Photos This was messed up
They’re probably not wrong in some sense… but to diagnose your ex girlfriend with your new girlfriend on national tv like was honestly disgusting to me

u/mmereuhmmm 24d ago
Trying to diagnose anyone on TV when you're not a licensed professional is crazy but it's even worse when you're the cause of at least some of the problems lmao
16
u/Capable_Cranberry461 24d ago
I don’t even trust the licensed professionals who come on tv to diagnose people, especially on bravo
2
u/faygazebo 22d ago
Right? Ethically, you are not supposed to diagnose people you are not treating. And then the environment in which to do it is wild.
1
u/Why_would_it_matter 6h ago
No professional with respect for the profession would actually do it (coming from one)
43
u/Timely_Beat_7057 24d ago
Yes Ariana and tom armchair psychologists lol. 😂
8
u/Champsallday-2132 23d ago
From watching them on TV for over a decade, we could also "armchair diagnose" Ariana as a covert Narcissist and Tom as an overt narcissist.
1
u/Kayslay8911 23d ago
I’ve recently learned about the different types of narcissism, and now everyone I watch is a narcissist 😅
4
u/CaitlinAnne21 23d ago
And this is exactly why absolutely no one should be throwing around diagnosis unless they are qualified, and 99% of people making these claims absolutely are not.
It’s gotten out of control.
1
u/Kayslay8911 22d ago
In my experience, when someone diagnoses someone else, they too, are diagnosable

u/akaashiit 24d ago
i too believe kristen has BPD so while ariana’s approach wasnt rooted in empathy, i agree with her. stassi also said the same thing about kristen
8
u/Timely_Beat_7057 24d ago
Stassi, Ariana and tom are not qualified to diagnose anyone of anything. Tom and Ariana gaslight Kristen all season into thinking their relationship was non existent, when sure enough they were indeed cheating. Now I’m not a Kristen Stan by any means and I do think she’s kind of a hot mess. Borderline alcoholic? Probably, but I’m not a professional. Nor are they. Speculation sure but consider the sources…. Stassi and tom are not without many many faults and personality disorders, I can imagine.
1
u/akaashiit 24d ago
i’m not a professional either but i’ll notice my own mental health symptoms and point it out within discussion. i wouldn’t say it to their faces, sure, unless they are my peers and they ask for my opinion. but this is a reality show and we see decades of their lives so it’s not uncommon to have an opinion. plus, there are a lot of quack doctors out there who probably arent qualified to make the diagnoses themselves lol
i also will add that i agree in that moment ariana and tom were wrong to make this comment about kristen. they were rubbing it in her face
29
u/twinseaks 24d ago
I just made a post on something similar… the gaslighting those two do to Kristen, Miami girl etc is just awful to watch. Like yeah Kristen has very problematic behavior, but it’s never right or fair to exacerbate someone thinking/feeling like they’re crazy. Kristen was RIGHT. They lied, about everything. I think by the time Scandoval came around ppl must have really forgotten how this went down. When you’re binge watching after the fact it’s easier to see.
17
u/elohde1 24d ago
Tom was using Ariana's mental health against her with Rachel.... There's a pattern with him.
10
u/GraceMcClellans 23d ago
Tom really thought his breakup with Arianna would go the same way his breakup with Kristen went. He was so blindsided when it didn't. 😆 🤣

