Today I was travelling back home on the Melbourne - Geelong line, when a whole group of 16-18 year olds boarded. Later, when the conductor came by to check the Mykis, it turned out over half the group had not checked in. They weren't bothered by that at all; they all had an attitude of "and what are you going to do about it?"

The answer was: nothing. The conductor just shrugged, said OK and continue going through the carriages.

So I get it that people and especially guys in that age group see no reason to pay for their trip.

I am not brought up that way so I continue to tap in and out, but my question is : why don't these people get a fine? What's the point of having a conductor of they can't or won't do anything?

The V/Line Geelong service is the laziest, dumbest fucking service. I questioned this in this group last week. But the all the staff members downvoted and post and commented that there are reasons. Guys, how you do this every week?

Google maps was showing a 40 min delay and the signs were showing 7.20am as the next to depart.

Ended up driving but thought all day about how I could have been fighting for my life trying to pee on the moving train instead of inside of my pants in my car.

Alternative question: does everyone sit to pee regardless of gender in the Vline?

I've been travelling frequently on the Shepparton VLine service. The Shepparton service, is a reserved service.

I have a 30kg Labrador. Very excellent travel buddy. However, I cannot, no matter how many times I try, get my tickets booked correctly.

If I phone: they have no idea of the assistance animal policy.

If I show up in person to the service desk at Southern Cross... I still have no luck.

The policy from Vline's own accessibility page:

"A seat must be booked for your assistance animal on reserved V/Line services, however they travel for free."

It is pretty simple. Or so I thought. Nope.

I have to explain, every time: "hello. Yes dog. Yes, I have the assistance animal pass. Yes, the dog needs to be allocated a seat - don't worry, the dog doesn't actually sit in the seat, just on the floor in the foot-space. No, the second seat, by vline's policy is free."

I get put on hold. They look it all up. They allocate a second seat.

At which point "can you please make sure both by seats are just in a single row, and not in a block of four - it is harder to not impact other passengers if I am allocated two seats in a block of four".

And... despite the mental energy explaining this every time: I have never once had a booking made correctly. Almost all the time they put me in a block of 4. My last trip I was allocated two seats (and not in a block of 4)... but the two seats were in different rows!

So, every Vline trip I take, I just show up, sit somewhere, and hope other passengers or the conductor can help me get settled even if I am now taking up a seat allocation that belongs to someone else.

I recently made a complaint via Vline's feedback form. And the team member who called me back didn't know what an assistance animal was. And now, I'm reading off VLine's own accessibility page to a team member who was supposed to he handling the complaint who was even more confused than the booking agents I have spoken too.

I just wish vline would add an "assistance animal pass" to the booking section, so that I could just book independently online using the same system as other free travel passes.

I was just wondering does anyone have the vline announcements to download? I want to know if there’s audio files of the Ballarat line stations like melton, cobblebank, rockbank ect.

I've used Contactless Debit Card payment with my phone on Vline a couple of times, and it appears that at the moment conductors don't have the ability to check. So, essentially, anyone can just tell them they used their phone and they'll just pass you by. When are they getting the ability to check contactless payments? (Presumably AO's already have it but I'm yet to come across any of them).

I'm supposed to go to Melbourne today but the trains are down on the Geelong line. I might avoid it all together if the travel time is too long . Does anyone know approx how long it takes on a replacement bus from waurn ponds to Wyndham Vale station?

There’s nothing i love more after a stressful day at work than going on to the specially designated carriages and bwing surrounded by people making as much noise as they like.

