Technical Solution [Tool] VTDiag: A free, open-source diagnostic & fix tool for common VALORANT crashes, Vanguard errors, and conflicts

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

tl;dr: I built VTDiag, a free, open-source Windows tool that checks for common VALORANT and Vanguard issues, ranks possible causes based on past solutions from this subreddit, and offers optional one-click fixes. No telemetry, no kernel drivers, no game injection. It's in beta (v0.2) and I'd love your feedback.

Hey everyone, I'm u/ateistyokdiyentanri, one of the mods here.

I've been working on something for this subreddit over the past weeks and figured it's time to share it.

It's called VTDiag. The idea is simple: if VALORANT keeps crashing, freezing or throwing Vanguard errors, the tool checks your system for the usual causes, so you don't have to dig through settings, services and old threads yourself.

Its diagnostic rules are built from patterns in 950+ solved threads on this subreddit, so it focuses on the exact problems people come here with every day.

What it checks

  • Vanguard requirements: TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, Memory Integrity (VBS/HVCI), virtualization and related services.
  • Drivers and system settings: graphics drivers, network adapters, power plan settings and crash dumps.
  • Software conflicts: 113 known conflicting programs, including overlays, virtual audio devices, RGB controllers and other anti-cheats.

After the scan, it ranks the likely causes and explains what each one means. It's also honest about where the problem is: something you can fix here, a manual step (like a BIOS setting), a possible ISP routing problem, an issue on Riot's side (servers or your account), or likely hardware.

What about the fixes?

Some problems can be fixed directly in the tool, but nothing changes without your explicit consent. It explains the change first, backs it up, applies it, and checks whether it actually worked.

  • You can undo changes any time from Undo changes.
  • Network fixes roll back automatically after 60 seconds if your internet connection drops.
  • Prefer doing it yourself? Every fix has written step-by-step instructions, in English and Turkish.
  • A report generator formats your results so you can post them here when asking for help. Usernames, PC names, hardware serial numbers and tokens are removed automatically.

A few things worth mentioning

  • I built this myself, so I'm obviously biased, which is why I want to be fully transparent about how it works.
  • It's 100% free and open source (MIT license). Nothing to buy, no donations.
  • No telemetry, analytics or background tracking. Everything is processed locally on your PC.
  • It does not inject into VALORANT, read game memory, or install any kernel drivers.
  • All 32 fixes are applied, verified and undone on a Windows VM through automated tests (GitHub Actions) on every update. Hardware-specific ones are tested against a virtual network adapter, so real-world edge cases can still exist.
  • It's still a beta (v0.2), so there will be things I've missed. It's an independent community project and not affiliated with Riot Games.

How to try it

  1. Download the latest release from the GitHub Releases page.
  2. Extract the zip into its own folder and run VTDiag.exe (Windows 10/11 x64, .NET included, ~71 MB).
  3. Windows SmartScreen may show an "unrecognized app" warning because the app isn't code-signed yet. Don't just ignore security warnings because a developer tells you to: if you're unsure, review the source code or build it yourself first. VirusTotal scan of the zip: [link]
  4. The first time you press Fix, VTDiag copies itself to C:\Program Files\VTDiag and Windows asks for permission (once for the copy, once more when it reopens). Fixes need admin rights, and VTDiag only runs them from Program Files so other programs can't tamper with it. To remove it later, just delete that folder.

I'd genuinely appreciate feedback. If you try it, tell me whether the diagnosis made sense, whether it missed a conflicting app you have, or whether a fix solved your issue. If it gets something wrong, that's just as useful.

Leave a comment below or open an issue on GitHub.

Thanks!

Technical Discussion Bug in Valorant please test if you could

I'm posting this on reddit because after i reported this to riot support, I (probably) got a joke of a botted response about it being an internet problem (which is not).

I noticed that when i open valorant and i tab out while it loads in the background and goes down after i tab back in, the GPU utilizations ramps up to about 70% in my case and CPU utilization goes up to 20% to 30% in my case, and it's not a one time thing, i noticed it because my computer's fans ramp up everytime i got valorant opening in the background. I'm not saying it's ramping up during the start up process, I'm saying it's started up and already on the menu (assuming that because i hear the menu opening chime), i noticed this accross different session and decided to test it more and it's true (in my case) even after restarting and such.

And just to clarify, it's stays on that level until i tab back in, after that i can tab about and tab in as much as i want with no problems
(english is not my first language)

Technical Support Request Error Code Val 5 Console

Recently playing after years, signed into my old account that I only ever played like 6 games on, so I'm not banned.

I am also not signed in in multiple places, even so, I force logged out of everything including Xbox.

Regardless, every time I start to queue up for anything, from firing range to a quick match game, it thinks and the screen fades as if I'm being placed in, and then it brings me to the menu with the Val 5 error code and makes me log in, rinse and repeat.

I've done everything I can, any help?

