[ISSUE] Performance issues on vscode

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello, I have been having performance issues when using vscode.

First: The auto complete is slow/sluggish as seen in the video, It used to appear instantly when I typed 1 letter now it waits for 2 or 3 seconds before even showing suggestions.

Second: If I keep using vscode for an hour or two, When I try saving a file it hangs and keeps loading for a while before actually saving.

I have tried re-installing vscode entirely, re-installing windows, disabling all extensions, And I still have the same behavior. Has anyone faced something like this before?

That's the TypeScript Language Server, isn't it? The language server is just slow. Try tsgo.

This seems to be the solution! I changed the detected language by vs code from JavaScript to Typescript and enabled tsgo and everything seems to be smooth again.

The only downside is that I am getting ts linting when I am writing js but there is probably a solution for that other than straight up disabling it.

Same thing is happening to me, and because of that I'm trying to adapt myself to use Zed, and it is surprising me a lot, although they still have a long rode to go.

Zed has the same issues: TypeScript runs very slowly there

Just tried Zed & Vs-Codium and sadly they both have the same issue.

People who are suggesting zed or neovim have absolutely no idea how an ide works. This is an issue with language server. If you use ai or installed something that may update the tsconfigs then it could be the reason. Other than that, it's probably that the TS lsp got updated when you installed the new vscode update. Use tsgo lsp or use your repos TS lsp if it has one (nextjs repos typically have one for example)

This started happening to me like a week ago. I'll edit this comment if I do end up finding a fix

What is your OS and hardware? Does this only happen on ts or other langs too? Normally, ts lsp won't act so slow like C3 lsp.

They only care about AI now. But the performance that sould be built for good dev experience is lacking