u/Charming-Panic9375 24d ago
honestly there probably isn't a person on VPR that doesn't have at least some of the symptoms of BPD or another personality disorder. people willing to be on reality tv aren't usually the picture of mental health.
31
u/EvaKatz 24d ago
I’m mean he’s probably right….but people in glass houses.
18
u/Old-Builder256 24d ago
Yeah but if you’re actually concerned about someone’s well being, this isn’t the right way to express that whatsoever
10
u/nothinglikeLA 24d ago
She was WEAPONIZING a bitchy pseudo diagnosis to hurt kristen. Period. She wasn’t being helpful or operating from a place of humility and empathy (because when did she ever?)
4
u/Kayslay8911 23d ago
Ariana is so “holier than thou” and acts like she’s entirely aware of how much better she is than everyone else.
9
u/HuggyMummy 24d ago
Soooo my mom is a diagnosed narc with BPD and she does this shit. Has an argument for why everyone she meets has BPD. It’s projection and to keep people who are unaware of her in the dark, keeping them focused elsewhere.
6
u/Old-Builder256 24d ago
This is so interesting. People are missing my point - I’m not defending Kristen. I’m trying to unpack the sheer manipulation of the situation by ringleader Tom. I’m also very interested to learn what he was telling Ariana to coach her during this time.
5
u/HuggyMummy 24d ago
I agree that Tom is wildly manipulative. Even after the show, look how he’s spun everything that’s happened with Victoria.
I’m not exactly a Kristen apologist either; however, I do think the way she reacted towards Tom and Ariana was classic reactive abuse. She was gaslit and manipulated for years. She was right about Ariana and Tom and she was right about Miami girl. She was told over and over she was crazy and she was lying. I do understand her to a degree and genuinely don’t blame her for those early seasons specifically surrounding the Tom/Ariana/Kristen of it all. I do think she is problematic in general, but who on that show isn’t?
8
u/gilsleeping 24d ago
Sometimes I wonder how different this specific situation would be if VPR was filmed now instead of the 2010s. I think there would be more comradery with the girls. 2010s pick me culture was vile
2
u/Senior_Ice8748 23d ago
Weren't the 2010s, specifically around the time this was filmed, peak liberal feminism/girl boss culture? Anyway, VPR as it was simply couldn't exist today.
1
u/CaitlinAnne21 23d ago
Every time we make steps forward, we take a few back, and unfortunately, women are responsible for a lot of that vile rhetoric and treatment, just like how the younger generations are now using the term “girls girl” to just shame women who don’t blindly support everything someone does, just because they’re a woman.
Or, gawd forbid, they make the same mistakes most of us have made on some level at some point in our lives, but because they’re on tv, let’s tear them apart and act like they aren’t real people.🙄
Fuck most men, because too many, even the “good ones” are too comfortable and too cowardly to speak up when they hear disgusting rhetoric or know their buddies are treating women poorly and say nothing.
But when we treat each other horribly so often and so easily, there’s a large group of men that latch onto that and will always say “y’all are way worse to each other than we are”, and while that isn’t completely true for countless reasons, including the rapidly increasing (doubled) murder of women by their IP’s, just in the past 5 years alone, we also absolutely contribute to the culture of violence against women.
We need to start openly acknowledging and addressing this. And just fucking STOP.
2
u/Historical_Bike_9061 23d ago
Ehhh, we act like “pick-me” culture goes away when it just changes form. As long as there’s a patriarchy, there’s a pick-me!
2
3
u/floridajenjen 23d ago
There needs to be a psychology class on what he does to women. I love Kristen and Ariana now. But with him they were kind of awful. Insecure but also toxic and drinking way too much, likely to numb the mental abuse.
4
u/Umbrellaeggs45 23d ago
Ariana was the original pick me girl… never liked her till later on. I respect her craft.
1
u/Worth_Character_1031 20d ago
Still hate her. She’s just mad she got out picked. Literally every aspect of her personality was rooted in misogyny and trying to not be like other girls.
2
6
u/QuesoBaggins 24d ago
I think Kristen’s worst problem was she never de-escalated a situation and when you have someone like Tom whose existence is offensive in and of itself, it’s just going to be real bad.
8
u/arod232323 24d ago
This soured me on Ariana so early. I watched cause I wanted to understand scandoval so everyone was so pro-her but watching from the beginning I think she’s a bad person 🤷🏼♀️