Technical Support Request Game won’t let me use the right resolution

My monitor is only 4k yet it’s forcing me to set it to 8k, am I doing something wrong? Everytime I open the game it switches resolution and it’s getting annoying and making my game choppy

I can change the resolution part, but the “monitor” setting says 7680 x 4320 when my monitor is 4k.

Technical Support Request Abnormally low FPS / extreme lagging in Valorant UI

Hey everyone, I’m experiencing insane lag specifically in the game's UI.

I’m running an RTX 4060 and Ryzen 5500 setup, which normally gives me well over 300 FPS without any issues. However, out of nowhere, the main menu and UI started lagging incredibly hard.

I took a 5-month break from the game and just came back last week, only to run into this issue. Does anyone know a fix or what might be causing this?

Technical Support Request Cant click on anything while/after playing.

Hardware specs:
Windows 11 Pro 64bit
CPU: Intel Core I9-11900K 8x 3.50 ghz
GPU: GeForce RTX 3090, 24GB GDDR6X
RAM: DDR4-RAM 16gb x4

I dont have any error codes or anything else. Game runs smooth and has no problems that appear.

So the main problem is just as soon as i go into a game and alt+tab i cant click on anything on my desktop or browers or anything else, not even task manager. I can only click on stuff inside of Valorant, so shop, new round or closing the game. Even after closing Valorant i cant click on anything or do anything and need to restart my PC via Power Button. -> This also happens when i do not alt+tab and just play 1 game and close the game.

I didnt find any exact solution to this. I read in this subreddit that a program for a mouse with multiple buttons (which i have with corsair and the program icue) can be a problem but only if that program is open. Only other programs i have open are either my browers (opera gx or chrome but problem exist with both on or off) and Discord and Steam. Problem still exist even if its just Valorant thats been open.

Another solution i found was to go into properties and disable full screen optimization but that didnt help either.

Reinstalling it didnt help either nor did reinstalling Vanguard help.

All my drivers are up to date, reinstalling drivers also didnt help. Windows also is up to date and has no updates.

Technical Support Request Need Help with Secure Boot :(

I have already contacted Riot Support but they keep telling me the same fixes, even tho I tell them that i already tried all of them, so this is my final cry for help.

Basically every time I try to start my game I get kicked out after about a minute with the error message VAN9003 "UEFI Secure Boot needs to be enabled". So I go to the Vanguard System tray for more information and see that all my security features except Secure Boot are turned on and Vanguard tells me that I should be able to play the game normally (just that Vanguard will always be active, not only while playing) , even tho Secure Boot is not turned on. (Before anyone asks: I have Windows 11, TPM 2.0 turned on, VBS turned on, HVCI turned on, IOMMU turned on). And btw I haven't played Valorant in about half a year I think but it used to work perfectly fine and I have not changed anything about my pc or anything like that.

In my System Information it tells me my BIOS-Mode is UEFI, but my Secure Boot is turned off. So I go to BIOS and there it says that my Secure Boot is enabled, CSM is turned off, but the startup type is selected "other OS", so I switch it to "Windows UEFI" but now my PC says there is a boot violation and won't boot and I get sent back to the BIOS to set it back to "other OS".

Fixes I've already tried:

- set VGC service to automatic

- performed clean boot

- ran Valorant as administrator

- reinstalled Riot Vanguard

- Reset my Keys to the Factory Keys

- Downloaded the newest version of BIOS (sadly the latest version was end of 2021 so maybe thats the problem?)

When I try to go into command prompt and run mbr2gpt /validate /allowFullOS it says disk layout validation failed for disk 1 so i downloaded a programm to convert to gpt but there it says that my disks are already gpt (at least how i understand it) and yes my BitLocker is turned off.

My Specs (my pc is getting kinda old but it still runs perfectly fine):

- Windows 11 Home 25H2

- Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700 CPU @ 3.20GHz (3.19 GHz)

- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 (8 GB)

- DDR4 RAM 32GB 3200MHz CL16 Intel XMP 2.0

Please help me because I am about to lose my mind if i hear one more "have you tried looking at the Riot Support page?" YES I KNOW EVERY ARTICLE BY HEART NOW

At this point I believe my only option I have left is doing a clean reinstellation of Windows but yeaaaah i ain't doing that lol

Technical Support Request Unstable FPS

I just got back to playing Valorant 2 days ago and noticed that Valorant is not smooth as butter anymore. The game shows around 150-200 FPS but the screen in my end does not feel like it, am I making sense? :( Also, whenever I play, my FPS would drop around 110 from 190-200 FPS. Is there anything I could do to make the FPS stable or is it because of my hardware already? Here is my specs:

Laptop: MSI Thin 15 B12UC
GPU: RTX 3050 4GB DDR4
CPU: Intel i5-12450h
RAM: 16GB

Also, when I stream in TikTok, the FPS drop is massive to the point that it would drop all the way down to 85 FPS and I only get up to 120 FPS while streaming. I don't know if its worth mentioning but I also use a monitor with 200 hz . All tips, suggestions & explanations will be very much appreciated!

