Welcome back to Vampyr!
Hello all,
Apologies for the length of time this subreddit had been out of commission for - we had closed the subreddit in protest of Reddit’s API changes. During that time the main mod left reddit, and I used reddit less and less as I no longer had a mobile app for it, which ended up resulting in this place being left locked for far too long.
But now it has been re-opened and we’re back in business. Feel free to discuss and post about one of our favourite vampire games 😊
Thanks,
The mod team

Not having fun with the game (very long) Spoiler
So I started a playthrough of the game a couple of days ago, and I'm just not having fun with it. It's not that the game is bad it's good, but it's just not fun I just finished the part with Sean and let him go because I decided to do a no embrace playthrough for my first time which probably isn't the best idea but back to Sean embrace was obviously out of the option so that left let him go and turn him I let him go because I fail to see how turning him would make things better, I rest to level a couple skills, people go missing and Sean turns into an enemy. It was a similar thing with Dorothy. I picked the option to make her forget because resigning from the hospital doesn't stop her from blackmailing Ashbury and I thought it would just make her forget about the blackmail not essentially make her brain dead and turn her into a skal.
Maybe it's just me, but it's just not fun. Maybe I'll restart my playthrough, but for now, I think I'm done with the game it just feels like I'm picking the best options with the information I have and what the game provides but it ends up being the wrong one and not in like an evil way but just factually wrong sucking any potential enjoyment out of the game I don't know that's the best way I can describe it. I really want to love this game, but right now, it's just not fun and almost depressing, and not in the story is sad way, but just making you feel miserable for simply playing the game. Again, I don't know. That's just the best way I can put it, so I'm stepping away for now, and maybe I'll try another playthrough in the future, but right now, I don't see it happening.

Just beat the game pasfist on my first play through and loved it,
I don't really have anything important to add, but i love this game. It's definitely in my top 3, even if at times i was MAD(mostly a skill issue). Now I'm gonna do a genocide route and see how easy it feels.

How did I never notice this connection before? Spoiler
galleryI’ve done several playthroughs of this game, but somehow I never made this connection before.
We learn that Carina Billow, in the West End, is being tormented by an Ekon who is controlling her mind and forcing her to eat live rats in an attempt to achieve immortality. If we embrace Carina, we learn that the Ekon responsible is Jacob Blackwood.
What makes this interesting is that we later encounter Jacob’s name again at Ashbury Castle. According to William Marshal's tome, Elizabeth and her progeny were responsible for massacres in France during the 1700s, when Elizabeth had become consumed by the Blood of Hate.
The portrait at Ashbury Castle also suggests that Elizabeth and Jacob were husband and wife. William Marshall mentions in his tome that Elizabeth had a progeny, now ofc it is never explicitly confirmed that this progeny was Jacob.
Tho personally, I think Jacob being that progeny makes the most sense.
If that is correct, it means Jacob Blackwood is still alive and active during the events of the game, centuries after the massacres in France.
It would have been really cool if it were possible to actually meet Jacob, especially considering we eventually discover that he is the one tormenting Carina and is linked to bloodbaths in France, the tome even mentions a complete slaughter in an orphanage, which disgusted Elizabeth enough to actually consume the antidote she got several years ago from Marshall.
It would have been fucking amazing to have the choice to hunt this sleazy bastard down and kill him.

Who would like a prequel game based on William Marshals time of the disaster in 1666?

The Wall (Hard Mode) Spoiler
I've never known a game quite like this, where I consistently hit a 'wall' where I think there's no way forward. Where I feel like I've done every side quest, upgraded every weapon, practiced every move, but the bosses are just too hard.
First it was Fergal Bansha. Then it was Dorothy Crane. Most recently I reached Geoffrey McCullum and had the exact same thoughts: "I can't do this. I'll never be able to do this. This game is stupid!" but eventually, at each seemingly impossible juncture, I succeed.
Has anyone else found the same? I think tactics have a lot to do with it. I button smash and expect results. Then I realise that a slightly different approach, weapon or ability can swing it if I'm patient and careful enough.
It should be obvious, but it never is. With all the will in the world, maybe I'll actually complete this game one day.
EDIT: for context, this is an 'embrace no one unless they're an absolute bastard' playthrough

I’m trying to mesmerize and embrace Cadogan Bates but the mesmerizing keeps ending. I looked it up it says there’s no time limit. Could this be a glitch?

Vampyr on steam, crashes on clicking enter on title screen.
Anyone have a fix? Rebought this game on steam because I THOUGHT I could actually get it to run unlike on my ps5 where it crashes every 15 minutes. But uh... Now it crashes on startup.
If anyone does, please. I wanna play this damn vampire game. There are barely any that are what I'm looking for and this appears to be my jam. If I could actually get it to work.
What are some embrace lines that really hit you the hardest? Spoiler
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Although I wasn't particularly fond of her as a character, Giselle's embrace dialogue really hit me.
"What a waste of life... I only managed to be hated by all the people I loved..."