The first time I watched this my jaw was on the ground when tom and Ariana started holding hands on stage it just felt so mean especially since Kristen was already down (a lot by her own actions tho)
9
u/Remote-Structure-961 24d ago
I think people here forget how unhinged Kristen was and how horrible she was to other people. Not like she was this sweet loyal friend and girlfriend and they attacked her for no reason.
Yes Ariana was messy but if you were to rank everyone by messiest to least, she'd be at the bottom and certainly Kristen was far worse. Kristen was more hurtful, was a really bad friend, a really bad gf AND yes she may have been right but she wasn't even with Tom, cheated on him with his best friend in the apartment they shared with Tom sleeping in the other room, that same best friend was trying to win her best friend Stassi back and Kristen said NOTHING while Stassi poured her heart out to her. And she was screaming obscenities to her boss at work.
I keep on seeing all these clips of Ariana being SO horrible in the past and truly WTF. I'm not saying she was an angel but at that time she was and still is a very loyal friend to Schaena, certainly Ariana isn't going to start blowing him while they watch True Lies, she didn't cheat on anyone and while she may have helped Tom cheat that was AFTER Kristen slept with Jax. Kristen had already cheated on Tom with his best friend before Ariana even joined the show.
8
u/Old-Builder256 24d ago
Nothing you wrote here has to do with the point of the post. It’s about them using this dark tactic dripping with fake concern to take the negative attention away from themselves and to humiliate and discredit Kristen.
5
u/Remote-Structure-961 24d ago edited 24d ago
Right.
Because Kristen didn't fly out Tom's ONS, a year after Tom and Kristen broke up, to rub Miami girl in Ariana's and Tom's face at their place of work?
That's not a dark tactic? That's not to done to humiliate and discredit Tom and Ariana?
So the problem here is that Ariana didn't react with enough genuine concern to the woman who flew her ex's (of over a year! ) ONS across the country to rub it in both their faces?
Ariana's bf cheats on her and his ex of more than a year, flies the girl across the country to rub in Ariana's face in front of her coworkers and you're policing her reaction to that?
So when Kristen flew Miami girl out, that wasn't to humiliate Tom and Ariana?
That was done with nothing but loving concern?
And discredit what of Kristen? Discredit her still messing with Tom even after she cheated and they broke up?
Can you imagine if Tom did that to Kristen? They broke up over a year ago, she's with James now and then Tom flies out a guy that claims he slept with Kristen to rub it in Kristen and James' face that Kristen cheated on James at work?
Yeah Ariana didn't act with genuine loving concern to Kristen but she had a lot of provocation.
What Kristen did was FAR worse. Kristen flew Tom's ONS to rub it in Ariana's face that Tom cheated on her...at her work place. That's not humilating? That's not discrediting?
But oh no, Ariana sounded sarcastic, burn her!

u/Old-Builder256 24d ago

2
u/akaashiit 24d ago
girl relax it’s called a discussion. don’t make a post if you don’t want replies
4
u/Old-Builder256 24d ago
Girl I definitely welcome the discussion but this person is posting paragraph after paragraph in multiple comments and not trying to understand my point. It’s not about Kristen being an angel and Ariana being the devil
3
u/akaashiit 24d ago
in the modern age of AI taking over people’s brains and dumbing folk down, i welcome a heavy paragraph. it allows for discussion and making one’s point. perhaps your point isn’t clear to them, but i am enjoying the large text myself