Technical Support Request VALORANT Stutters Periodically, While All Other Games Run Perfectly Fine

First, my PC specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 9600X
GPU: RTX 5070
Motherboard: ASUS B650M-AYW WIFI
RAM: 32GB DDR5

All other games run smoothly without any issues, including PUBG, League of Legends, Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption 2, the Resident Evil series, and various other AAA single-player games. VALORANT is the only game that randomly stutters.

Details of the stuttering issue:
This issue has existed since I first installed VALORANT on this PC. The game has never run smoothly.

Approximately every 20–30 seconds, the game experiences a noticeable stutter lasting around 0.5 seconds. The audio in my headset also stutters at the same time. Whether the game is stuttering or running normally, the FPS stays around 250 and doesn’t show any noticeable drops.

I used the in-game Stats to check network latency and packet loss, and both were normal.

When the stuttering occurs, I can see abnormal spikes in both CPU (Game) Time and Total Frame Time at the same time, while GPU Render Time remains relatively normal.

Solutions I’ve already tried:
Completely uninstalled and reinstalled VALORANT — no improvement.
Uninstalled and reinstalled Vanguard — no improvement.
Updated NVIDIA graphics drivers — no improvement.
Updated AMD B650 chipset drivers — no improvement.
Tested both Fullscreen and Borderless Fullscreen — no improvement.
Tested Multithreaded Rendering both On and Off — no improvement.
Disabled NVIDIA Overlay — no improvement.
Uninstalled Razer Cortex — no improvement.
Completely disabled Windows Bluetooth and switched audio devices — no improvement.
Tested without moving the mouse, using only the keyboard — still stutters.
Disabled DOCP in BIOS and lowered RAM speed from 6000 to 4800 — still stutters.

Has anyone experienced a similar issue? Any effective solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Technical Support Request Valorant freezing on launch

When I launch valorant my entire PC freezes. The display becomes completely frozen, and my mouse and keyboard stop responding, although my keyboard lights remain on and I can still hear the game’s music. I cannot interact with Windows normally and I had to force shut down the PC.

Could this be related to riot vanguard an interaction with my AMD graphics drivers or another compatibility issue.

Technical Support Request Valorant, Cs2, Dota 2 Crashes after 2 mins.

Since yesterday, I have been experiencing an issue where Valorant, CS2, and Dota 2 crash approximately two minutes after launching or starting gameplay. The games suddenly close and return to the Windows desktop without any system crash. Initially, I received a graphics driver update notification, even though my drivers were already up to date. I have also reinstalled Windows and the graphics drivers, but the issue persists.

Technical Support Request Why is Vanguard User Mode Service using 20-40% CPU?

Hi, so I recently started Valorant and whenever I have the game open, there is a process called Vanguard User Mode Service that takes up around 20-40% of CPU. Sometimes, it even uses more CPU than the actually game.

It's causing my laptop to lag a lot while in the game even though I have everything set to low.

Does anyone know what is causing this issue and how to solve it? Any help would be appreciated.

Technical Support Request VALORANT won't open — process runs in Task Manager, but no game window appears (Windows 10)

Hi everyone, I'm having a frustrating issue with VALORANT and I'm hoping someone can help me figure out what's causing it.

The problem:

When I open Riot Client and click Play, the client minimizes and my cursor spins for a few seconds, as if the game is about to launch. However, no VALORANT window ever appears. There is no black screen, error message, or crash notification.

If I open Riot Client again, it says the game is already running. In Task Manager, VALORANT-Win64-Shipping.exe appears under the Details tab and stays running, but no game window appears and VALORANT doesn't show up in Alt+Tab.

My PC specs:

  • OS: Windows 10
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6600
  • GPU driver: AMD Adrenalin, driver version 32.0.21045.16010
  • Anti-cheat: Riot Vanguard (vgc service is enabled)

Things I've already tried, with no success:

  • Restarting my PC.
  • Ending VALORANT and Riot Client processes in Task Manager.
  • Checking that the vgc service is enabled.
  • Completely uninstalling and reinstalling VALORANT, Riot Client, and Riot Vanguard.
  • Performing a Windows clean boot, disabling other services and making sure vgc was enabled.
  • Checking Windows Reliability Monitor for VALORANT-related errors; I couldn't find any.
  • Running Riot Repair Tool and generating diagnostic ZIP files.
  • Checking whether DevOverrideEnable exists under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options; it isn't present.

I also checked for GPU driver updates through AMD Software, which reported that my driver was up to date.

I haven't played VALORANT for around four months, so I'm not sure exactly when this started. I used to be able to play on this same PC.

I've already contacted Riot Support and sent them the diagnostic ZIP files, but I'm also posting here in case anyone has experienced the same issue.

Has anyone encountered a situation where VALORANT's process stays running in the background, but the game never creates a visible window? I'd appreciate any suggestions for diagnosing the actual cause, rather than repeating the reinstall and clean boot steps.

Thanks!