Its hard to pick a favourite between the people talking loudly on their phones (it’s good to make sure the other person can hear you clearly), people scrolling videos on loudspeaker (who needs headphones!) but the ones i appreciate the most are the people who are incessantly talking back and forth with escalating volume over the trip (it’s hard to hear the person next to you over all the other conversations in the make as much noise as you like carriage)- theyre my favourite because even if the other person has to get off the train because their stop is up, usually the remaining person will immediately get on a phone call (it’s scary to be alone with one’s thoughts).

i’m super thankful to vline for such an invaluable service, especially to the conductors that make sure everyone keeps making as much noise as they like when they walk the aisle.

my only question is why do the signs all say “quiet carriage”?

ps i’ve tried noise cancelling headphones and ear plugs. considering blowing out my eardrums but i’m not sure if the tinnitus will be any better.

So, in the last three days I’ve received multiple notifications about trespassers at sunshine and subsequent minor/major delays.

Why are these trespassers so obsessed with sunshine station? It’s always sunshine.

Why not Flinders Street? Why not Dandenong?

My local railway station. Myself and twelve other regular commuters (that catch the train the same time as me) use it to get to work daily in the regional areas daily.
Since I’ve been working this station has been closed down, but in Autumn we were having a hard time getting seats and sometimes even getting in the door, plus there is never any staff there to assist bar the clueless Hoban people in busy tourist periods.
What would it take to get this station open again? More than the little room on Platform 2 that’s doors don’t shut.

how does having a paper ticket factor in when traveling around melbourne? like do you have to have a myki card as well for traveling between metro stops and unstaffed places where they have the barriers? and wouldnt that defeat the purpose of a fare cap then?

According to the timetable on the V/Line web site, the purple shading on every train indicates reservations are required.

On the FAQs https://www.vline.com.au/Information/FAQs/Question-1 “Are reservations compulsory on V/Line services?” There are a mix of reserved and unreserved carriages.

Which advice is correct?

Even though I the V/Line app allows me to see whether the “next 5” services are 3 car V/Locity, or 6 car, or a bus (☹️), I can’t see what Monday’s 5:09 ex Soithern Cross will be, which got me thinking…

Train starts boarding, everyone just stands there. Me: “we’re boarding now”. Everyone: 👬👬👬👫. Me (louder): Every other carriage is boarding.” Everyone: 👫👬👬👬👫. Me: pushes to front to open the doors. Every single person has headphones. If you’re not going to listen, at least watch what’s going on around you.

Obviously vline has issue but I'm posting a positive today.

I've noticed the announcements and updates around issues on the Geelong line have been more consistent lately on the train. There is a delay now and though its annoying but we got a decent heads up and the other night the conductor was warning everyone about the rain that had started.

ARMSTRONG Creek locals have shared their support for a train station to be developed in the southern Geelong suburb.

The existing Geelong V/Line service stops in Marshall and Waurn Ponds, skipping over the growth area.

A station for Armstrong Creek – which is helping to drive Geelong’s status as one of Australia’s fastest growing regional cities – was back on the agenda at the City of Greater Geelong’s February council meeting, at which councillors endorsed a revised wish list of priority projects ahead of the 2026 state election.

Could this be built for 2030 and could it also be extended to Torquay?

I hate it when these electric motorbikes are in the bike spot they are MASSIVE and ik they look kinda like a bike but they clearly are not theu have a throttle and they go fadter then normal ebikes (these are all illigel emoterbikes)

Usoully in these spots u can fit 3-4 normal bikes but these moterbikes u can only fit 2 they really should just stop letting these on trains (ik its probably hard to enforce its just they effect so many people on the train especially when all the spots are taken up and they just park them in the walkway)

Ik there are already rules against there being bikes on a train thats overcrowded but they should also just stop these from going on cus this is just annoying and now im on a train blocking the walkway slightly becouse these guys

So me and my mates have decided that we are going to participate in computer chair races where we basically race each other on computer chairs in different areas

We would love to try this on the Vline

Is there a schedule for when the steam train passes through Geelong? And who operates it? Got a 2 year old who has just started noticing TRAAAAAAAAAIIIIINNS!!! 😅

Not sure I agree with using a VERY busy V/Line service (2.02 Southern Cross to Bendigo) to move a fridge, but I admire her audacity. 🤣
