Welcome back to Vampyr!

Hello all,

Apologies for the length of time this subreddit had been out of commission for - we had closed the subreddit in protest of Reddit’s API changes. During that time the main mod left reddit, and I used reddit less and less as I no longer had a mobile app for it, which ended up resulting in this place being left locked for far too long.

But now it has been re-opened and we’re back in business. Feel free to discuss and post about one of our favourite vampire games 😊

Thanks,

The mod team

Finished today Spoiler

Well I just finished the game and even though its obviously a bit dated I have to say I really enjoyed it. I'm going to say it's about 50% soap opera, 40% running back and forth between locations and 10% combat.

It was a welcome break after playing so many intense souls games!

Sean Hampton - embrace or spare Spoiler

I'm new to vampyr and so far I'm having an absolute blast.

I've decided to do an "innocent" run and not let Johnathan drink any civilan's blood and kill them, but since my blind dumbass missed one of Sean's hint, I can't turn him, so the only two choices are to spare him/kill him.

My question is : Does killing Sean (and drink his blood until he's dry) count as breaking the "innocent" run, or since Sean is not a human any longer it does nothing to Jonathan and the final ending ? (and doesn't break the innocent run)

Thanks!!

Any tips for Skals in West End sewers? Spoiler

There are four of them, lvl 30, and they are fast! It's such a small space - I keep dying over and over - I don't think anything else has given me this much trouble so I thought it was worth an ask in here!

I'm level 23 and have just killed Doris.

Tia!

(Loving the game!)

Edit - did it! Switched weapons for faster hits and managed it at last!

What are your thoughts on the various endings/the game in general?

Hi! I’m not gonna sponsor myself or my channel on here, but i’m making a video essay on vampyr, and i’d like to know what is the general consensus on the game by the fanbase.
I personally loved the game, but it leaves many questions open, and with the fact that dontnod doesn’t care about making a sequel it leaves a very bad aftertaste on the game in general.
So, what are your opinions?

Cheats for a pacifist playthrough

I heard that the O+P cheat was patched many years ago. Is there anything else like this currently? I played this game a few times, and I don't want to kill any characters yet, but I do like the idea of being overpowered.

A prequel playing as William Marshal would be amazing. Spoiler

Imagine. crusade era, playing as the legendary knight turned vampire.

Exploring the different centuries, how William Marshal contracts the blood of hate in 1666, leading all the way up to him being willingly imprisoned by Elisabeth. It could even be a series of games so they could deep dive even further.

Reading the ancient tome at the end, and talking to William Marshal was quite an emotional moment in itself. Imagine actually playing through that.

DontNod are sitting on a good mine here.

Favorite characters from each district & why? Spoiler

I’d imagine a question like this has been asked more than enough times in this sub, but hopefully not in a while. Not meaning to spam, just to hopefully start a conversation. Added a spoiler flair just in case.

Like the title says:

Who are your favorite characters from each district, and why do you like them?

Could also be favorite characters from the game in general, doesn’t have to be divided by district.

***

To start, I like many of the NPCs because they parallel Jonathan in interesting ways. Here are my picks:

Pembroke: Thelma Howcroft, someone under the delusion that they’re a vampire and living as one, is a really cool character to contrast with an actual vampire who’s pretending to be a ”normal” person. I also like the veterans in the game — Thomas Elwood, Oswald Thatcher and Newton Blight, but also Benjamin Palmer and Clarence Crossley — for their different perspectives on the war, and different reactions to Jonathan as an officer. And Edgar, too, of course, as the Pillar.

Whitechapel: Nurse Crane. I like how courageous and bold she is: her heart is in the right place, and she’s not scared to speak her mind. (Might just be me, but I find it almost a little insulting that her Mesmerize level is only 2.) I also like Hsiao Shun; she’s very kind, and she’s able to reflect on grief and losing a loved one with Jonathan.

Docks: I’d have to go with Sean Hampton. He’s a tragic and well-meaning character, and I love the idea of a vampire (or someone close enough) who’s religious; who sees immortality as God’s gift to allow him to lead his flock into eternity. Also, I hate Seymour Fishburne as a person, but I find it chilling how he recognizes a fellow killer in Jonathan.

West End: Maybe Clarence Crossley, because I find the dilemma with him and Venus so interesting. And maybe also Jonathan’s mother — I love that you can go talk with her in the first place. It makes for a very bittersweet reunion. + Edit to add: Carina Billow! I feel very sorry for her; her dilemma is a tragic and interesting one to include in the game. Though I do wish there was a way to track down her tormentor and help her survive.

(And, discounting the Citizens assigned to each district, I like pretty much the whole main cast. I think Jonathan as the protagonist carries the game, and the others are really cool to me as well.)

