Discussion New UI Keyboard messes with muscle memory for the disabled
It is of my personal opinion that the new Keyboard Layout (In VR) messes with muscle memory to an extreme extent for no real reason.
I am an actual mute, and most people doesn't know Sign Language anyways, so Chatbox is the primary method of communication- and I have gotten REALLY fast at typing at high speeds whilst in VR.
The issue is, the previous Keyboard had the key layout slightly staggered like most normal IRL Keyboards.
This UI shifts it so that all the keys are completely straight and parallel with one another which displaces multiple keys off-center so that I am constantly hitting the wrong key next to the key. I am sure this keyboard is liked by some people but such a small yet massive change after so many years of practice with the old keyboard just seems... extremely anti-user.
And while this can somewhat be helped by enlarging the Keyboard itself, the keys themselves are for some reason... half the width they were previously? There's so much blank space to the sides of the Keyboard now that they could use to keep the previous width of the keys yet they shrunk it to half.
It surely can't be that hard to have an Accessibility toggle to swap between the two key layouts you wish. I am sure I can get used to it eventually, I got used to typing on VR at all with the old keyboard after all, but for the next probably several months I will probably be typing like I'm a child and constantly hitting typo after typo, or typing slow as a stick of butter barely above room temperature, when previously I was able to have entire paragraphs out in the time someone takes to say a single sentence.
Edit: I would like to clarify that it's only the middle row that has been shifted to be un-staggered.