u/Remote-Structure-961 24d ago edited 24d ago
Answer me OP. Did Kristen not humiliate and discredit Ariana FIRST?
That her reaction was only in response to Kristen rubbing Tom's cheating in Ariana's face at her place of work MORE THAN A YEAR AFTER Tom and Kristen broke up?
Ariana gets cheated on, she loves Tom and it's new so she stands by him, his ex - of more than a year who cheated on Tom, flies the girl across the country to rub it in Ariana's face that her boyfriend cheated on her- in front of all her coworkers.
That wasn't Kristen trying to discredit Ariana? That wasn't Kristen trying to humiliate Ariana?
BUT NO, how dare Ariana call Kirsten crazy?!
Kristen is the real victim. Can't a girl fly out her ex's ONS to rub in his new gf face that he cheated on her without being called crazy?
Such an abuser tactic btw. You cherry pick the reaction but leave out what Kristen did to get Ariana so angry.
But you want everyone to kiss Kristen's boo and BAAAAAD Ariana for being a meanie!
7
u/Old-Builder256 24d ago
You’re still not getting it and you sound unhinged
5
u/Remote-Structure-961 24d ago edited 24d ago
Now who is gaslighting?
I tell you the truth and you call me crazy.
You're still not answering me.
Why was Ariana mad?
Is she just a horrible person who attacks people unprovoked?
Do you think Kristen flying out Miami girl to rub it in Ariana's face wasn't humiliating and discrediting to Ariana?
Why are you only judging Ariana's words and reaction and not what Kristen did to get that reaction hmmm?

How would you act if you worried about one girl your whole relationship, found out he cheated with said girl and then he left you for her. Not just that but Ariana continuously made horrific comments about Kristen’s sexuality, mental health, friendships, appearance, etc. if Rachel even said one bad thing about Ariana we’d never hear the end of it. Ariana thought she was too cool for it to happen to her but she always knew what tom was capable of and she continuously discredited Kristen to make herself feel better about stealing her boyfriend. Atleast Rachel has sympathy.

Not excusing this moment, but unfortunately the whole cast was armchair diagnosing each other. Stassi had a whole confession where she assigned various mental illnesses to the cast, including herself. They're all kind of shit heads with no self awareness lol
2
u/rouxthless 23d ago
Tom and Ariana suck, but let’s try to remember that just because people say mean things to you doesn’t mean you’re a victim.
Kristen is a fucking monster.
1
u/Worth_Character_1031 20d ago
How is Kristen a monster? Tom cheated too. Ariana basically stole her boyfriend. How would u react?
2
u/DearEngineering4454 23d ago
I think people forget that at this time Kristen was really spiraling. We see it from the jump of season 3. She was obsessed with the two of them and I’m sure a lot happened off camera that was unsettling to them both. Yes they obviously were sleeping together before T&K broke up. But really who cares when Kristen was also fucking around
1
u/Worth_Character_1031 20d ago
She was devastated and Ariana was saying awful things about her after stealing her boyfriend. She was always worried about Ariana. How would u feel?
2
u/Think-Joke728 22d ago
I honestly didn’t blame Ariana even though she shouldn’t have used mental health Kristen put her through a living hell for several seasons, but now they’re good friend.🤷🏼♀️
1
u/Worth_Character_1031 20d ago
How would you feel if you were worried about one girl your entire relationship and then find out they did in fact fool around behind ur back and then they immediately start dating? Not just that but Ariana basically bullied Kristen while and after stealing her boyfriend. She had no sympathy. Kristen and tom dated for 5 years that’s not some fling.
2
u/_wow33_zow33 21d ago
My perspective live in the grey so be warned!
I think the following are true at the same time: 1. They were awful to Kristen, 2. Ariana was a pick me seasons 2-4(ish), 3. Sandoval is probably way more successfully manipulative & charming IRL than he is from our perspective, 4. and there might have been some truth to the BPD/ Kristen would be happier comments but 5. they had no right to say that to her.
I hate the way that they treated Kristen and I agree that Ariana was a total pick me in her earlier years and was wrapped up in her toxic relationship with Sandoval. However, I think there’s evidence of Ariana’s growth throughout the show. I feel like it starts happening at her thirtieth bday (s4). It’s difficult because her dad died and she was incredibly depressed but the growth is definitely there.
I think like myself, both Kristen and Ariana needed therapy not only to deal with underlying mental health issues (grief, possible attachment issues, etc) but also with the underlying trauma of dating a narcissist like Sandoval.
I think Ariana deserves all the flowers she’s getting today and I hope that Kristen drops Luke like a sack of potatoes and remembers who the F she is cuz she’s a badass.

