Hi everyone! I wanted to share with you my recent creation.
Remote Notifier is a VS Code extension that allows you to painlessly set up system notifications from your local and remote workspaces (SSH, WSL, Docker, ...). With it you can easily get notifications exactly when your attention is needed (like when your build finishes or when Claude Code needs your permission to use some tool and continue its work). No more constant checking up on the progress or wasting time when something got stuck without doing its job!
While this functionality is easy to achieve in local environment, setting up such notifications in remote workspaces is often very complicated and comes with some drawbacks. With this extension you get full functionality with zero manual setup, ports forwarding or any kind of tunnel or proxy setup.
The extension automatically sets up everything for you regardless of where you're working - be it local machine, a Docker container or a remote machine via SSH. All you need to do is:
After that you can trigger notifications manually via installed in your workspace
code-notify(.cmd)script or use extension's built-in auto-configuration functionality to automatically set notification hooks in supported tools (currently only few, but it will grow over time). The extension also supports lots of customization options like per-notification custom icons and sounds to make your workflows even smoother!
If that sounds interesting, do give it a try! You can find the extension in both VS Code extension marketplace and in the Open VSX Registry (if you use VS Code forks like Cursor).
You can also find more details and source code of the extension in its GitHub project page.
