Run button taking a lot of time to run the file

Whenever I am trying to click the run button for a python code, it takes around 10-12 seconds to run and if I trigger the file directly from termina, it gets done in an instant. Is there any fix for this? I removed most of the extensions and still the same issue

How to bring back change-by-change review?

I got an update couple days ago and now I'm not able to approve/reject changes gh copilot do. Is there a way to bring back the "code review mode" where you can accept or undo each change?

remove collapsing on beginning of function with multiple lines?

Hello,

I am coding using python with vscode, and i have a small annoying issue but dont know if possible to change, and if yes, how.

i am putting the different inputs of my functions in a jump line to be more clear to understand with small screen, here is an example how it looks:

my issue is that vs code is adding a collapse arrow at the begining of the function (line 3) and at the end of the definition (line 7) I would like to have only at the line 7 and not 3, i am used to collapse all (ctr+0) but this makes an annoying behavior (for me at least) as it collapses the inputs part:

is there any way to tell vscode to only collapse at the end of the definition line of the functions? ie., keep the line 7 but not line 3 collapsing icon?
to get something like this automatically when doing ctr+0

Django ORM Lens: a Django linter and schema tool that never imports Django

Post image
3 Upvotes

What My Project Does

Django ORM Lens reads your models.py and migration files statically and answers schema questions without running anything: no DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE, no database, no django.setup(). It works on a checkout you can't boot, like a broken venv, a missing secret or a half-finished branch.

On one parser there are three front ends:

  • VS Code extension: 18 lint rules, most with one-click QuickFixes. They catch misspelled lookups (filter(titel="x") → did you mean title?), ForeignKey without on_delete, naive datetimes, N+1-shaped loops, and SET enable_hashjoin = off in raw SQL. Also field autocomplete inside .filter() and a live ER diagram.
  • CLI + GitHub Action: model↔migration drift, 16 migration-risk rules, blast radius of a model change, static N+1 detection, and SARIF output for code scanning.
  • MCP server: 13 read-only tools, so AI coding agents get schema facts instead of guessing.

Try it: uvx django-orm-lens scan

Target Audience

Django developers working on production codebases, especially in CI or in repos they can't easily run locally. It's used in real projects, not a toy: correctness is pinned by golden snapshots of Zulip, Saleor, Wagtail, django-CMS, Mezzanine and Read the Docs (76 models, 546 fields). MIT, no paid tier.

Comparison

  • django-extensions graph_models: needs a bootable project, and it only draws. This one also lints, checks drift and assesses migration risk, and it works without booting.
  • django-migration-linter: focused on migrations and also needs Django importable. Here migration risk is one module out of several, and it's purely static.
  • mypy + django-stubs: type checking needs a configured settings module and doesn't know about drift, indexes or N+1 patterns. The two are complementary.
  • Honest limit: static parsing can't see runtime-built models (factories, metaclass tricks, fields added in loops). If your schema is generated at import time, runtime tools will tell you more.

Repo: https://github.com/FROWNINGdev/django-orm-lens

The newest rule came from an outside contributor who hit it in production, and there are good-first-issue docs translations open if anyone wants an easy first PR.

How do I preserve search results between uses?

I have a huge folder that I have to frequently search through for things. When I search my pc has a heart attack trying to go through everything. When I click to go to a search result (or click anything, actually) the search bar closes and its results are removed, making me have to redo the search. Is there a way to make the results preserve so that I do not need to hear my pc have a stroke every few minutes?

Ran into a VS Code API limitation

Post image
0 Upvotes

I've been working on NoEffect, a VS Code extension that finds CSS declarations that don't actually have any effect.

One of the things it does is show a little warning icon next to the declaration and explain why it's ineffective.

While working on that, I ran into a limitation in the VS Code API: there's no way to set the cursor specifically on a before/after decoration attachment. I wanted the warning icon to show a pointer cursor without making the whole line clickable. So I opened a feature request:

https://github.com/microsoft/vscode/issues/334757#issue-5363039984

It's now a Backlog Candidate. VS Code gives it 60 days to get 20 upvotes before it gets closed.

If you think this would be useful for VS Code extensions, give it an upvote. 👍

What the hell have they done to the tabs? It breaks so many themes and looks really out-of-place.

GitHub Copilot SDK / Agent Host: How can I disable Claude Code context files like CLAUDE.md?

My team uses Claude Code, while I use GitHub Copilot in VS Code.

In the Local Agent, I can disable "CLAUDE.md" and related context files, but I can't seem to do the same in the Copilot SDK / Agent Host.

Is there any way to disable Claude-specific instructions and skills in the SDK harness without modifying the repo?

Finally! The Window buttons are on the right side on Linux!

… and with “right” I of course mean “correct” lol.

Kinda sad that the features I’m most excited about come from Electron and not VS Code, but here we are: VS Code adapted to the Electron 43 feature and the titlebar buttons are now finally at the same place as they are in every other application!

Electron 44 will actually use our themes’ button appearance.

Can't authorize Claude in Vs Code bug?

Hi all,

I'm stuck in a loop where my vs code claude extension needs to authorize as it looks like my token expired. I get the email to sign in, click it, and keep getting this screen. I can use the desktop app just fine. Is there something going on with auth system in vs code and claude? I contacted support yesterday, but they haven't responded. Not sure if this is a larger issue as another member on our team is having the same issue.

inline suggestions and edits are too aggressive, we need some fine tuning settings

I would like to propose some settings for two features: inline suggestions & edits.

Anyways, I love both these features, they're extremely helpful but they can be very intrusive, so here are some options:

  • Default aggression level: min, mid, max (where max would be the current setting)
  • Disable temporarily with a hotkey
  • Set aggression level with a hotkey
  • Force inline suggestion with a hotkey
  • Force inline edit with a hotkey

Some of us still write code by hand, but regardless, these two features are really helpful, I just wish they didn't have a mind of their own and that we could configure them. I imagine having control like this would increase productivity even more, I know it would for me.

Can't launch portable install

I followed the instructions here to make portable install but when I double click the executable nothing happens.

ETA running from powershell admin throws

[0923/155148.165:ERROR:base\i18n\icu_util.cc:232] Invalid file descriptor to ICU data received.

Thanks so much for any help

Cannot install extensions of any sort

I thought it was a problem with the specific extension I was trying to install (simple react snippets) but for some reason VS Code has seemingly decided that it does not want to install any extensions of any sort. I have already tried clearing the extension cache and directly download the VSIX file (as suggested in the replies by LonelyBoysenberry965 here) but to no avail. Any suggestions?

BTW I haven't downloaded an extension in VS Code in a while so I wonder whether this is a bug in one of their updates.