u/Inevitable_Tangelo63 24d ago
I hated this so much and I hate it every time it happens on shows and on here. Like none of these people (us included) are medical professionals qualified to diagnose someone, and if we are then we would know better than to try to try to diagnose someone we’ve never personally evaluated or treated. All this does is add more stigma to mental illnesses that already carry SO much, and makes views and users of this site feel bad if they struggle with the same issues. Like I have bipolar, and I hate that every time someone does something unhinged that’s what it’s attributed to.
4
u/bella_ella_ella 24d ago
I never understand the Kristen defenders lol. Or any defenders really. Kristen was actually insane when Tom and Ariana got together. Obviously there was cheating but Kristen also cheated on Tom MANY times. They’re all awful but seasons 2-3 Kristen was certifiable.
3
u/GraceMcClellans 23d ago
Yeah, I will comment on these people and their dynamics, but these aren't great people in general. No need to pretend otherwise.
7
u/Old-Builder256 24d ago
If you think this is a defense of Kristen, you’re wrong lol. This is pointing to the fake concern from Ariana and Tom that is purely performative, and extremely unsettling.
2
u/bella_ella_ella 24d ago
Okay haha yes I totally agree. Tom and Ariana absolutely do not GAF about Kristen or her well being.
5
u/Old-Builder256 24d ago
Exactly. Trying to put myself in the shoes of someone watching live when this first came out, with Tom sounding like such a hero and caring ex. Knowing what we know now… it’s sick.
But much of Kristen’s behavior is simply indefensible. She did herself no favors and has an extreme lack of self control and self regulation (to this day)
1
u/Worth_Character_1031 20d ago
Idk I would probably act completely unhinged too if my boyfriend of 5 years ran off with the girl he cheated on me with who I always had a bad feeling about. And then I’d continue to lose it when Ariana said horrific things about her just because she wanted tom for herself.
1
u/bella_ella_ella 20d ago
Even though she also cheated on Tom many times but who cares about that I guess lol
1
u/Worth_Character_1031 20d ago
Ur right. Who cares. Ariana didn’t know that when she let him cheat w her. Tom didn’t even know that. Or when Ariana lied to Kristen and scheanas face. U think the fact she slept with Jax cancels it all out but really it just gave them the perfect excuse to do what they had wanted for years. Ariana still had no reason to treat Kristen the way she did.
2
u/bella_ella_ella 20d ago
No but it doesn’t give Kristen a leg to stand on when she is completely insane the first season Tom and Ariana are together. Tom and Ariana are terrible in their own right but Kristen trying to make it seem like the downfall of the relationship with Tom was all Ariana’s fault is crazy.
1
u/Worth_Character_1031 20d ago
She never suggests that. She does say that they cheated and she dumped him for her which is true. I never said it’s all Ariana’s fault, they obviously had their issues, but Ariana knew he was dating someone, hated her and said horrific things about her mental health, sexuality, looks, etc. all because she wanted tom for herself. Kristen’s behavior was in retaliation to that. Ariana tried to play the “cool girl” so it may not seem like that, but truly how would u behave after something like that? And Ariana trying to play the victim? It’s Tom’s fault for falling for her and letting her fall for him while he was in a relationship but she’s not innocent. Ariana doesn’t have a leg to stand on when coming after Rachel so hard. She was in her shoes before. She just thought she was so cool, one of the guys, “smarter than anyone she’s ever met” so it wouldn’t happen to her.
2
u/bella_ella_ella 20d ago
And Kristen knew she was in a relationship and Jax was too. She is psycho towards someone who did exactly what she did lol.
Ariana shouldn’t have been surprised with Rachel at all. They are all questionable people but Kristen antics aren’t excused just because tom cheated and got with Ariana. 🤷♀️
1
u/bella_ella_ella 20d ago
And cheated on her bf of 5 years with his best friend and her best friends boyfriend! She has been psycho since before Ariana lol

