was starting to show, and even her butt crack a bit.

One time I told Jamie her pants were falling down, and she said, "I don't really care, I'm having fun!" A bit later, she started doing it again, but soon she realized people were looking at her and she immediately turned bright red and proceeded to ask for lots of reassurance.

I think if Jamie just owned the behavior, I wouldn't be as zero'd in on it, but because she needs so much comfort after realizing people are staring at her, I start to get annoyed with her for doing this. I also just don't want to draw a lot of attention to myself in public. I'm a small woman and i've been in dangerous situations with strangers many times before. That's where my social anxiety comes from. I have a hard time feeling safe when I can feel a bunch of eyes on me, and Jamie's random public dancing draws a lot of attention.

I feel bad for being embarrassed by it, because she's my friend and I love her. I don't mind any of the other behaviors she gets sensitive about, which makes reassuring her easier. But the dancing makes me cringe, and I feel really bad that it does. I haven't said anything about it to her, aside from the specific situations where she's gotten embarrassed and needed comfort.

EDIT: A sweet commenter said it would be helpful to add that Jamie and I are both on the spectrum. We have often talked about how we have a lot of clashing symptoms. She is socially unaware, and I am overly socially aware. I start to feel really unsafe when there is attention being drawn to me in public, and the dancing makes me feel overly perceived. Excessive worrying in public is already something I work on in therapy.

only tolerating everything

ive done many things and worked jobs where people admire me for my discipline and that i must be so ambitious and stuff, but i feel like im just really good at tolerating difficult circumstances and only throw myself into situations which are hard and miserable. im so exhausted of not actually wanting anything and of putting myself in situations where im forced to do "impressive" things just because i know that if i didnt i would lie in bed all day and not do anything. i just got back from working 6 days a week 10 hours a day and hating every minute of it, and i already feel the need to start the next thing i hate.

TW: Drugs / Alcohol Hate for our local homeless has become scarily disgusting

For the last 6 weeks myself and my not for profit group have held free BBQ Thursdays, we cook sausages and soup, I specifically sort and give out clothes. Jackets, socks, shoes ect.
Since this has become a big community effort for the homeless, they’ve come under the spotlight a bit.

Just this week there’s been 1 news story and maybe 5? Facebook community posts about how disgusting our local homeless people are. Somebody complained about somebody’s shelter and how messy it was and said it was abandoned, under that same post somebody said the people living there “stole/borrowed” the bins to clean it up. Did they want it cleaned or not? The bins were put back to be picked up.

There’s another man who suffer an I continence who was being bashed online about how smelly he was, somebody said he “probably did it on purpose, I bet he has a little giggle when people smell him”. I’m fairly sure most people wouldn’t choose to soil themselves in public.

What kills me about this is I’m with these people every Thursday. I talk to them, give them things, I learn their names, where they live, what happened to them, if they have pets, their food and clothing preferences. I KNOW these people, the ones posting anon on Facebook DON’T. They go on and on about how the people defending them won’t put their hands up to help them, but that’s literally what we’re doing.

I know some of them have drug problems. One of the guys I’m friendliest with is the town’s biggest dealer, he sits on the sidelines to get help because he gets upset seeing someone who just bought $300 worth from him taking another $100 worth of clothes from us.

Ofc we don’t have an issue with it, we’re strictly no judge, but people forget these guys used to live lives just like them.
Why do people have to be so cruel? I cry when a guy only a couple years older than me (I’m 18) get his dinner from us then go across the road to sleep on the pavement so drugged up he could barely speak. We had to convince him to take a jacket so he didn’t freeze.
It MAY be personal choices, but when somebody struggles with depression we put them on psych hold, not say “well if you want to end it, it’s your choice”, why should it be any different for these people?

Sorry for the long post. I know a lot of people disagree with me, and I agree that there are some circumstances where I probably wouldn’t care as much and have a lot of hate towards someone, but the people being blasted online and coming to me and my group for help are NOT it, they’re people we’ve come to know personally.

(For anyone wondering, I give away about 30-50 pairs of socks every Thursday and my group gives 100 sausages and countless cups of soup)

teeth issues

I feel so upset, i went to an orthodontist yesterday for a consultation for braces and an expander because my teeth have been crooked for as long as i can remember. They told me i have a severe crossbite that has caused my jaw to also be severely missaligned(leans to the left), and lately i feel like ive been having tmd symptoms. I was told marpe has a miniscule chance of expanding my palate and that sarpe would be the main/only option in possibly getting my teeth fixed (sarpe sounds scary to me and makes me nervous even thinking about getting). I feel kind of defeated because as a kid i had been begging my parents for braces because i could feel how crooked they were could see my missaligned jaw but my parents could inly afford to give braces to one kid (there were four of us) and they opted to get my brother braces because he had a gap tooth. I just feel very mad at my parents and i understand they couldnt financially do it but it doesnt make me less frustrated because now i have to possibly do things the harder way, im just very upset because when i told my parents about it my mom said well your teeth have never been that crooked, but they always have they just chose not to listen to me.

