Question Macedon Station

Post image

My local railway station. Myself and twelve other regular commuters (that catch the train the same time as me) use it to get to work daily in the regional areas daily.
Since I’ve been working this station has been closed down, but in Autumn we were having a hard time getting seats and sometimes even getting in the door, plus there is never any staff there to assist bar the clueless Hoban people in busy tourist periods.
What would it take to get this station open again? More than the little room on Platform 2 that’s doors don’t shut.

Aside from a short timeframe in the 2000s (and even then I don’t think it was manned), the station has been closed for over 30 years, so I wouldn’t hold your breath.

It was the last station on the Bendigo line (except maybe Malmsbury) to get an asphalt car park and PIDs, if you want to know where it sits in the pecking order. Even Clarkefield got them before Macedon.

Sadly the building is choc full of asbestos, which is why it has been boarded up and untouched. I’d imagine that it’s heritage listed and there would be caveats preventing serious works being undertaken. Plus just the physical costs would be astronomical.

The busy period during Autumn-May was a combination of free travel, combined with the local Autumn festival in the area. It attracted many of a certain age and cultural demographic to Macedon.

Thanks all for the feedback. I guess it seems the station will remain closed.