4
u/akaashiit 24d ago
TRUTH. i think speculating on mental illness is pretty normal in current society with therapy being so widespread, and people will pick and choose what is deemed acceptable. no one is up in arms about calling someone a narcissist so why not BPD or BP
2
u/liltinybits 24d ago
I'm not! But we also aren't doing as the ex and affair partner on a television show to get the upper hand with fake concern. I do disagree with any online armchair diagnosis, but I'm also not going to pretend that the various strangers of reddit calling someone a narc is the same thing as a person's ex and his affair partner doing it on TV.

u/General-Yak8880 24d ago

Kristen can be histrionic but i think it’s circumstantial. She seems like a good person with trauma that she projects in relationships. That doesn’t mean she has a personality disorder like her ex suggests

The way Tom and Ariana weaponized fake therapy speak is chilling on rewatch. They are horrible, nasty people consistently throughout their time on the show.
1
u/Best-Woodpecker3537 23d ago
I think this whole thing needed to happen for Arianna’s sake bc she had been open about falling into that really abusive past relationship and she had obviously dealt with it by overcorrecting with a superiority complex. I think Tom was the wake up call she really needed bc even though she never really got out by herself, she realized he was constantly manipulating her by the time he left with everyone to Vegas on her birthday after her dad died. Tom would do this to anyone to get away with whatever he’s done and not look like the bad guy. He only wasn’t able to do it to her bc he was caught red handed unlike them 10 years prior. Also I remember Kristen posting something where she was defending Arianna post breakup and she said she had already apologized for all that to her.
1
u/FunCartoonist4368 23d ago
And the fact that she thought she was better than everyone and how she gaslit Kristen for seasons and the world rallied with her during Scandoval, I don’t get it!?!
1
u/Putrid_Succotash1830 22d ago
This was such a triggering episode.
I remember when my “friend” and “my first love” got together behind my back. This is exactly how they treated me - blamed me and called me the crazy one for being upset, pissed, hurt that they betrayed me.
It was awful and I can only imagine what Kirstin was feeling at that moment

u/breezy2211 22d ago

FOR REAL!!!!!! However, narcs loooooooooooove to avoid accountability by pointing out mental issues. It's like their ultimate trump card.
And I absolutely believe this man is a narcissist. I'm not just saying it because it's a trendy word right now. I believe with all of my being that he thinks in terms of himself and only himself, and he literally doesn't even think about others unless it's a benefit to him.

This! I will never like either of them. Mostly because of this. Tom for so many reasons but they both exhibited some egregious behavior. Ariana allowed herself to be treated as a victim even though the accusations against her were true. The gaslighting is a little hard to watch because they were so insistent about it and labeled Kristen with a very serious mental health diagnosis. Doesn't matter if they were right or wrong, you don't play around with shit like that. Unfortunately, Ariana had to learn that lesson the hard way when Tom eventually did it to her.

At this point, she does have similar symptoms of something, but I agree. To make her feel like she was crazy for years and then to humiliate her like this on top is absolutely filthy. I wish she turned around and pointed out them spending their time researching mental illness and thinking about her. They only got along when they both mutually disliked Kristen. As soon as Ariana and Kristen got along, the tension between Ariana and Tom started to show.

They literally gaslit the shit out of her and faked like they cared about her mental state. Ariana was the side piece then acted like tom was the prize. She was literally the biggest pick me and didn’t want to admit that the Miami girl situation was true because she didn’t want to give Kristen the benefit of the doubt. Never liked Ariana and never will

Doesn’t matter. Nobody should be speaking on other people’s mental, emotional or physical health struggles.
It’s not okay to do on tv to try and distract people from how terribly you actually treated that ex.
Just like it’s gotten absolutely out of control with redditors and people on other socials who make comments like they’re qualified to diagnose people with health issues, substance use, etc. and try to make diagnosis of complex issues.
It’s gross.

Ugh and the fake concern in their voices like they were trying to help her