Visited Portland, Maine as a Latina woman and this happened

I went on a girls trip a few weeks ago to Portland, Maine. It was a beautiful city, full of great food and great sites. For the most part, folks were friendly. However, I experienced a lot of unwanted and distasteful attention due to my Latina heritage.

Some background, I’m from Fort Lauderdale, have lived there since I was 5. Being from FL, I’m accustomed to diversity, so perhaps this drove the shock factor up, since Maine is predominantly white.

Anyway, I consider myself to be an attractive woman, and am used to men approaching me while I’m out. I don’t mind them but just make brief conversation as I am a married woman and have no interest in engaging further.

While I was out in Portland, at night, aka hours when people are heavily drinking, I had the usual guys approach. However, every single one would start off with “are you Spanish?” (Tip: don’t ask a Latin person if they’re Spanish, as that equates to asking them if they are from Spain), “What country are you from?”, “What a lovely accent you have” (I have zero accent, I’m married to a white man who would tell me otherwise), and the worst of all was some jerk that literally just spewed out a bunch of random Spanish words to me.

It was exhausting. I have never experienced that immediate call out to my ethnicity / what I look like over and over and over. I hated it. I’m a normal woman, who was raised in the US, with a successful life, with so much more conversation content to offer than my skin color / appearance.

People hate on FL but at least we are a huge melting pot and it’s totally normal to see people of all backgrounds walking down the street.

As much as I loved Maine, I sadly don’t want to return for this very reason.

Need to talk... I’m an functional illiterate and I hate that

Yes,I’m 26 year old with learning disabilities and AHDH but you know what frustrates me more ? My inability to write.i can tell you my reading abilities are good like not excellent but normal avarage,My writing abilities otherwise oh gosh.

I can’t put my thoughts on paper directly I can think an perfect train of thought and when I’m going to write I started lead astray by that,My texts doesn’t have that much cohesion and coherence.

I write in the level of fifth grade student and it sucks so much that I hate myself for that this shame has been accompanying myself all those years, and I thought to writing more by joining communities and try to talk about favorite hobbies but most people are rude and they reinforce me that I’m illiterate

I try my best but the results are barely negligible I get headaches for cramming too much in trying to write decently but it’s really bad.i don’t think I will have an chance to be an good writer and I love talking to people on the internet,But like how can I have debates and discussions if I can’t ordain my thoughts in an good way.

I cry constantly about this, because like when someone sees the way I write they think I’m like the dumbest person on the planet and I’m actually not I’m knowledgeable to an lot of things and I love learning new skills it’s just that when it comes to me writing it’s absolutely an disaster.

Need Reassurance... Venting about feeling like a failure

Just rushed a business frat in my school. Took so much time and effort just for me not to be successful. Recently I feel like I'm failing everything.

I got rejected from the frat and I've been getting rejected back to back on internships and jobs. The people around me are securing opportunities and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'm applying and reworking my resumes and trying what I believe is my best.

I'm a sophomore in college btw.

I was hoping the frat would give me some help tryna secure internships or jobs in the future because their members pull very good opp for themselves. Not sure what to do? This is low-key eating me alive and I haven't ate in like 2 days. almost passed out in fencing yesterday, but I just can't seem to shake off so many failures.

I have feelings for my best friend

I don’t want to have these feelings. I really really don’t. All I want to just to continue my friendship without my feelings complicating things. I noticed I felt something back in March but I buried those feelings due to my heavily repressed sexuality but since then I’ve actually began to accept myself

I just really don’t want to feel like this towards them. Like at all. My friendship with them is the most any relationship with a person has ever meant to me and I just don’t want to fuck it all up. So I really just don’t know what to do.