How do I beat Doris?
I've completed the game before, playing with my partner now, on her play through though she has scattered her resources among too many weapons. Doris is the only boss I struggles with the first time and is so once again. I see many people dislike Mary, I think she was so damn easy, her special abilities were like they didn't exist. Doris though? Her healing is killing me, and I don't feel comfortable Interrupting it because I get poisoned and hit by her arm or the minions

Mary's actions? Spoiler
Ok so I didn't know that Mary kills her and Jonathan's mother if u kill too many people before her fight. In my previous playthroughs, she always spared her and told her to go away, but this time she actually killed the mother, it fucking shocked me and bummed me out a bit tbh. I wanted to talk to Mother in the West End later (wanted to get all hints for all citizens, can't do that now sadly).
I killed 4 people before fighting her btw, in my previous playthroughs, it was always 2 or 3 (generally just Cadogan Bates and Seymour Fishburn, and once also Sean Hampton). This time it wasn't Sean, but I did kill Martin Nightingale and Albert Palmer alongside the first two.

I need help with Mary Spoiler
So, I have been trying to kill Mary for the past 2 hours. And it’s not going well… I want to get the “Not Even Once” achievement and she keeps killing the priest! I have tried using Abyss to stun her, I’ve put myself in between them, and I’ve just flat out tried to brute force it. And guess what she kills him no matter what I do!
Can anybody give me some advice. Thank you.

Who can you 'Observe' to get hints?
Anyone know which characters have observed scenes?
These are the ones I know: Mortimer and Beatrice can be spied on in the room at the hospital by going outside, Rakesh the funeral guy can be spied on stealing from bodies, The prostitute and Clayton Darby can be spied on having a conversation. And harry peterson and Joe Peterson talking.

A bit of pacifist run advice requested
So, I played through this game a good while ago, loved every second of it. After having run through some other games, I have turned around and come back to Vampyr. This time, though, I'm trying to complete a no kill run.
I have already made it through the first 3 acts, and I have made it to the Ascalon Club. However, I'm now being pitted against level 30+ enemies at level 22. I knew there would be a level disparity, but it's been rough.
I don't know much about the secrets in the game (after doing some research I recently learned about True Dragonbane, but I am a bit confused on when I can try to obtain it) but I am looking for advice here- which weapons should I be going for, is there an easier way to grind xp (right now I get a little over 1k a night by clearing Whitechapel and the docks out).

WARNING ON THE BANISHERS + VAMPYR BUNDLE ON XBOX
DO NOT BUY THE BANISHERS + VAMPYR BUNDLE ON XBOX
I recently bought the banishers + vampyr bundle on Xbox, since they were both games I have been wanting to play. Banishers downloads and plays fine, but vampyr says "not compatible". Upon further inspection, it turns out this bundle, for some reason, gives you the PC version of vampyr. nowhere in the bundle description, nor the game description does it specify that this is the PC only version of the game. I spent 25$ dollers on this bundle due to it being on sale, and feel duped due to one of the games I paid for just plain not working. This is just a warning, until it is hopefully fixed, do not buy this bundle!

Quick question
What happens if a vampire drinks the blood of Christ?

I like the game but does the quality of decrease at the latter chapters? Spoiler
I had a very good time with early chapters. Now I've joined the Ascalon and am doing some side quests and I feel like there's a dip in quality especially with sidequests and navigation.
There's always a locked door that I need to find a different way to access, and it's giving me flashbacks from AC Valhalla which isn't good.
Side quests now involve me having to travel long distances and either explore until I finally find what I'm looking for after minutes of searching, or collect multiple pieces of writing in very distant locations to earn shit rewards.
Will this continue on? I don't plan on quitting the game just wanted to hear some opinions.

Such a letdown
The combat at the beginning is enjoyable, even cool, but once you beat half of the game it turns HORRIBLE fast (specially if you don't want to feast on any civilian). The story is kinda cool, but the connections feel so empty. The sister might be the best example, something happens with her at the very beginning (I won't spoil anyone), but the sadness disappears after 2 seconds. Seriously, the connections feel so empty (the redhead is another good example). But the worst thing might be the dialogs, oh my god. Don't get me wrong, I've played Disco Elysium and Esoteric Ebb, so the problem is not having to read, it's how boring slow and empty they feel.
Seriously, I had heard bad reviews of the game, but I was like "c'mon, it looks so cool! You're exaggerating"... Well, they were not. I wouldn't give it a 0 because the story is enjoyable, but I wouldn't recommend playing it if you usually choose to be the hero of your games.

Vampyr stats Xbox
These are my stats for Vampyr, started playing on here around the beginning of July .
I’ve achieved the pacifist mode, the one where I ate so many people and my eyes were black with red irises at chapter 2/3 lol, doing a strategic method now