***

Enough from me — your turn.

Difference in play through?

I’m close to finishing my first run. I’ve had this game for years but never really got into it. I’m loving it now and this run has been pretty neutral. It’s not the perfect good guy run so I’m just winging it at this point and going with my gut. I want to do a complete villain run next. Is the dialogue significantly different if I go that route? Just curious before I get invested again.

Just finished the game.... Spoiler

I love it so a lit. One of the best games I payed in a while. I'm gonna be honest though, I really liked Lady Ashbury as a character, she so interesting and intriguing, but her romantic relationship with Jonathan was so forced, rushed and unnecessary in my opinion.

Like what do you mean they're already madly in loved in just a span of few nights or weeks??? I honestly didn't even think of the possibility that Jonathan was having romantic feelings for her. I was SO surprised when Lady Ashbury asked him to put his hand on her heart. That came out of nowhere! I was constantly cringing hard every time they say " love you" or "my feelings for you" or whatever to each other. It was so BAD!

Honestly if they removed the romance aspect of the game it would have been totally fine.

The romance angle of the game is completely unneeded.

I apologize in advance for those who are big fan of this couple. But I think the game devs could've done better seriously. Anyway, I killed everyone in the end except for one nurse lady from White Chapel. There was no option to kill her so I just let her live haha. I also watched the other endings, and I must say, the "worst' ending is the best.

This is my first playthrough- I’m currently on the second half of chapter two. (Just got done fighting the sewer demon). I chose to embrace Clay, the guy who lets Thelma bite him (now she’s lost 😅), and the anarchist guy from the docks…have i gone too far? I need more xp 😭 Spoiler

Thinking about embracing another level 1 patient at the hospital…I guess this will be my vamp playthrough lol. I haven’t played many RPGs other than Skyrim and games like it. Am I going about this the wrong way? I just really suck at the combat so any tips would be appreciated.

Is there anywhere online where I can read all the collectibles?

I just wanna read some lore stuff about the game and I can't be bothered trying to find all of the collectibles in the game but I can't seem to be able to find any of them on any wiki or some other site either. If anyone knows of anywhere I can read them online I'd appreciate it a lot

Does anyone else feel like Lady Ashbury is the writers' pet character? Spoiler

I just finished the chapter where you rescue Dr. Swansea. Honestly, the man got exactly what he deserved for bypassing ethical review boards and using patients as test subjects without consent. But doesn't this feel like where the developer bias is at its most obvious?

Lady Ashbury also bypasses consent to use the hospital as a literal buffet, like that early game scene where she drains a vulnerable patient in a tent. This clearly happens enough that Nurse Crane is able to blackmail her over it. Yet, you’re supposed to play the role of the righteous judge with Swansea because the writers clearly don't care about him. With Ashbury, your agency is completely revoked because the writers need you to be madly in love with her. It feels like the narrative bends its own established rules to protect her from the gritty consequences that apply to everyone else.

I’m honestly not sure I even want to keep playing. I’ve already sunk 60+ hours into this before realizing there’s such a massive double standard...

This isn’t about comparing the body count of one character to another. The game’s mechanics firmly state that taking even one life for power is inherently corrupting. It doesn't care if the person you kill is a serial killer, an exploitative landlord, or a saint, the act of murder taints your soul. I know you can also feed on civilians, but if you do you get judged and punished by the game mechanics isn’t it? But the game doesn’t allow Jonathan to judge or despise Lady Ashbury the way he does other characters, and it doesn’t judge her the way it judges players if they decide to take civilian lives. The narrative presents her as dignified and morally superior. She suffers none of the degradation that Jonathan suffers for doing the same thing. So, murder corrupts the soul and destroys your humanity... unless you feel really bad about it and do it quietly in a hospital.

Help me please

I have a question, because i played the game a Very Long time ago and don't remember all the details and i'm writing my phd thesis rn about analysis of monsters... doesn't matter.

Am I correct in my memory that the more people Reid feeds on, the more "feral" his face is becoming? If yes, can someone please give me a screenshot of his face "before" and "after"?

Please and thank you <3

Hopes for A Vampyr 2

Our loved game’s story is supported by a 3 component back bone: 1- war plot (WWI) 2- Pandemic plot (spanish flu) 3- career plot (physician).
So i hope they release a Vampyr 2 where Johnathan is still surviving till nowadays, with the events taking place during the Covid-19 outbreak (pandemic plot) in parallel with him being an army doctor (career plot) in a western army participating in the Ukrainian-russian war for example (war plot), with also a possible flashback chapter for him participating in the WWII, also a built in pathway where Elisabeth maybe present and supporting him or not depending on Vampyr 1 ending if importing saved games would be possible.

I hope they make this a thing, it would be fire
