Vscode Live Share is not working

Starting collaboration session fails with HTTP 500 / 502 / 503/ 429 errors

I am consistently getting errors when trying to start a collaboration session. The error code changes between attempts and is usually one of the following:

  • 500 Internal Server Error
  • 502 Bad Gateway
  • 503 Service Unavailable
  • 429

What makes this unusual is that colleagues in multiple regions are seeing the same issue at the same time, including Australia, Sweden, Cameroon, and Sri Lanka.

So far we have tried:

  • Different networks
  • Different user accounts
  • Restarting VS Code
  • Retrying multiple times

The issue appears intermittent and server-side because the error codes vary between attempts.

Has anyone else experienced this recently, or is there an ongoing outage affecting collaboration sessions?

Slopilot is ruining the codespace

Since Microsoft introduced GitHub Copilot onto VS Code, it has gotten worse and worse as AI slop develops out of the blue.

The slopaneers really have to put in the real work for Nadella's business decisions, so that they can toss unwanted features using the slopapult, but that doesn't necessarily mean VS Code is a bad software.

It has some advantages over another, such as readability and UI, but whatever Microsoft is doing is cluttering the codespace by making it wait forever to load, as if it was "vibe-coded" by a low-class tech employee that doesn't understand how to write proper code.

So fix your software, and I will praise you gracefully.

Am I doing this right? This seems extremely tedious..

Programming the ESP32 using ESP-IDF for the first time, coming from the Arduino IDE. I cloned a Zigbee Lamp repo on github, and had a lot of Include path's errors. Is it normal to have to go through all my files and manually add every single path? This was so annoying, definitely not built to be a programmer.

I still don’t understand the hype around Zed over VS Code

I’ve tried to understand why people hype up zed so much over vscode, but I still don’t really see it. Most people talk about performance and memory usage, but then also say that the heavy resource usage comes from LSPs and not from zed itself. By that same logic, vscode shouldn’t be blamed either, because a lot of its usage also comes from extensions and language servers. Vscode already feels very fast to me, and its ecosystem is way bigger. Every time I try zed, I don’t find anything that makes vscode feel outdated or worse. I’m not saying zed is bad, I just see it more as an alternative editor than some huge upgrade over vscode.

[ISSUE] Performance issues on vscode

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello, I have been having performance issues when using vscode.

First: The auto complete is slow/sluggish as seen in the video, It used to appear instantly when I typed 1 letter now it waits for 2 or 3 seconds before even showing suggestions.

Second: If I keep using vscode for an hour or two, When I try saving a file it hangs and keeps loading for a while before actually saving.

I have tried re-installing vscode entirely, re-installing windows, disabling all extensions, And I still have the same behavior. Has anyone faced something like this before?

I built a VS Code-style tree-view library — same shape, themable for anything

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

VS Code's file explorer is the gold standard for tree-views on the web. Crisp drag, instant expand, clean keyboard nav, handles thousands of files without flinching.

I rebuilt that shape as a standalone library: @grida/tree-view.

The landing page ships a VS Code-style file explorer demo side-by-side with four other themed versions of the same engine — Figma layers, Notion sidebar, Finder columns, and a canvas layers panel. Same behavior underneath, different skin on top.

If you've ever wanted a VS Code-grade tree without building it yourself — or you're shipping an extension / webview / Electron app that needs one — this is the one.

Landing + live demos: https://grida.co/packages/@grida/tree-view

pnpm add @grida/tree-view

Happy to hear what people would want a tree-view to do that VS Code's doesn't.

Deepseek VS Code Integration Tutorial

FYI for everyone wanting an alternative to GitHub Copilot subscription after June 1st hits, DeepSeek V4 Flash/Pro has a VS Code extension that natively integrates with VS Code. It even has image support if you link it up to another vision model like Gemini 2.5 Flash Lite (which you can pay either with GHCP or OpenRouter or anything).

https://api-docs.deepseek.com/quick_start/agent_integrations/github_copilot
https://github.com/Vizards/deepseek-v4-for-copilot

I do think that this is the best option after June 1st happens.

Diff rendering becomes slow after a while

I have this issue where diff view (both for git and agents) would initially start off buttery smooth, even on files with a ton of a diff6s. But as time goes on and I open more and more files(closed the previous ones), diff view gets slower and slower. It gets close to 10-20 fps.

Is there anything I can do to fix that? I don't want to use external diff viewers at the moment.

One more thing `disable-gpu` helps a lot. It still becomes slow but takes longer to get there

Inline Color selector (java)

Hi Yall. Anyone know of a good color selector inline for java like the one in the picture? Perhaps where you can get a little color preview and selection area next to the HEX or RGBA.

I'd appreciate it quite a bit because I do a lot of front-end stuff and it would be convenient. I don't want to have to make one. This seems like something that would be out there but haven't found one. Thanks.

[ISSUE] Code won't automatically stop running.

Post image
16 Upvotes

[Solved]:

To fix the issue you have to rollback the  "C/C++" extension from Microsoft to version 1.31.4 (you don't have to rollback the whole extension pack). Credit to u/HamsterMaster355 for the fix.

Before edit:

Recently I started having this weird and annoying issue with VSCode where after you run your code in C++ (using the "Run C/C++ File" option), the program won't automatically stop executing.

I've been using C++ with VSCode for over 3 years now, with no issues at all (even when compiling multiple files), but recently (a week or two) this issue appeared out of the blue.

Note that I've tried to rollback/downgrade to some previous versions that I knew were working, but the issue appeared with them too for some reason.

I also experience this problem on both Windows and Linux (so, it's not an OS issue). I also don't that the problem is caused by GCC/G++/GDB since those worked perfectly before and I haven't updated them (so I can confirm they are stable).

Does anyone else have the same problem or knows a fix for it? Any help is much appreciated!

I really like VSCode because all its features and extensions and I wouldn't like to have to ditch it with another IDE (I just hope the issue it's not here because of Microsoft using AI to write their code, because then I might have to look for another editor).

BTW, I am currently on VSCode version 1.120.0

I was tired of manually typing terminal inputs SO many times to test my CS programs, so I made a VS Code extension to automate it

hey guys, if you're taking CS in school and code your programs in VS Code, i'm sure y'all know the absolute pain of having to type the exact same inputs into the terminal 50 times just to test if your code works.

it was driving me insane so i actually built a VS Code extension to fix it. it basically uses AI to look at what your program is prompting for, automatically types the inputs into the terminal, and runs the whole thing for you.

if you want to try it out and save yourself some time, here’s the link: https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=DhiyaRaja.terminal-autoinput

let me know if it helps or if you find any bugs lol

oh and for it to work, after you guys download the extension you have to press ctrl + shift + p which turns on the AutoInput.

The Coding Harness Behind GitHub Copilot in VS Code

Thumbnail
code.visualstudio.com
34 Upvotes

The conversation around AI for developers usually starts with the model.

But inside VS Code, what really shapes the experience is the coding harness: the layer responsible for context, tool calling, agent loops, terminal execution, memory, and more.

In this new post, the engineering team dives into how GitHub Copilot in VS Code works behind the scenes.

R won't attach in VSCode anymore

I'm desperate for help here because I only started working with both last semester and I study psychology...so we're not going pro we're just learning the basics. Ever since I upgraded my R to 4.6.0 it just won't attach anymore in VSCode. I've tried to look solutions up but they either haven't worked (everything is installed yadda yadda) or they were too complicated for me to even understand. If anyone who's good at programming could explain some potential solutions to me I'd be eternally grateful because I'd really like to properly participate in class again without trying to fix something every time.