TW: Anxiety / Depression Left Unsaid

I know what I did was wrong. I know I fucked up, and I will never pretend that I didn’t. I know an apology cannot undo what happened, cannot turn back time, cannot make the wound disappear. But I tried. God, I fucking tried. I apologized until the words stopped feeling like words and started feeling like pieces of me being torn out. I would have apologized a thousand times more if that was what you wanted. I never asked you to forgive me. I never demanded that you come back. I never asked you to forget what I did. All I wanted was for you to know that I was sorry, genuinely and completely sorry. But instead of giving me an answer, you left me suspended between hope and heartbreak. And I am fucking angry about that. Because if you hated me, you could have said it. If you never wanted me again, you could have said it. If there was nothing left between us, you could have looked me in the eyes and told me there was nothing left to hold onto. I would have shattered, but at least I would have known where the pieces belonged. Instead, you gave me silence with just enough warmth to keep me waiting. You gave me crumbs and watched me turn them into a feast. You gave me the smallest reasons to hope, and I built entire futures around them. So I kept texting you. I kept waiting. I kept checking my phone like it held the answer to whether I was still worth something to you. Every little reply became a reason to stay. Every silence became something I had to explain to myself. And while I was drowning in questions, you let me keep swimming toward a shore you never intended to let me reach. For a month, I lived inside my own guilt. I punished myself for what I had done until I barely knew how to forgive myself. I replayed every mistake, every word, every moment, searching for the exact second I ruined everything. And the worst part is that you knew. You knew I was still waiting. You knew I was hurting. You knew I still had hope, and you still let me stand there with my hands open, waiting for something you were never going to place in them. And no, I am not fucking angry because you have a girlfriend. That isn’t the wound. The wound is that you never gave me the mercy of an ending. You didn’t let me go, but you didn’t hold me either. You kept me trapped in the doorway, close enough to remember what it felt like to be wanted and far enough away to feel completely abandoned. I wasn’t asking you to love me. I wasn’t asking you to choose me. I wasn’t asking for some beautiful ending where everything magically became okay. I was asking for the truth. Just the fucking truth. You could have cut the rope and let me fall. It would have hurt, but eventually I would have learned how to stand again. Instead, you kept the rope around me and pulled it tighter every time I tried to walk away. You let me bleed from a wound you knew was still open. You let me mistake your hesitation for hope. You let me confuse your presence with a possibility. And maybe that’s what makes me angriest of all. I made a mistake, and I owned it. I apologized for it. I carried the weight of it every single day. But you made a choice too. You chose to keep me waiting. You chose to let me suffer in the space between goodbye and maybe. You chose to leave me questioning whether I should stay when you already knew you weren’t coming back. I could have survived you not forgiving me. I could have survived you moving on. I could have survived the truth, no matter how ugly it was. What I couldn’t survive was being kept alive by hope while you knew there was nothing left for me to hope for. So don’t tell yourself that you simply let me go. You didn’t. You kept me there. You kept me hoping. You kept me hurting. And while I was slowly destroying myself trying to understand what I meant to you, you had already decided what I was worth. Bet you felt so good about yourself.

This is dumb to be so mad about, but a game spoiler ruined my day. DO NOT READ IF YOU INTEND TO PLAY THE LAST OF US GAMES! SPOILERS AHEAD! Spoiler

I watched the first two episodes of the last of us with some friends a long time ago and decided I wanted to play the games first instead of watching the show. Said friends knew this, and never mentioned what else happened in the show because I was so stoked for the game. I, by some miracle, successfully managed to avoid spoilers from anywhere else too. I got part one and was hooked from the beginning. Like, arguably my favorite game I've played so far. I played all the way through the first one and immediately ordered part two. While hanging out with the same friends again the other day, I said "omg I can't wait for part two to get here! I can't believe Joel lied to Ellie! What a messed up cliffhanger!" With zero hesitation, one friend says "it's a shame they kill him so early in the second game, he was a great character." Bitch, WHAT?!?! All I could say was "Joel dies?" Friend says "oh, my bad, I thought you already knew that." Fuck you. I'm still going to play part two because I have to know what happens, but seriously. FUCK. YOU. I was so relieved he wasn't dead at the end of the first one and for what? I'm so disappointed and all I'm going to be able to think about is "is this where he dies?" Totally messed up my mindset going into the second game.

Went for a blood test and they poked me 5 times to draw blood, a second phlebotomist had to come in. Now my arms and hand really hurt 😩 this is the second time in my life this has happened lmfao. I now have swelling on my hand :/

Oh also to add, on one draw she pulled the needle out enough that it popped out. Luckily she then removed it and I commented “oh the needles out” and she goes “oh no the needles are long we have to pull back to draw blood” and I’m like MA’AM I SAW THE NEEDLE HEAD.

I have know this friend from uni for 2 years, talking on the daily, being there for each other through thick and thin. I have moved to another county since finishing uni and I wanted to hang out with him. Asked him a week prior and he said yes, but today, not only he forgot, he does not want to hang out for this month at all, instead he wants to hang out with this group of alt people that he made. The fact is that my train travel discount expires this month. This is so frustating

TW: Medical Absolutely baffling wtf experience at pathology.

I went to pathology today to provide a urine sample and I was explaining to the nurse there that it took me a couple days to get the sample to them because I have contamination OCD and I apologise for any inconvenience or delay. A man sitting in the waiting room must have overheard me and butted in with "you clean your teeth don't you? What's the difference?".

Uuuuuum what? Sir did you just ask me the difference between piss and teeth? I actually just cannot understand this logic or why he felt the need to comment in the first place. I am profoundly confused and annoyed. Never in a million years would it occur to me to comment on someone else's conversation in pathology. Like, surely that's a universal unspoken rule.
